John, this is so priceless for me. I was completely uneducated about pottery when I moved to Kernersville, NC in the earlly 70's and discovered the Penland artists at the annual festival in Winston-Salem. I think Cynthia was the one who did the dragon motif so beautifully back then. My family and friends were out of luck if they didn't like art pottery at Christmas! Oh, how I wish I could turn back the clock to those days!

Nice technique. I've done that with a ball of clay being dropped in, but not a dish. A dish sounds better.
