You know ?Your right @TheNadershah ,but the qanoon like all instruments it was born in the middle east and the other cevelisations before us had taken it as there own after there domination to the middle east (I'm talking about the turks)as well as the persions .Oud Busouk and qanoon are araibyan instruments turks and persions had nothing before that but they did have there own version of qanoon
he is right qanoon is for iranian . it was made by Farabi and it's accord was made by Abdulghadir Maraghi . Those people are iranian . turkish are history thief . they think every thing is turkish . turkish or Ottoman , they don't even how to make a mosque , so they changed church of Hagia Sophia to a mosque .
I recognize the melody so it must be from Arabia and not Iran. Not sure of the Arabic name for this instrument but in the West it is called a Zither which is either the same instrument or closely related to this one. this one is called a Qanoon and is from Ankara, Turkey.
Bravo....
it's not that turkish stole arab culture...arabs migrated to turkey , as well as many other countries as you probably know... therefore taking their culture them... including the qanun.
i dont know you background both of you.but both of you need to read more about the region history ( from different sources-writting history is bais).
it s true that arab migrated to turkey, but after the ottoman empire witch invaded and coloniezed the hall region . the big spread of the empire lead to a fushion and blend between cultures .this intrument is not uniquely arabic nor turkish , it s a blend of different cultures.
Its tuned in quarter notes...quite different..You're used to hearing a note split in half, while this has 4 per note so imagine the difference. That's why it sounds weird..
But it's cool, no? And yeah it's used more in Arabic music than Turkish. but both use it regularly.
