but cortez had nearly stopped the fight twice before (which is also part of the criticism) so by the time lorenzo went down a second time, it was no longer a question whether or not he could continue, the fight was over at that point. The doctors are there to look out for the well being of the fighters, not to ref. They werent jumping up and down demanding that Soto be DQed. Cortez seemed intent on calling a DQ & they just gave him permission to do so.

We can argue back and forth on and both sides have valid points. The biggest issue for me was Lorenzo's Oscar winning performance on the mat. So much for getting up and "finishing like a man" win or lose, late punch or not. Lorenzo's a coward for "playing dead". The doctor's told Joe that the fighter could not continue due to a concussive blow to the head. It's true that some judges allow their biases to affect the their decisions and they often favor their fellow countrymen, but the outcome of this fight is completely unrelated to judging. We're talking about a high profile fight in which the title is on the line with a KO victory that couldnt be more obvious.
