  • This census is supposed to be a head count only taken once every 10 years for the purpose of districts. Anything more than that is a violation of your 4th amendment rights without a warrant. If you choose to answer and they want more info than this, you can ask to be read you Miranda rights, that is "the right to remain silent..."

  • @scottdaddy39

Yes, they could read you your Miranda....if they were arresting you. If they simply asked for more info than what you initially provided, you are completely allowed to deny them such, stating of course, what you have stated as a backing. Fact is, it's like a cop searching your car without a warrant. He can only do it if you agree to it, or if probable cause is present. Other than that, you can't be arrested for saying no to the request.

  • who is the dark haired girl at 0:21 ?

  • Shades of VH1's "I Love the 80s" specials that aired a few years ago. Dry, witty humor as it's finest! They need to take this cast and crew (add Michael Ian Black of course) and boom, you've got a stellar prime time tv comedy. Did you get that Hollis P. Wood producers?

  • how does cheeseit pack so much cheesy taste into each bite?

  • I promise to fill out my stinking form if you will please stop wasting our money airing these retarded commercials.

Also please file fraud waste and abuse charges against whoever thought up these stupid things and who ever had the bright idea to spend millions of our dollars putting this crap on the super bowl.

  • I LOVE THIS COMMERCIALS

    "Right, Yes, Absolutely" lol

  • Dummer than a bag of hammers ! This is comedy - good comedy !

  • @TheZachish - I agree it shouldn't have been put on the sup bown but at the same time, people do need to know about the Census and I'm pretty sure the U.S. Government didn't pay "commercial price" for airing their commercial on the Superbowl. Most of the Superbowl ads cost over $1 million... I guarantee the government didn't pay that much, they never do.

  • "Absolutely"..... Katie Hawbaker is too cute

  • 2.5 million dollars well spent on a commercial that made absolutely no sense.

They could have saved a lot of our tax money and just had a black screen that read "2010Census. gov".

  • tl;dr

who's the brunette in the glasses?

  • Rachel Harris

  • This commercial rocks, the ending was hilarious when I first saw it, it still is funny. I love Ed Begley. It's funny, it's very subtle, but that's what makes it so friggin cool. I can't believe our government had the stones to follow through with a commercial like this. Why don't people like it?

  • Because it is a complete waste of our tax dollars. How would you like if I came and took $5,000 of your money and bought a bunch of paper and burned it. Complete waste of money and resources, just like this commercial. Plus, this wasn't the government's money to waste. Just like it wouldn't be my money to waste.

  • @GrandePadre76 - The Census is important though, for any country, especially here in America where our country keeps getting overrun with illegal immigrants. (Not that the Census will count them but it's still worth a try.) I'm a conservative republican and am against government spending but the Census is pretty important for both conservatives and liberals.

  • @GrandePadre76

How do you know who's money went into these commercials? You cannot claim it was government money anymore than it was your direct tax dollars. Furthermore, this census goes towards allocating money better amongst the populous, as well as making sure the American people are represented proportionally in the senate. Considering that only 77% of people responded last time, and that mailing the forums back actually saves money spent on manpower, the commercials are cost effective.

  • I dont understand how this is a damn commercial. It is just idiots babbbling about crap.

  • Fuckin' morons. what the fuck are they babblin' on about?!

  • Remember morons deserve to be counted too!

  • Yes the ad is funny, but wouldn't a snapshot of America be more diverse. I am Latina, educated, I pay my taxes, and I agree that we need to get the word out so that we have proper funding, that is why we do this. It appears that the demographic they are pursuing is the middle to upper class older Caucasian crowd who are very likely to fill out there census forms! Where are the minorities speaking to us? Hopefully this is rectified in the commercials to come! This is the 2010 census correct?

  • Oops I stand corrected the character Danya claims to be a Brazilian adopted by Amish parents. Really? They had to get a Caucasian actress to play a Latina? Were there no Latina actresses available in Los Angeles to play the role? I find that hard to believe? Kind of reminds me of vaudeville!

  • These are improv actors who are mocking the idea of actually taking a picture of everyone in America. Therefore, they are portraying hollywood types, not trying to represent the people in our country.

  • Yes I realize that, however this should not have been cast like a Christopher Guest movie when it was a topic as important and sensitive as this is especially when the goal of advertising would be to get people to fill it out! Yes it's funny, but when other minorities are not represented, then it doesn't fulfill their intended goal, and don't get me wrong, Best in Show rocks!

