All movie cars in the 70s had magic transmissions. They would switch from manual to automatic depending on what the driver needed at a particular moment. Also, you couldn't have the magic transmission option if you wanted air conditioning. Notice all the driving with the windows down even though it's high summer. In the South!
I've noticed that too. There were LOTS of continuity issues with the transmissions as well as vehicular damage. Case in point, magically healing fenders or reappearing doors.
I forget; are the feds taking Gator to the slammer at the end for killing the subject of their corruption investigation before they could convict him? Obviously, the way he's standing there watching the Sheriff's funeral procession, no one in town seems to know he foxed the crooked Sheriff into killing himself.
That's why friends should always let friends drive a Fords 'cause even a monsterous 70s LTD got good gas milage back in them days... I've estimated that chase pursiut with Sheriff Connor last about 45 minutes at the most; at an average of 14 MPG from a thirsty 429 Ford motor, THAT'S PRETTY ECONOMICAL PERFORMANCE!!!
@grumpypant That's the first time the words fuel economy and Ford V8 ever appeared in the same sentence. My dad had a '71 Ford Custom 500 for his company car, which had a 400 2bbl V8 and it got 10 mpg, which pissed him off, because his Plymouth wagons with the same sized engine could always do 15-16 mpg. A Ford 429 couldn't get 14 mpg if you drove it downhill with a tailwind.
i seen one in my life time close to burt car if not as fast a 72 lltd 2 door hard top with a 351 cleveland in it but the shifter was on the steering wheel and it was very very fast my cuz owned it
@nybites Unobtainable... You had to pull strings or build your own. They never sold them that way. Sort of like Cammer's in Galaxies.. Supposedly a few were made for VIP types like Astronauts etc but never were normal production.
what are the specs on this now famous 72 ltd anyone know? im thinkin 429 /big holley 4bbl and a 4-speed loved this movie when i seen i 35 yrs ago never seen a 72 ltd w/a 4speed but anythings possible i want one just like it yeah...!!!
nothing magically about it burt had doubles all threw the movie and save the org ltd for the most popular scenes ,had one ltd with the stick in the floor as you know and the rest was low speed ltd with the shifter on the steering wheel
Scottmanduzy, if your going to advocate against people's Second Amendment rights, then you have no business watching "shoot 'em up" shows, hypocrite. Why not go back an finish high school instead of crying on the Internet?
@RadarGuidedVermin I see you are still ranting here vermin dude. If more guns made people safe, America would be the safest country in the world. Guns don't kill people, vermin morons with guns kill people.
@scottmanduzy "Guns don't kill people, morons with guns kill people" That's right. That's why guns should be taken away from criminals and idiots like you.

It was a 429 Boss motor, 4 speed, rare for a 1971 LTD. Saw this as a teenager, loved the 70's car chase movies.

I love this scene. Thanks for the vid. As for the tire screeching on dirt, Hawaii 5-0 did that a lot too. Pretty funny!
