Dweezil Zappa and Eric Johnson in Austin #2, Nov. 19, 2009

Dweezil is so cool. Eric is a fantastic guitarist, but I get the feeling he didn't listen to a lot of Frank. He did a good job, but some of his signature runs were . . . a little out of place. Others though and some some of his improvised chords were pretty cool. Dweezil needs to start writing. He'll never channel his dad in that regard (nor should he), but he's so very good it's time he throw his hat into the ring.

Are you using the built in mic or extrenal mic to record this,? sound quality is excellent. sounds like there is some limiting too.

I love EJ, but doesn't he look awkward at times on stage? Lots of staring at the other guy with no expression, nearly tripping over something, rushing notes, going for feedback on a small combo and not getting it, etc....haha. He's one of my favorite players, but he's always looked slightly uncomfortable on stage.

I agree, Eric seems to be locked in a "mold" nowadays when he's jamming live... maybe it happens as you get older or something. Sometimes he seems to break out of it a bit, but then he goes back to playing the same lines..

@n2motocross Give me a break. Eric Johnson is the most overrated guitar player in history. He is doing anything in this video that any player with a little bit of talent can do. He is totally lost. he isn't even playing his crappy little runs in the right place.

@jjevans2009 There may be faster players out there, and Eric hasn't advanced much since he started, but when he hit the scene, there was NO ONE like him. Overnight he was a guitar legend. You may not like his playing, but he is anything but overrated. he may be the most unique and identifiable POPULAR player out there today. I'm tired of listening to SRV and Van Halen rip offs in the lime light.
