Oh how I wish I had been at this race. I was 7 years old at the time. Back when Dale was still racing. For some reason, it just doesn't seem as exciting as it was back then..
I miss these cars. The CoT is so ugly. I'm glad they got rid of the wing, but the rear end still looks boxy. So many straight lines on the back of the car, it's crazy, not to mention the fact that they added side spoilers and made the rear spoiler extra wide for more downforce. But the least they could do is get rid of the splitter, or what I like to call the lawn mower - all it's good for is pulling up grass from the infield.
@chuckshewie They could keep the safety features like the foam padding and whatnot, if only they would remove the splitter. That's my biggest gripe with the newer cars.
I was there for this race and the one sr. flipped around in 96. We were in the allisonmotorhome on the backstretch camped out from wed. thru monday. What a great experience it was for me and my dad. I've taken the fam every year after that thru 06. Hope to go back this fall. If you haven't been to dega in person, its a must see no matter what you think of the rules. Its awesome.
Dale Earnhardt was like the last of the 1980ers, he had connections with people like Geoff Bodine and Tim Richmond. And boy, this video kinda gives me chills just thinking this man who roughhoused his way around the 1980s, and knew these drivers, was basically the last connection to them. RIP Dale we'll miss you.
