Although Iran is very much politically opposed to western ideals of democracy and secular state, etc, the greatest threat they pose to us as a bloc is the threat of becoming a nuclear power. A hostile nuclear power with their fingers in all of the required pies would be a major obstacle to us geopolitically. In context however it is often used as a nuclear boogeyman. This segment is provably false, not to mention pushing scaremongering repub. politics.
