actually I am... but in that, they have some structure. weird structure, yes, but if you have complete randomness, that's no good. The idea behind structure is that there are certain parts to music, like body parts. You don't see The Mars Volta starting with the bridge in songs for instance (if they did, I wouldn't be completely shocked, they're crazy, but good lol) . Doing different structures other than the typical Verse, Chorus, Verse, Chorus, is good though.

well, weird structure might as well be no structure then as long as they can keep progressing... because I really don't think its what matters, you can have a typical pop format song structure and still have some pretty original material on your hands. It does eventually get boring that way though.

but I still think a lot of omar's stuff does seem to completely ignore structure or at least put it on the back burner, TSOAF is also pretty similar to that.

Circa Survive has always had structure in their music.

The melodies would repeat, lyrics as well. That's structure.

If there is no structure, they wouldn't be able to play the songs the same way live at all. You have to have structure and know where you're going, especially in a live performance, otherwise you look very unprofessional.

i love their new stuff. i know you can't make the same kind of sound for multiple cds, but i personally think they touched the different sides of their music the perfect amount on their earlier albums. all of it is so tasteful and unique and charming in their own ways. any more of the sounds they made specifically for certain cds would be unnecessary.
