I love tool. I just turned 31 and ive seen every band ive ever liked live at least once except tool. Ive missed 4 shows now for various reasons. I was lucky enough to see APC, but to see tool live before I die is my ultimate wish.
@SoulfulSamurai "keep criminals out of jail"... Imagine if there were hundreds of thousands of criminals on the streets right now and not incarcerated.. Fucking idiot clearly you dont know how to run a country
Just saw them last night in Reno. BAD ASS! They didn't play Eulogy, but did play 5 songs from Aenima. I highly recommend seeing them, though my ears are still ringing.
I love Tool but some fans are honestly irritating. I don't want to hear you spewing anti-religious philosiphical BS in the comments section, Tool are not God, they are not Jesus, they are just a very good rock band and the musicians are top-notch, not some kind of alien lizard demigods from Mars.
@perrottafamily1 wow. Alien lizard demigods from Mars... Ever read the Martian Tales Trilogy by Edgar Rice Burroughs, the guy that wrote Tarzan? LOL...
@perrottafamily1 Seems like you should meet the band themselves, or fans who really understand where Tool is going. Sure they're not god, but nor are they enemies of humanity. They're gift givers, and heart breakers, they're hilarious and yet serious. The ones who claim they are gods are just being Tools themselves.
Choose your theory...but I keep hearing it was about Hubbard from some, then I hear its about Bill Hicks. If you follow lyrics like "standing above a crowd, he had a voice that was strong and loud", "ranting and pointing his finger at everything but his heart", "Sure could yell/took a stand on every little thing"--etc. Not to mention the big clue that I don't see Hubbard in the liner of the album. I see a painting of Bill Hicks in there with the tagline "Another dead hero." Need more hints!?
@mollyaroura Danny Carey mentioned something about L. Ron Hubbard, founder of Scientology. But I think it's deliberately vague to leave it open to interpretation.
@mollyaroura Its about the false martyrs throughout history, "they had alot to say, they had alot of nothing to say." Invading countries in the name of God but really its an excuse. At the end "Will you die for me? Dont you fucking lie." Is where hes telling that they won't die for anyone. Only a true martyr would die for you. But that's only a minor out look of this song, I still have yet to figure out the rest.
@13scoob13 I know this sounds vengeful. However I just want the person who said that this song was not about Bill Hicks, while I had just said it was. O_O REALLY?? DA!!

No one will ever discover Tool and the message in their message unless they are truly ready to wake up and experience things in a whole new world. Tool is not a little happy meal that you can go get to satisfy a hunger urge, because happy meals dont last shit your hungry again in two hours but with Tool you get a full course meal from a nice resturant that in return will be an experience that you will never forget and hopefully embrace in your endeavours as a human being like I have and many

@TheLoopLight I highly doubt this song is for Bill Hicks as the lyrics show this song is quite insulting. Even Danny stated its about L Ron Hubbard. Lets just all enjoy the song and not argue for once?
While it may have been written with specific people in mind, I don't believe it's possible to assume this is about anyone in particular. If it was meant to be about L Ron Hubbard, there would be some sort of identifier within the song to indicate it. Stop trying to specify who it is - look at the arch-type described: the failed martyr, the false prophet. Trying to say "this is about X" limits the song's impact and cripples it with a contemporary stain.
@sofkt The whole jesus theme is a metaphor. "Not all martyrs see divinity, but at least you tried" Just think of any phony cult leader, and the song makes sense

