I wouldn't say that NOT having torque is what makes an S2000 or a Miata handle. In the hands of an inexperienced driver, a car that's already prone to oversteer can be tempermental through the corners if you're not gentle with the throttle. I've seen mustang drivers at the autocross stay glued where an inexperienced miata driver two runs earlier ate cones due to braking too late and putting the power on too early. Mustangs can be fairly quick if you're smooth on the throttle and brake smart.
