Install Ubuntu 9.04 Netbook Remix on USB Drive

Your flash drive may turn to junk pretty quickly (6 months maybe). I would recommend buying a USB hard disk instead of a flash drive, because flash drives are not designed for this sort of load.

@ENCRYPTaBIT i was using Vista at the time and using safari because FireFox wasn't working, it was a new pc i bought but over time i got things to run better so i don't Safari anymore, and Second I like Mac XD i use it for work and now i bought my new mac pro with Boot camp that has Windows 7 lol

Hey this is a great video and I love that music!

In the menu that ubuntu gives you when you first boot it it gives you the option to run it from the usb or to install it on the machine right? How much extra work is it to install it on the computer without overwriting windows or any documents? do i have to do a lot of partitioning before i do it or is it safe just to click install?

@iDiggMGL nope, just reboot and if it don't show up, next time you boot just hit one of the F keys that lets you pick what you want to boot up, like for some Linux CD's don't boot up, go to your boot Menu. (its in the video) in my case, i had to use the boot menu on Dell which was F12

Hey i have a new hp mini laptop and it came with windows... so i want to install ubuntu on it but, i don't know if i should install this "Netbook Remix" or the regular one...

i would be easier for me to install the regular one 'cause i have a burned cd, but i want to be sure. PLEASE REPLY!!! :)

Well, they both are same except for the fact that the NBR comes with a Netbook Remix launcher. This launcher just takes away your start menu and gives you an easy-to-use interface where you are presented with a grid of icons. Also, tabs of running apps appear on the top bar itself instead of utilizing space on the bottombar. In fact, there is no bottom bar at all! This gives you even more free vertical pixels in your apps. Driver support is same in both versions

Its really up to you, which one would I like to use? I've try both and there awesome but I'll stick with Standard Ubuntu but then again, i use the NBR on my old IBM Thinkpad so i can get to work quickly.

Thankyou so very much! You have rescued my Netbook. It failed after a software update (over the net) and having no cd/dvd drive I had no idea how to get it working. Following this video it is up and running a far more powerful system than the one it was shipped with. You have saved me having to buy a new machine (I cannot afford to be without one at the moment and the only solution was going to be replace the dead one). well, you should make sure its format to FAT32. and yes, back-up that flash drive and leave nothing on it, and go ahead and install