  • Our founding fathers instituted the census in part to ensure that our tax money was fairly redistributed back to the people, rather than distributed via the whims of a King. It is a foundation of democracy. I, for one, am happy that the government is getting the word out. The fact that the ads make me laugh is a bonus.

  • are you happy that it cost 160 million dollars of our money?

  • The point of census advertising is to increase awareness of the census. For every 1% of the population that doesn't fill out the form the govt has to spend 80 million for enumerators to find these people and get them to fill it out. In 2000 35% of our population didn't fill it out. If advertising reminds 5% of the 35% who didn't fill it out in 2000 to fill it out we will save money. To those "taking a stand" by not filling it out, tax dollars will be wasted on enumerators finding you.

  • Shame on Ed Begley & the Mighty WInd crew. Begley is for sustainable living - The $2.5 million for 30 seconds could have bought 125,000 WARM COATS FOR COLD CHILDREN. 5,000 Native American kids could have had school breakfast or lunch rather than going hungry. 166,667 kids could have had boots in northern cities this winter. 2,604 elderly poor people could have been given $80 a month for a year to buy food. Hey Ed - SUSTAINABLE LIVING doesn't mean eating at the Federal trough. HYPOCRIT

  • And every day where we weren't in Iraq would save us $200 million!

Think of the coats we could buy!

Jeebuz, it's 2.5 million for a commercial... get over it guys.

  • Minotaur-you are absolutely correct. It has been over 385 days since DAY 1 & the Obama War goes on. BUT your math is way off at $200 million a day the cost would be $73 billion less than what Obama gave Goldman Sachs & the other Democrat Wall Street Network. The $2.5 million is soooooo small that it doesn't matter-Right???? But this morning the Cheyenne Nation still doesn't have heating oil so children & the elderly huddle in trailers & block buildings. PRIORITIES!!! Obamaland Small Change

  • I'm totally for buying heating oil, let's do it now!

Hey, you know what would help us know who needs help like heating oil?

    The census.

  • No, the Census is being used as a political tool by Obama's Organizing for America to gerrymander the Congress. The better way of helping the people is to cut the Federal Government by 50%, reduce taxes and allow states to solve local problems. They are going to count illegal aliens to help reach their Socialist goals. That is why they wanted the Census moved into the White House so they could use Chicago Mafia Politics to re-arrange the data. The point was the waste of $2.5 million dollars.

  • Really?

You and I really have nothing more to discuss then... have fun!

I really hope you feel better about things soon, you are a little confused about what's happening in this nation.

    Especially concerning the census.

    Have a good one.

  • @ElSeedyMinotaur I thought that Coster guy was spot on. I think maybe you work for the census and doing "party" propaganda to earn a buck. The Census use to be really good. The 1920 census which is hand written in many cases asked country of origin. Why can't we know who is living in America. Do non-citizens have the same rights as citizens? They benefit from our taxes and we never get any of that money back for health care, schools or welfare from Mexico or any other Latin nation.

  • Actually no I am a Dr. I and indeed I was born here. The point is equal representation!

  • Of Illegals?????????????????????

  • The census is intended to count ALL the people living in this country.

Citizens or not. Documented or not.

That's what has ALWAYS been intended, yes.

  • But we are NOT allowed to ask the question "Are you a citizen" "Are you an illegal alien" "Are you here on some type of legal status". BUT if the questions are not asked they WILL BE counted to Gerrymander Congressional districts where the Democrats "wink wink nod nod" know the illegals are and so they can use that count to enhance Democrat representation. AND that willl be used to shovel mony into the trough to buy Votes. It is like a Monty Python episode!

  • Uhm, I never said we WERE going to ask that question.

Only that we count ALL the people living here, regardless of their citizenship or immigration status.

P.S. in the Monty Python skit the only one with dirty thoughts or intentions was the questioner... and he turned out to be a virgin, remember?

  • Said like a true bureaucrat or Progressive Socialist! And we count them why - to Gerrymander, allocate monies to ilegals to buy votes and have ACORN and Organizing for America help them vote to further a Sociaist agenda rather than what the Census was intended for. OH NO - THE S E I U IS HHHHEEEErrrreeeee - N O WORSE it is the National Education Association and they are pissed and mean!

  • We count them because an accurate enumeration of all persons living in the United States every ten years is a Constitutional requirement.

    You're wacky.

  • Wacky, but lovable. Thank you. Have a blessed day.

  • Okay, I will... hey, you should take a deep breath and read about what the census is actually for... you'll feel better.

  • is that tina fey?

