  • Congrats on the new bike. It is a great bike and I'll always remember it.

  • Hello from Australia, Thanks for sharing, just bought mine, and am so delighted with the bike.

  • you can buy these bikes used for $3,000. Thats how much mine was, I bought a used 1998 last summer. the thing still looks brand new and is in prefect shape. Fantastic bike, great beginner or intermediate bike. Long rides I found my knees hurting from being in a bent postion (I'm 5'10) and I haven't taken it on the highway. My bike can only do around 120km/h and it was screaming! If you are from Ontario there are a few dealers in the Toronto area selling some 2001-2004 for around 3-5k.

  • Wind shields are nice as long as you don't hit anything,,,,your face is history in a crash.....LOL

  • nice bike,I have one vstar custom 650 2006 great bike

  • How much do these bikes typically cost used?

  • @mathiasparks Yamaha doesn't show the vstar 650 on the site anymore. But you can buy used for about 4-5K.

  • nice bike. sounds like you are riding a bunch,, good!..

  • nice video,I just got my 650 and love it thanks for posting

  • Congrats. The 650 is a great bike and I hope you enjoy it as much as I enjoyed mine -- it's a very confidence inspiring bike being nice and low and nimble.

  • i think u forgot to mention the side mirrors...they look more like after market. But wutever...awesome bike.

  • I think you're right. I'm not sure what brand of aftermarket mirrors they are. I also put the fisheye circles on them to eliminate blindspots; got them at Walgreens for $2.99 US. Thanks for the comment

  • Thanks for the information about the v star, I've just received and fitted a riders back rest for my dragstar custom, what a difference it makes. thanks again

  • Nice, i have the same. i hate the sheild, i feel like it ruins the the look of the bike. i sold mine as soon as i got the bike.

  • Yea, sometimes I remove the shield for looks but I take one ride and then I put it back on -- too much wind in the cold. For Summer, it's not too bad; I also have a smaller shield I like to fit when it's hot out; with that shield at certain angles, you can't even tell there's a shield :-). Thanks for the comment.

  • Nice ride mate. I'm from Australia, I bought myself an 06 model custom. I like the small mods that you've done. Nice and tasteful.

  • Nice Jop.. great bike I have a 2007 raven black v star 650 custom I love It it's great.. thank for all the info.

  • Thanks for the comment; '07 650 must be nice. I got mine used but it was well taken care of.

  • Thank you for taking the time to make these vids. I visited the dealer today and loved this bike.

  • Thanks so much for these vids! My wife appreciated the info.

  • No problem. I find walk throughs from normal (no professional reviewers) are best. Glad it helped. Thanks for the comment.

  • Thank you so much for this vid. In just a few minutes I learned much more then I have from the manual or the dealer. I especially wanna thank you for the info on the headlight. I thought I was doomed to ride very slowly at night because of it. Now I know exactly what to do about it.

  • Your welcome. That headlight angle was terrible and I had to "figure out" how to change it -- glad to help.

  • thanks,I had no clue where the oil filter was.Oh hay,...by the way the slip joint coller on the drive shaft had no grease on it and it chewed my pinion off! They say the manufacture didnt grease it from the factory. So if you have a wherrring sound from the back end,..your pinion and shaft have allready sustained damage. There is a bulliten on this, so please ckeck it!!You must take the wheel assembly right out as this is the only way to grease it.

  • Thanks for the info (I'm not worried about this since I moved to a 1300). Thanks for the command and info

  • I know you posted this 3 months ago, but what the hey... I wish I had read this when I bought my 650 in June. My bike is now laid up because the collar chewed the post off the final drive assembly, which you have to buy as an assembly. I will be greasing the heck out of it when I get a new one to replace it.

  • Very nice! Funds permitting, you should check out Formotion's handlebar clamp gauges. They are an inch in diameter, making them easier to read, even when riding, and the clock is electrically backlit. The set of two (with chrome P- and C-mounts) is a nice way to defray depreciation of the bike as by milage and age.

  • Thanks for the comment. Formotion has some nice stuff and I'd really love a good and accurate thermometer -- but at $50 plus shipping, it's hard to justify. The cheap thermometer I have now reads 5-8 degrees high most of the time. As far as defraying depreciation, if I traded the bike, I'd be taking my Formotion gauges with me to the next bike -- I'm guessing good Formotion gauges won't depreciate much just as long as they still work.

  • Nice clip, sure can tell that you love your ride man.

  • Is there any noticeable reduction in speed with the windscreen on?

  • I'm guessing due to more drag, there is more power required to maintain speed, however, I have not noticed it. The V Star has plenty of power to compensate. With the smaller windscreen, there was so much noise, you feel like you're going faster when you're not. I did notice that with the windshield 2" higher (which is where I originally had it), there is significantly more drag (i.e., sail effect) which is very noticeable at 65mph plus.
