Man! I didn't know that Jerry went back that far! Are there alot of rockabilly tracks? This is a pretty mean tune. Never heard this one, Thanx, Please checkout rockabillygone all one word for rockanilly originals and oddball covers.
Capitol records did a contest to find some "Elvis Presley" and Jerry won. Shorty after they found the great Gene Vincent, but Jerry won the original contest
I like to hear Betsy Baby & Crazy Legs which Gene had a hit with Jerry wrote. This early Rockabilly stuff Jerry had was good but it struggled cause they didn't know how to promote rock n Roll records na dtheir greatest successers were Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin & Ernie Ford.
@bobbyriveraguitar I was wondering b/c it didn't sound like Jerry's style. I bet they didn't let him play it because it because it would have transcended what the label was trying to do with the genre.
Some say he won a Capitol contest in 1956 tryin' to get a new Elvis. But some say too, the producers decide to give this roll to the great Gene Vincent. Anyway I love both. But I think also Jerry Reed's first records were as wild as Gene's ones. He was a wonderful guitar player. If you clik his name and Alabama Jubilee, you would see one of the greatest performances ever. Greetings from Spain.

One of the best Rockabilly songs ever recorded! Jerry Reed was truly one the greatest guitarist of the last century.

Miss you "snowman" ,what a great talent we lost when Jerry Reed passed away. Truly one of my many heroes.

Especially love the jazzy guitar-sound (for extra swing), but the basic set-up of the song is bluesier. Altogether: sweet!

This sounds like the Decca band as used by Roy Hall and Peanuts Wilson etc.
roystonowl1 2 years ago
@roystonowl1 It might be Jerry playing lead himself. He was an ace on the guitar and played lead for others as well.

is that jerry playing the solos
danh807 2 years ago
@danh807
You'd think it would Jerry doing the solos, but I think it's actually Capitol Record's session ace, Grady Martin.

@bobbyriveraguitar heh, I've heard both back to back (vinyl) both albums from the 70's. Grady is better...but not much.