  • Well, I'm confused...

I was defending the right to ask those kinds of questions from several people.

We count everyone in the census, that's the way its always been, that's what the Framers wanted.

Usually non-citizens do pay tax, documented or not, through payroll and sales taxes.

They also don't really access the Social Security that those payroll taxes provide...

I don't work for the census or Mr. Guest... but if they're reading this, I am entertaining offers

  • @chuckcoster thank you. You saved me time and energy.

  • To all the shortsighted ones complaining about taxpayer dollars and trying to turn this into a political issue:

Are you aware that your tax dollars pay for ALL commercials put out by the government? Are you just going to sit there on youtube and complain about this ONE commercial (out of hundreds if not thousands like it) like a giant lazy hypocrite or write your congressman so that you no longer have to pay for anti-smoking, army commercials and the rest?

    False outrage gets you nowhere.

  • They spent 2 million dollars of taxpayer money on this commercial? No wonder this country is in the crapper.

  • The idea, I would guess, is to help people understand what the census is in a way that makes them want to participate. Yes, a Super Bowl ad is expensive, but so is hiring tens of thousands of field workers to collect information from the people who didn't mail back their forms because they didn't feel like it or think it was necessary.

  • The census yes - $2.5 million for a 30 second ad and $370,000,000 which half will go into pockets other than counting heads. 167,000 children could have had warm boots in northern cities for the cost of this ONE ad. SHAMEFUL, but typical of bureaucracies that use taxpayers money so they can HIGH FIVE each other. AND SHAME on teh Mighty Wind crew for participating.

  • lol i work for the census, they pay big $

  • the census helps the government readjust taxes and grant money, and representatives. last time i checked, discounts, free money, and more representatives in congress was a good thing. protesting the census is the most counter productive a person could do.

  • it's stu's wife! ahaha

  • census = the mexicans kryptonite

  • Hello

  • What positive effect is this supposed to have? The census is a snapshot of America; so what? Why is this so complicated? Idiots

  • Since when do the spend 3 million on one commercial for the friggin census?

  • Sarah Palin comments a movie - Waterworld

    watch?v=x7qRzDUQtA4

  • Horrible! I don't see any point in this! The only thing I took away from it was HUH???

  • Way to piss away taxpayer's monies. Freaking progressives.

  • ANOTHER epic waste of MY tax dollars.

"We WILL waste your money in whatever ways WE choose (and ohhhh, there are sooo many, many ways). Now fork it over ... and SHUT UP, ALL YOU MORONS OUT THERE"

  • Change the Constitution if you don't like the census, asshole. It happens every tens years. Deal with it.

  • what the fk is this ad even for? you spend millions of dollars just to get air time and they don't even clearly mention what the product or service is....genius marketing

  • @blooddrive43 you can't even call it markting cuz its not sellin anything its just... tellin you to fill out your census which is... well a huge waste of money to spend on that during the superbowl so it was kinda like a big fuk you tax payer i just put your money in a superbowl ad for no reason what so ever =)

  • Paying millions for a 30 second ad during a football game is a great way 2 get us out of a 300 trillion dollar debt. Isnt it just so reassuring 2 know we have absolute idiots running our country?

  • Stupid commercial and a huge waste of taxpayers money!

When filling out the census, if you were born in America select "Native American" if you were born here, you are native and it doesn't matter what color your skin is!

    Stop government from segregating us!

  • so happy i pay taxes to this govornment...

  • If the Super Bowl was on Fox, do you think Obama would have paid for this ad?? This ad makes no sense. Obviously they are targeting stupid people, and I seriously doubt they understand the message. I think they forgot to tell whoever was putting this commerical together that they had a 30 second spot. EPIC FAIL

  • i do not support this add or the obama administration but i doubt the president personally approved or asked for this commercial it was probably the census bureau

  • @fenway2424

I don't know if he personally asked for it. I bet he was informed an ad was going to be run. After all Obama changed the policy of the Census Bureau Director from reporting to the Commerce Secretary to now reporting directly to the White House thus politicing it. (This is why Judd Greg resigned as Commerce Secretary) Perhaps the public forgets things too quickly.

  • So glad taxpayer money pays for useless shit like this.....

  • i dont get it

  • im so glad that tax payers money is going to awesome commercials like this other than you know...fixing the economy

    -_-

  • You are not required to give census workers any information other than how many people live in your residence. Don't give them anything else.

    Restore our Republic.

  • Really? Where is that written?

Did you know that the Constitution contains this phrase concerning the census?

