that was an awesome night! my dad was making us leave when we heard the fans start cheering when martinez made that error so we went and watched the rest... it was quite a sight
This was the first time I've actually seen this seat cushion night. As cool as this was, I was at the real seat cushion night in 1987 when Tommy Herr had the walk off grand slam and that is a memory that I will always cherish.
i was at my friends house playing monopoly and her whole family was asleep. as soon as that happened i jumped up and yelled and woke the entire house up haha.
After the Cardinals came back and scored 7 on the Reds in the 9th to win a game, I never quit watching til it's over. This was a great day, thanks for posting. I actually looked this game up and watched it in the off-season, when I had a baseball jones last winter.
This was a ridiculous game... I remember people starting to leave after the Cardinals gave up the lead in late innings. Even I began to walk around the park in frustration. Then I came to a halt at the Casino Queen Party Porch to watch the bottom of the ninth.
After a few misplays, Aaron Miles was on 3rd representing the winning run... everyone was banging seat cushions together(one in each hand) I myself was hitting it against the railing... the sound just echoed through the stadium. Then Eckstein hit a ball to the shortstop and his throw was offline and that was the game! Wow! that was amazing.
this goes to prove that St.Louis is the greatest sports city, im not sure but that crowd looked sold out for the most part, a sold out crowd during their worst losing streaks of the year, and the fans show their appreciation for the cards winning one game by acting like we one the world series by absolutely littering the field with seat cusions. its such a great feeling watching this video. BLUES AND CARDS FOR LIFE
i work @ the stadium in a suite, and when those cushions started flying, it looked like tiles coming down from a ceiling..a little scary, then really cool.
The coolest thing about this night was not that it ended a losing streak. It was that the last time the Cards had seat cushion night was in 1987 when Tommy Herr hit a home run to come from behind and win the game. The fans pelted the field with cushions and the Cardinals didn't do seat cushions again until this game.
So you see, it's the fact that two great Cardinal teams are connected with something as stupid as flying seat cushions that make this game great.
that was so cool especially considering it was because eckstein hit it and if it would have been any other player they probably wouldn't have hustled like he did. and it ended a long, painful losing streak. something i'll always remember even if i wasn't there.
That storm of seat cushions was definately a high light of the 2006 season. I remember watching that on TV and saying the fans were acting like they just won the world series...
Errors are apart of the game. Games are won and lost on these errors all the time. They may not be at the end of the game, but they can still impact the game. As for class, I didn't see anything wrong with throwing my cushion on to the field. For one thing, it was a cheap piece of crap that I would have thrown in the trash. Second, it wasn't like they were thrown during the game. It was a celebration of an exciting come-from-behind victory.
This - of all games - was the game we got to see during our family vacation to St. Louis. It looked like the Cards had blown it, giving up a 2-run lead in the 8th. Then the Indians 2 errors in the bottom of the ninth. Wow. I'm not even much of a baseball fan, but this was incredible - in no small part because of the fans. Our kids - ages 4 and 6 - loved it and really got excited when the cushions rained onto the field.
Eck is awesome! He plays the game with heart and intensity. I love the fans comment, "It feels so go to be a Cardinal's fan. Love those birds on the bat.
I think you got the date wrong, it was Tommy Herr hitting a game ending grand slam

That was the second most awesome game I ever attended. The most awesome one was when Kerry Robinson hit a walk-off home run against the Cubs.

One of my favorite memories from that crazy season. I remember listening to Shannon in the car and screaming, "FINALLY!"

Lucky for us in Saint Louis that it wasn't bat night, ball night or Sears Die-Hard battery night

I'm an Indians fan who was at the game and boy did I feel sick after it was over. Congrats to the Cards.

Not when hundreds to thousands of them are doing it. Im not sure Metro St Louis police could house all of them. That comment is silly
Co Cards! Its killing me in Savannah to watch the Braves.
