This brings back so many memories. This moment was my wake call. While I knew from documentaries what would happen in recruit training, I became mentally relaxed while in receiving and one can never fully prepare for the experiences that await them in recruit training.

This is a serious question. After they've turned these people into robots, when does the independent, critical thinking start? What if there is a combat situation and there is no one in authority to tell these guys what to do? How do they make decisions? @pmarie2003 The serious answer to that is every Marine above the rank of private is taught to be a leader and every Marine is and independent machine of war that follows the orders of his/her superior, however, people think Marines are stupid and have no common sense because they willingly throw themselves at a gun nest or emplacement when the fact of the matter is, it is because that is the order and they will follow it to the letter. Marines are autonomous free thinking weapons.

@pmarie2003 The next guy in line in the chain of command immediately excepts his role as the person in charge and continues on with the mission, there may be a moment of confusion but rest assured it will get quickly resolved and they will continue to kick ass. My Senior seemed a lot more laid back in the beginning than this guy. I remember thinking man we lucked out, this guy is cool as hell. Then one day someone stole my web belt and I got caught on the obstacle course without it on. He told me I embarrased him and the whole platoon, and that he and the other DIs would make me suffer for it until they either killed me or I quit. In hitting skills he put me up against a former boxer and told him he got a phone call home if he knocked me out lol.

Yes, sometimes people will freeze, they will get confused, but the more they're prepared and trained on thier personal duties and responsibilities and how to deal with operating under severe stress, the easier it is to kick it into gear and drive on.

I remember seeing the same performance on Parris Island in '86. My recruiter and my DI's did not give the respect they so much expected of us. They were not honorable and did some foul and evil shit to my platoon. One of the DI's even got in big trouble and brought up on charges for being too abusive. I was so happy to get away from those maniacs. The best thing was fellow recruits going through great lengths to help each other survive. I miss those guys.

This video's scenario happens when the recruits are taken from receiving (3 days on arrival, IIRC) and "dropped" to their actual DI's that will take them for the next 3 months for training to become US Marines. This is the intro, so to say. It briefs the recruits what's going on, who's in charge of their training for the next 3 months for them. But I guarantee you, hell followed this "intro" since it sets the pace for the remainder. 17 years in the Corps, and I still shudder about that day.
Those who complain about the methods that the recruits are trained by, had better take this into account. It was much different during Vietnam, and is still different in other countries. STOP FUCKING COMPLAINING!!!! They make Marines. It is the JOB. I am a civilian from a Military Family, and all of these family members don't complain and never have. I do know what I am talking about because I have many friends who serve. I was disqualified without second chance (Very High Functioning Autism).

@pmarie2003 The serious answer to that is every Marine above the rank of private is taught to be a leader and every Marine is and independent machine of war that follows the orders of his/her superior, however, people think Marines are stupid and have no common sense because they willingly throw themselves at a gun nest or emplacement when the fact of the matter is, it is because that is the order and they will follow it to the letter. Marines are autonomous free thinking weapons.

@pmarie2003 The next guy in line in the chain of command immediately excepts his role as the person in charge and continues on with the mission, there may be a moment of confusion but rest assured it will get quickly resolved and they will continue to kick ass. This video shows a point in their lives where they are making the transition from civillian to Marine and when they are complete with that training they will know what to do. Any other questions?

I also know they have to deal with new people that have never done anything more challenging than wake up after sunrise to the sound of their mommie's voice. My Senior seemed a lot more laid back in the beginning than this guy. I remember thinking man we lucked out, this guy is cool as hell. Then one day someone stole my web belt and I got caught on the obstacle course without it on. He told me I embarrased him and the whole platoon, and that he and the other DIs would make me suffer for it until they either killed me or I quit. In hitting skills he put me up against a former boxer and told him he got a phone call home if he knocked me out lol.

I remember seeing the same performance on Parris Island in '86. My recruiter and my DI's did not give the respect they so much expected of us. They were not honorable and did some foul and evil shit to my platoon. One of the DI's even got in big trouble and brought up on charges for being too abusive. I was so happy to get away from those maniacs. The best thing was fellow recruits going through great lengths to help each other survive. I miss those guys.

This video's scenario happens when the recruits are taken from receiving (3 days on arrival, IIRC) and "dropped" to their actual DI's that will take them for the next 3 months for training to become US Marines. This is the intro, so to say. It briefs the recruits what's going on, who's in charge of their training for the next 3 months for them. But I guarantee you, hell followed this "intro" since it sets the pace for the remainder. 17 years in the Corps, and I still shudder about that day.

Those who complain about the methods that the recruits are trained by, had better take this into account. It was much different during Vietnam, and is still different in other countries. STOP FUCKING COMPLAINING!!!! They make Marines. It is the JOB. I am a civilian from a Military Family, and all of these family members don't complain and never have. I do know what I am talking about because I have many friends who serve. I was disqualified without second chance (Very High Functioning Autism).