"[An] Enumeration shall be made within three Years after the first Meeting of the Congress of the United States, and within every subsequent Term of ten Years, in such Manner as they shall by Law direct."

What exactly do you imagine the words, 'in such Manner as they shall by Law direct.' to mean?

    Thank you.

    Restore our Education system.

  • "[An] Enumeration shall be made within three Years after the first Meeting of the Congress of the United States, and within every subsequent Term of ten Years, in such Manner as they shall by Law direct."

What exactly do you imagine the words, '[An] Enumeration' to mean?

Since each human in the country counts as a single person any other information is (literally) uncalled for.

    you're welcome.

restore latin classes in our public schools.

  • Since 'Enumeration' means a numbered list I think that it means a counting by numbered list of what Congress directs... by law.

    You're welcome.

Again, restore education in our public schools.

  • so, i wonder, what do you feel we need besides a number? and why? i'll offer my opinion that information gathered on race only helps to promote racial inequality in our society through the government by turning all of us into numbers that must be raised or lowered, rather than individual human beings. i have similar feelings torward the gender question. i personally feel that the census should be a head count for the sole purpose of determining the number of representatives and no more.

  • Well, demographics are needed and used for all kinds of things.

And since the first census asked for more data than that and the Constitution says 'in such manner as they shall by Law direct' I don't think the Beck and Libertarian argument that it this is unconstitutional and against the will of the founders holds any water.

    That was my point.

  • Nothing in The Constitution says your cant speed or run red lights so go ahead and do that too, idiot.

  • that was 3 million of taxpayer dolars..obamas doin great to revive the economy

  • Without knowing how many people there are, States might not get enough representatives or get enough funding.

  • AHAAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHHAAHHHAHAHAHAHAHHAHHAAHAHHA!!!!!!!!!!! ROFLCOPTER soo funny i cant breathe!!! HELP HELP HELP!

  • Thats right folks 2.5 million in tax payer money for that ad.

  • مشكوووور

  • Katrina was a man made disaster that I personally went through. Yes, it was man made bc our government couldn't even maintain our levee system even though it stated numerous times that the levee's were safe. I could care less about the Republicans and Democrates... there both equally worthless but just to let you know, Governer Blanco (Democrate) would not allow the federal government to take action. Thus, Katrina was a failure of government within government stupidity.

  • not saying the government is good or anything but im pretty sure that katrina wasn't man made. I think the definition of man made goes along well i unno made by man? u could say that the result or the cause of the damage was man made but u can't say the whole disaster was man made. meanwhile its not like they were saying the levee system was safe for a level 5 storm or anything. well for all i know maybe they did but im just saying they werent expecting a hurricanelike katrina

  • The Rogue Lizard was here check out my videos

  • Well that was $2,500,000.00 of OUR MONEY well spent!

  • I don't know what you guys are talking about. Me and my roommate Percival and everyone else in our studio loft on the lower-east side thought this advertisement was quite drole indeed. The way that woman said "absolutely" nearly made me spit out my '53 bordeau.

  • THIS is what tax dollars was spent to air? Now I know beyond a doubt that our government wastes our money.

  • Only now did you realize this? Were you asleep during the Bush years?

  • This cracks me up.

  • This is absolutely hilarious.

  • ITS THE WITCH FROM THE HANGOVER!

  • 2.5 million of our taxpayer dollars wasted on this crap. Just think how many middle class jobs that could have saved or created. Just like the stimulus was supposed to save us from impending doom the census will help to count all the illegal immigrants living here so they can be illegally represented in congress and districts can have funds illegally appropriated to them. 11/02/10...Day of Reckoning!!

  • Stop breathing for about 10 minutes.

  • What all is being Reckoned? The people. isn't that what the census is doing.

  • Comment removed

  • That better not be my tax money...

  • Crap! this is a stupid commercial and tax dollars paid for it! Part of the "stimulus" package, no doubt :(

  • I don't understand why there would be an advertisement for something we aren't buying. Waste of money.

  • wat the hell was it even about this sucked

  • wasssssssssuuuuupppppppp!!!!!!!!!!!

  • This ad sucks!

  • tax money. spent on this garbage. it's not even a good ad. you would think if they're going to spend millions to run this crap they could make it good. but no they waste our money AND make a crap ad

  • Oh now I know who that lady is! She's the Mellissa (The Bitchy Lady) from The Hangover, she's Stu's (aka Dr. Faggot) girlfriend. It was killing me when I saw this last night, because I couldn't remember what she was off of. lol

  • I want my tax money back! I am outraged that $3 million that could've gone back into our economy was used on this ad that doesn't even have a real call to action!

