  • Were these crash boxes?

  • Highland Omnibuses had some ex Eastern Scottish AEC Reliances with gearboxes that sang like these, absolutely superb!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • What a fantastic sound the manual gearbox Regent 5 made rember going on a Regent 5 in Ipswich in about 1975/1976 and being dissapointed at the sound as it was a semi-automatic gearbox one, sounded like a Swift (still a god sound) but nothing like I thought I was going to hear, the East Kent Regent 5s always sounded good but the best of them are the PFN 843-882 Batch known as Puffins it must be the full fronts let that bit more noise in to the passenger Saloon LOVELY SOUNDS

  • wow, that fantastic gearbox(?) sound reminds me of singledeck reliances

I used to travel to school on

  • These were dreadful buses and far inferior to the trolleybuses they were bought to replace. This batch came in at about the same time that the trolleybuses ended between Bolton and Bankfoot- 1964. They were slightly better than the earlier batches but few of us were sad to see them go. The Leylands and especially the Daimlers were a cut above. I would have swapped them all to see a trolleybus travelling up Church Bank again.

  • i like the sound of the engine, the EAST KENT AEC REGENTS had the same nice sound , GREAT

  • Used to repair these at Thornbury Depot back in the 70's. Happy days!
