  • @svtkilr- My boat is out of commission for a little while. Once I take care of everything I will be back out on the water doing guided fishing trips. Still might be a couple months. Keep an eye out on my website, I will be sure to let everyone know when things are up and running.

  • its almost time!!!

  • OMFG!!!! My hair stood up and I got the chills starting @ 2:33...this kinda footage make me want to hook up the boat alone and go out for 24 hrs straight!!! lol...what a great video, thanks for posting!!

  • unplugged... you dont need anything but a direct tie to your bait.. punkers are ok baits... expensive for stripers tho.. pencil poppers with gamagatsu 4x hooks and a spook is all you need,,, if they miss... throw a swim bait back at them .. !!

  • Show us how to walk the Lunker punker, been looking and cant find the right way to walk the punker

  • What knot do you use for the lunker punker or how do you rig it? Thanks.

  • @Methos713 I use a uni knot when using 65lb braid, and a rapala knot when using 20-25 lb mono

  • @russnyder - Do you use shock leaders with the 65lb braid? If so how long is it? Thx

  • cool video man! i've been fishing for over a year now and i've only caught 1 bass from the san diego river and nothing else.. i seriously suck. i bought a pole for catfish instead of bass cause i did't know anything about fishing..

anyways, i recently ordered the 8" lunker punker bluegill to go fishing next saturday on the shore in otay lakes. hopefully i catch something huge.

i'll be using a calypso rod and reel with 50lb spiderwire braided line. wish me luck!

p.s nice stuff man! keep it up.

  • is the injected lunker punker as good as the wood?

  • I use the wood Lunker Punker about 75% of the time. Because it's heavier, it seems to have a longer glide when walking the bait from side to side. When there is a little chop from the wind, or the water is a bit stained, I will use the injected Punker with rattles. Both work well, it just depends on the conditions.

  • how much does the lunker punker cost?

(did you order it online or buy from the store?)

  • $19.99 for the injected plastic Lunker Punker and $49.99 for the original wood one. If you go to the videos page on my website, you will find links to buy which ever one you want.

  • do you use any trout swimbaits? if so what brand and what pound test do you like to use when throwing lunker punkers and other larger swimbaits

  • Lunker Punkers, Wakebait Jr.'s, and AC Minnows I will throw on 65lb Cajun braid. Opsreys, Mission Fish, and Huddlestons I will throw on 20-25lb Cajun fluorocarbon.

  • great videos i love watching your technique and the baits you use. I may change up my style a little bit

  • Hey Rus,

In December when the water cools down alot, should I fish towards the lower end of the river or upper part near a dam? Also, would the fish be in deeper water(like 50+feet), or would they be alittle shallower?

    Thanks in advance,

    Chang

  • Recently the south part of the Delta, around Discovery Bay has been slow. Up north above Rio Vista as well as the Stockton area have been much better this past month. Typically in winter, deep techniques like spooning, and bait fishing produce better results. I don't think you necessarily need to go as deep as 50 feet, but I'm sure there are still fish down there. There are some shallow fish in winter as well. Though most stripers will stay deep, the shallow fish are more active.

  • Rus is right about anything on topwater is good because it's fun to see them jump out of the water to attack your lure.keep those vids comin

  • russ killer video keep em coming!!!

  • not sure there is anything better than a striper blow up on a spook/punker/pencil...

    Great quality on the vids.

    Please feed the addiction

  • Thanks for the response. I've been using the Zara Spook (baby bass pattern) and it is very productive for largemouth, but the action is nothing compare to the Lunker Punker that you're using. I'm planning to buy the plastic ones, just because they have a larger variety of patterns. Which pattern do you recommend for both bass and striper fishing? Or do you think it'll be better to get two for both kind of fish. Oh, I also fish the delta. Thanks again.

  • If you were to chose one, get the Black Dog Shad Lunker Punker. It has a little bit of chartreuse and works great for both stripers and largemouth. My favorite for bass would be the Bluegill, especially in the summer, and for stripers, an all solid white one can be hard to beat.

  • hey Rus..

What color pattern is the lunker punker at 2:14? It looks awesome. Nice vid by the way.

  • Lunker Punker Jr. in Rainbow Trout, the original wood one, not the new injected plastic. Both work great though

  • Rus is a great guide. Very positive and friendly. He knows a considerable amount about fishing. I learned techniques to catch large mouth bass that are priceless. Nice video Rus, keep up the good work.

  • Thanks for the kind words. I'm glad you had a good time on the trip.

  • 2:42 is badass!!!!!!! topwater is awesome!!

  • whoo hoo im goig to the delta tomarrow...:D hopefully i catch a nice striper

  • dude. im going out in three hours. haha. caught two yesterday in slow water discovery bay, however im pretty sure i know where you're at in the video.

  • I would fish for stripers in tennessee, and largemouth in california.

  • Bad ass video. Thanks for posting it.

  • as i said doesnt matter what coast or where they originate from hes catching smaller fish bcuz its that time of the year for the run.

    im done no more replys

    rus nice fish!