  • I watched the super bowl while I was at work. I work in a pizza restaurant, and during the business, I only got to see bits and pieces of it all, on top of not hearing any of it, just seeing the score every now and then. When I came home I wanted to see some of the ads, and I came across this one, which lead me to the census website, and I learned more about it. I know what the census is, but I didn't when it was coming. I say, the ad was a success!

  • Also they leave it hanging to get you curious, getting you to see the other videos that they have done; which adds to the explanation of the message.

  • I get it now! Haha! Ok, It's literally saying that the Census is a snapshot of America,( 0:20 ) Notice the table that they are standing by, and notice the plastic models standing on it. It's saying that the Census is a better way than what these people in the video are attempting to do... Which is actually gathering everyone into one place and taking a snapshot.

  • If you're so worried about taxpayer money maybe you should try to do something about the fact that the income/wage/federal aid taxes, among many more, are unconstitutional and people living in the 50 states cannot be liable to pay them.

  • WTF?

  • America's tax dollars at work, everyone.

  • hmm... I didn't get this video that much, still I did laugh at some points just because of how they sarcastically answered each other

  • i don't get it....

  • So not only was it not funny.. but it cost our tax dollars? I would say "Epic Fail", but that doesn't even begin to cover it....

  • wow that was so dumb it made no sense and to top it off we paid for it with our tax dollars! Way to go Obama no wonder your approval ratings are so low. i work every year till April 16 for free just to pay taxes so you can throw it away on this. Obama should be Impeached I'm am so sorry I ever voted for him.

  • I don't get this?!?!?!!?!? what?!??!

  • The commercial is funny. The census is necessary. Stop trying to conjure more complaints about the administration, idiots.

  • people who dont find this as a good commercial are pretty stupid or at least ignorant.

  • Oh my gosh. I JUST got it! Hahahaha

  • Here's the thing, guys, it's IMPORTANT for people to take part in the census. They need to get the word out. But guess what, commercial time ain't free. If it was free they would have let them post this commercial for free.

If you want to blame someone blame the network for charging the airtime. Or ask the network to give the money back.

By the way, ALL commercials have to be paid for. So all those Army ads? We paid for those too. Write your congressman if it suddenly bothers you.

  • did the army play commercials during the super bowl?

  • I want my money back

  • That sucked

  • The Rogue Lizard was here check out my videos

  • Shaky camera, funny looking characters, one boring person staring out, office-like humor... not much of an attractive commercial during the superbowl.

  • wow youre all bunch of idiots if you dont get it

  • Wow some of my hard work earned money are in this commercial and I didn't even get it. All I know is that they spent more than million dollars of tax money for this stupid commercial.

  • I didn't get any of that...

  • Or Snapshot of US Government?!! The efficiency of our govt astounds me.

  • they had to do it guys. relax.

  • Monster waste of tax dollars.

  • Thanks for wasting my tax money.

  • So funny I forgot to laugh.

  • Just think this commercial cost $2.5 million.

    Bend over America!

  • In any event, Christopher Guest is awesome. I love how the comedy is going over everyone's heads.

    Totally subscribed. More mocumentaries, please!

  • The brunette, who is she?

  • @PropellerBusted girl from the hangover, stew's wife lol

  • @Ryan

No, that person has brown hair. I'm talking about the brunette. The girl at the table.

  • The girl with the black hair and bangs in named Sarah Buehler.

  • @mydeardeadly

    Thanks!

  • This would have worked better if they weren't trying to be funny. I thought they were just going to talk about what the census is and why its important, this didn't explain anything they said it would. Hopefully at least people will visit the website if they have questions.

  • 2.5 million dollars of our tax dollars for this!

  • This commercial is destined to be used in marketing classes for years as a bad example and a colossal waste of money. This communicated nothing and generated no interest in the census - or anything. I searched for this on YouTube in case my first impression was wrong - it was not.

  • Is that linetrap?

  • This is so bad it actually make me (not kidding) not want to participate in the census. And all of those Air Force Reserve ads had better been free. Are you kidding me? Seriously? 10 million dollars when we are already over strength? Whatever.

  • freaking ridiculous and waste of taxpayer money!

  • Why s Obama spending $3 Million on a commercial, a bad one? What a waste.

  • That is the chick in the HANGOVER! The horrid lady who is dating Ed Helms character!