I still remember the day I found this CD face up in a snowy tire track_ no case just a gleaming disc. Listened to it for the first time. Like a gift from heaven & it was flawless.
@grimbattalion wow, great experience. no sarcasm, really. : o to find one of the greatest albums on the snow, deserted... maybe somebody wanted to pass on this masterpiece? wow. it makes me wonder.
Tool fans don't generally try to "spread the gospel of Tool" because its hypocritical. Most Tool fans have even given up on playing Tool music for other people, because Tool is really something you have to discover on your own in order to like it.
you have no idea how true that is.. and not just with tool but with everything.. all these confused emotion stirring revolutions. people can't change because you tell them to, they have to educate themselves. you say you've got a revolutions well you know, we'd all love to see the plan.
@SpunkySkunk347 I agree that you have to discover it on your own, but I feel like that's true with any profound art. However someone can introduce you to it by saying "Hey, you should check out this band" and leave it at that. I do that with Tool, Bill Hicks, Terence McKenna, etc. These are boundary-pushing artists and it may not be everyones cup of tea. But I like to at least make them known and open up someone to the opportunity of discovering what I have.
@SpunkySkunk347 yes indeed. sometimes people ask me what my fav band is and im like "Tool" and theyre all like MAN THEY FUCKIN SUCK, or "THEIR SONGS ARE TOO LONG"... but fuck them. i discovered tool when i was about 12. 17 now, really wish they would come out with another album similar to Aenima or Lateralus
@mayhem1029 I'm 16 and I've only really just "discovered" Tool in past couple of months. I mean, I knew of them and I liked a couple of songs such as Parabola and The Patient but I was part of the minority that thought their songs has too much length. Then one day, I locked myself in my bedroom, turned the lights off and listened to Pushit (the Salival version) and that was, what I consider, to be my first REAL "Tool experience". Now Eulogy is my favourite song - Parabola second.
@SpunkySkunk347 That's true. I heard it on the radio and thought to myself, "This man's voice is beautiful, and these instruments are being played by talented musicians. And I'm liking it, a lot." I never knew who the band was until I finally whipped out my phone and used a song ID app on it. I am forever thankful for that app. Nobody showed me Tool, I found it.
@SpunkySkunk347 Good point. A guy I knew listened to Tool when I was around. But I wouldn't say he introduced me to them as in we didn't have a conversation about the merits of the band. Honestly at first I ddin't know what to think then I gradually started listening to them and I liked what I heard. After that I discovered A Perfect Circle and the rest is history.
@SpunkySkunk347 lol Yeah man, I play Tool for people at parties thinking they'll totally dig it [Why not right? It's fucking TOOL]. And all they have to say is.. "This isn't in 4/4..."
@TheLoopLight lateralus changed my life! i started reaching out like the song suggested and im a much happier person because of it. that song started a chain reaction that lead to me becoming independent from my parents (@age 20), getting a great job at a hospital, and going to school at a large university for 2 degrees. feels good, bro.
@oreokitty116 Tool is my second favorite band behind Pink Floyd and I have to be honest. Most of Opiate is shit and Undertow isn't real good. They didn't really get good this album. I think Justin Chancellor was the missing piece. Reminds me of Pink Floyd didn't really take off until they picked up Gilmour.
@oreokitty116 Tool is my second favorite band behind Pink Floyd and I have to be honest. Most of Opiate is shit and Undertow isn't real good. They didn't really get good unti this album. I think Justin Chancellor was the missing piece. Reminds me of Pink Floyd didn't really take off until they picked up Gilmour.
Opeth never replaced metallica as good as they consistently are, Tool were the true successors If anyone, matter of fact Tool hold thier own special place I take that back cuz that would be an Insult to Tool as good as they were here. Maynard is till a better lead singer than both of the other bands lead singers.. probably the most versital passionate perfect voice in rock music since kurt kobain.. the kind of voice where they could both sing just about anything and it sounds good CUZ OF THEM!
This album was the "Master of Puppets" of the 90's(and in the top 10 albums of the 90's). you're lying If you say otherwise, It's rare you get a front to back classic. ZERO FILLER, groundbreaking alt metal even at a time when EVERYTHING was alternative in 1996 It was still the grunge era-near end, and they still pushed the envolop even further bucking the trend as well as giving metal a kick in the TEETH. THE INTERLUDES alone are more more creative than actual songs on most albums today.

I still remember the day I found this CD face up in a snowy tire track_ no case just a gleaming disc. Listened to it for the first time. Like a gift from heaven & it was flawless.

Tool fans don't generally try to "spread the gospel of Tool" because its hypocritical. Most Tool fans have even given up on playing Tool music for other people, because Tool is really something you have to discover on your own in order to like it.
SpunkySkunk347 5 months ago 84
you have no idea how true that is.. and not just with tool but with everything.. all these confused emotion stirring revolutions. people can't change because you tell them to, they have to educate themselves. you say you've got a revolutions well you know, we'd all love to see the plan.

@SpunkySkunk347 If your shit is good enough, people will find it on their own..

@SpunkySkunk347 That's not true, i was given a Tool cd and never looked back.
ItsNotColdEnough 3 months ago 2
@SpunkySkunk347 I agree that you have to discover it on your own, but I feel like that's true with any profound art. However someone can introduce you to it by saying "Hey, you should check out this band" and leave it at that. I do that with Tool, Bill Hicks, Terence McKenna, etc. These are boundary-pushing artists and it may not be everyones cup of tea. But I like to at least make them known and open up someone to the opportunity of discovering what I have.

@SpunkySkunk347 yes indeed. sometimes people ask me what my fav band is and im like "Tool" and theyre all like MAN THEY FUCKIN SUCK, or "THEIR SONGS ARE TOO LONG"... but fuck them. i discovered tool when i was about 12. 17 now, really wish they would come out with another album similar to Aenima or Lateralus
mayhem1029 3 months ago 2
