I amazed by the slow pace of the teaching. Just because they can´t read does not make them stupid. Listen for the second answer. The boy in the middle is clearly frustrated by the question. The answer is obvious and it doesn´t make him read does it. He shows no motivation and how can he, when the teacher is hiding behind a book? - The teacher is distant. Learning how to read should be made fun through games.
These kind of lessons are scripted. It's all part of a systematic and direct instruction model that guides struggling readers in a logical, concise and practical way. Thus, it is very important to stick to the book.
The teacher in this video doesn't have mastery of her lesson. It is not good that you are holding a book and worst if you are just reading the whole thing you are discussing. Is this the SRA reading?
wtf?

"Reading Mastery"? But nobody's reading but the teacher. It just seems so bizarre to me.