  • Hey what the hell I wasn't talking about the fish in his vid...

  • Dude you dont even know what im talking about

  • the west coast has plenty of big stripers from southern cal to northern cal which i fish constantly..and i can name the places too that are known for big stripers if you want. lets see lake mead, pyramid lake, diamond valley, lake havasu, san luis res., millerten lake. tons of aqueducts in cal. and of course the delta and the ocean. trust me i know what m talking about. cali's record striper is actually from san luis res. some where around 67lbs.

  • Keyword "Originate" not how and where they fucking move.

  • rus, your my all time fav. fisherman since your out here in cali...and also because you post up some wicked videos. One thing I want to ask...how many pounds is your line...and is it braided or mono? Thanks.

  • you guys have to check out this video..type in monster stripers.. now those are some big ass stripers..

  • This is West Coast stripers... They did not originate here thats y they are smaller... Duh..

  • You dont know anything about fish lol.Striper run usually tend to be smaller. The largest fish shows up post-spawn and stay through the fall.Larger fish will invade cooler water to chase spawning bait into estuaries and rivers.Shallow water, on the other hand, will also hold the small early season stripers because it warms more quickly.Because of their range, stripers are found in nearly every type of coastal environment imaginable, but no matter where they are found they'll orient themselves.

  • "Striped bass have been introduced to the Pacific Coast of North America and into many of the large reservoir impoundments across the United States by state game and fish commissions for the purposes of recreational fishing and as a predator to control populations of gizzard shad". Okay are you fucking stupid? trying to be a smart ass you didn't correct shit. You are just trying to look like a smart ass on YouTube the only time you can be...

  • Yeah but their origin resides in the Atlantic Ocean is what I'm saying..

  • please dont argue with me on youtube.. thats the last thing i want to do with my life.but lets rewind for correction shall we.you said "this is west coast stripers... They did not originate here thats y they are smaller... Duh" that has nothing to do with them being smaller here on the west. As i said the runs tend to have smaller fish not bcuz "they didnt originate here" . and as you can see in the vid its december. the run usaully starts in oct-jan in the delta and they are going up river.

  • How is fishing with lures at the delta during the summer months ?

  • For the largemouth it's great. Any type of surface lure works great during the warmer days. Poppers, frogs, zara spooks, and of corse Lunker Punkers. As far as the stripers go, most of the larger ones move through the San Francisco Bay, and out into the ocean during the summer months. They usually show up in the Delta around October.

  • Hey Rus

Nice video! awesome day of fishing we had, definitely gotta do it again. No fish can resist those lunker plunkers!

  • can you give me some tips for fishing on the delta??

  • Here are a couple tips. Get a good map. The Delta is huge, and getting lost can happen quite easily without a good map. My next tip would be to throw topwater lures. Both largemouth and stripers love surface lures at the Delta. Hope this helps.

  • yeah, thank you man

  • Nice vid,

the stripers are just starting to run in Delaware.

Hopefully i'll be catchin em soon

    Good luck :)

  • NiCe Video! did you launch at orwood?????

  • Yup, we launched at orwood and ran south down Old River.

  • Very nice video - great footage and tips on tackle. Gotta love those stripers!

  • 3:23 "i should of retied." classic, i think we all been there, awesome videos!

  • Great footage at 2:38+!........

What kind of camera are you running???

  • JVC HV5

It works great but won't work with a mac

  • Right where we fish too LOL shooooooooooooooooot heh i know where your fishing too -.-

  • Straight slayer!

    Excellent video dude.

  • That fish outa water is the sickest footage ive seen on youtube! nice song too. so whats 22inMotion? i saw it at the end..

  • 22inMotion is friend David's video production company. He is the camera man in this video, and also did all the editing.

  • Rus makes the best bass fishing videos. good work!

  • hey, your in my hole again !! haha, jk, nice vid russ !

  • Awesome video Russ - particularly in HD. Very useful and informative.

  • thanks!

  • Great stuff Rus! When does the fishing pick up again in the Spring for stripers?

  • Usually March is a good month, as long as there are no huge storms to muddy up the water.

  • now I see the one you were talking about !!! thats sweet ! I'm gunna get some Black Dog stuff before we hit the delta in march. carry on

  • Check out the weedslinger. It's a great bait to throw over shallow rock piles, and through the tules for the pre-spawn bass. I had a great time fishing with you last Monday. Feel free to give me a call if your out on the water and need some info.

  • ill be fishing the delta in march! heading back home to the bay from seattle for a vaction =)

  • That's when the big girls come out to play. Bring your swimbaits!

  • Those topwater strikes were VISCIOUS!!! I like the cartwheeling fish. Nice work. Now I need a Punke Jr.

  • You the man rus.

    Check your email.

  • beautiful job on the video, nice fishin

  • Awesome video Rus, definitely the best one so far!!

  • BTW do you think magnum spooks do the job just as good as the LP? Thanks.

  • that was freakin amazing.
