I'm a musician too, and I don't blame him for using falsetto, it hurts his voice, but whats the point? Beethoven got deaf for listening to music and another congenital facts. Falsetto isn't natural, so? Electric guitars aren't natural, should we burn 'em all? The human voice is an instrument we can use it in any way as long it's for music's sake. I agree that he's somehow commercial, which is a bad thing, however, is 10 times worse to ignore his talent just because he's well known.

@emanuelnd ....how is falsetto not natural? if it was not natural, it wouldn't be possible. women, for example, don't have falsetto. so they don't use it, because it's not natural (or even possible). and he's not hurting his voice either, he knows what he's doing and uses the proper technique to support this style. if he didn't, he wouldn't be able to do it.

i can understand that you don't like his style, but that doesn't mean that he's doing anything wrong, you just don't like it. it's cool

OK, but I don't think the definitions are very clear-cut - countertenors are just men who sound best in their falsetto range. A "countertenor" is still going to have a tenor or baritone range as well, even if it's not very good. Whether or not Vitas is more of a tenor or countertenor by that definition is arguable. But also he sings in a quite light pop kind of style (and as you say, without vibrato) not a more rounded classical style, that's why he sounds different IMO

And i have just started to learn opera 1 year ago and ive learned that it is usually very hard to sing like that especially for a male.

Tons of the boys in my opera school loose there vioces by trying to sing like that and its not like regular singing....it takes MANYMANY years to learn that so be greatful and be kind to Vitas cause i bet you cant even do those things.

@kingdomabel okay, well, most countertenors are usually bass, baritone, or sometimes, but not often tenors, however, falsetto is the same thing as countertenor bud, do some research, that is if you have not already of course. it's really interesting! Also listen to Fernando Lima, he's amazing! I think you'll like him, David Daniels is also a great countertenor.

Tenor just means a high-voiced man singing in the speaking voice resonance, and a countertenor is any man singing in a strong falsetto voice, which is what Vitas does when he goes high. No physically normal man goes that high or sounds like that if he is not using falsetto.
