  • Doesn't Photoshop CS4 use the GPU now to do processing, that is probably the reason for the dramatic increase.

  • no the GPU is for handling and view the photo but not for editing. Otherwise it would be wort to have SLI or Xfire cards to do the render. But in this case GPU doesn't support SLI . The adventatge is to have 4 cores with 4 shadows so you have 8 core machine. its also way faster from the memory to chip. It's build right on the chip so it's way faster.

  • Adobe installs both 64 and 32 bit version on 64 bit platform automatically because most of the 3rd party plugins don't support 64 bit system but if you run all built in filters cs4 runs 64 bit its so fast  it also allocates even 12 GB or more RAM and can be adjusted even with extra scratch disk on fast velociraptor hdd It's just so worth the upgrade. Unfortunately mac use can take the advantage of the 64 bit PS version yet Hopefully with CS5
