  • MattymattThing shut the Fuck up .........

  • This song honestly got me through some shit.

  • He has one of the best voices I have heard yet. What a tragic ending to a sad and talented life

  • what i'd love to know is how this didn't make the cut for the album? would have made an excellent album even more... well... excellent

  • @SVTristan Contractual conflicts. Two record companies fighting over the same songs. You'd think they could have reached a compromise that would have satisfied everyone and let FABOTH come out as the double album Elliott wanted.

  • amazing amazing amazing

  • thats a very depressing picture

  • there was 1 person so outraged by the beauty of this song, and artist, that the only outlet for them to release there intense feelings of love was to press the dislike button,

  • Perfection at its best :-D

  • This nearly makes me cry...

  • At least half the musicians in the world are miles behind Elliott... even when it comes to his unreleased songs!!!

  • Vamphaery, what Elliott Smith says is "killing sons" leading right into "loneliness turns me blue;" It's his innovative rythym that threw you off. I wanted to clarify that because this song is such an eloquent warning to people about the dangers of addictive drugs by someone who felt caught in the addiction trap(though obviously clean during the period when he wrote this.)

  • MattyMattThing, nobody ever said Elliott was free of errors or mistakes, but who is? so very few, and none of these are the titanically accomplished musician that Elliott was. We honor Elliott because he was a gentle human with a wondrous gift. Incidentally, he died "clean" or "corrected." If he'd been weened very slowly with oral meds, he'd probably be recording right now(opiates are effective if forbidden anti-depressants + anti-psychotics)

  • Genius man.

  • i'm a stick man frames they go one by one

  • He was and will always be the best.

  • @MattyMattThing thats not a very kind comment towards elliott, or anyone who has committed suicide for that matter, i knew someone pretty well who took their own lives, really sweet person you should think twice before saying things like that just suggesting

  • @peacelovemusic2461 I'm sorry that you have eyes

  • @MattyMattThing you dont even make sense im guessing your just one of those insesnsitive people going around on elliott videos insulting him

  • @MattyMattThing

    Shut up.

  • @MattyMattThing An error doesn't become a mistake until you refuse to Correct it. Death is not the worst that can happen to men.

  • this song is something else, man

  • god help me if i ever hear this on mdma. probably will melt into tears for hours

  • Someone used this on him. Probably. Bastards! They'll meet theirs, and Elliott will by right behind that.

  • Someone used this on him. Probably. Bastards!

  • been listening to elliott for 3 years, just discovered this song. Elliott is the best ever

  • i'm a stick man, i live with one dimension dead.

    i love him.

  • what a great last chord/note he strikes at the end

  • I've spent the last 2 weeks listening to this song.. simply beautiful.

  • no wonder no one dislikes it yet

  • Man that droning guitar note is perfect in this song. "Paint my paper red if I load my magazine".......that's hard to hear knowing what that means.

  • @mellowtonen

think he's saying ''hate might paint me red if I load my magazine''

  • Elliott rules

  • fucking brilliant song

  • love this song

  • WOw.... holy fuck. THe lyrics baffle me every time...

  • I have been listening to Elliott Smith songs since i first discovered him about 3 years ago... i consider myself a pretty big fan but it amazes me how i can always come across something i have yet to hear... and every time it just confirms to me this man was a genius... it's a real shame he wasn't as recognized for that as he should be, he was truly one of a kind

  • I wondered if it might be ''Sorry makes me blue, envy turns me green.''

  • Heard this for the first time today. I am so in love.

  • I don't know if i'm correct but i think this song was already recorded during the X/O (Grand Mal) sessions.

  • Okay that makes sense. Thanks!

"If I sped it up, you'd see I'm on the run from some monster off screen, killing sons. Lonely makes me blue."

    Intense lyrics.

  • I have always been able to make out every lyric in this song except what comes between, "some monster off screen" and "makes me blue." It sounds like "Killing sons only," "killing some story," or "killing some still only." People always say it's "loneliness" but I just don't hear that in his singing at all whatsoever at that point. It sounds nothing like loneliness to me.

Does anyone know what he's saying there?

  • "From some monster off screen

    Killing sons

    Lonely makes me blue"

  • @Lifexplosion - Thanks for the song! Much appreciated!

  • I heard it as

    "From some monster off screen

    Que in suns,

    Lonely makes me blue"

going with the stage motif... but prob wrong.

  • That's a beautiful interpretation of the themes inherent in the song, though regardless of whether it's accurate or not, imo.

My problem with hearing the lyric correctly is the "T" sound betwwen "killing sons," and "lonely makes me blue." There's a distinct "T" or "ST" sound, as if it's actually, "Killing sons, STORY makes me blue."

But given that every other line with a color is an emotion (envy green, hate red) it makes sense that blue is lonely I guess.

If only we had the notes.

  • @SeanLawlorNelson just clarifying, this version was recorded when he was clean, but there's an earlier version recorded when he was heavy into his addiction that has those same lines.

  • "loneliness makes me blue, envy turns me green, hate might paint me red if I load my magazine"

who doesnt feel like this sometimes?

  • "they got deleted"...my fault.

  • You rule for uploading and hosting this. Excellent.

  • Elliott Smith is a fucking legend. Beautiful song.

  • brilliant.thank you

  • this nearly made me cry

  • the song "abused" actually DID make me cry.

  • the ending of True Love is intense, its the last vocals he recorded before passing and its singing "Take me up my lord, take me out of this place" Hard to hear that at the end of the song.

  • @mellowtonen True Love is actually an old song. He was performing it as early at '96, so he wrote it in the early to mid-90s.

  • @cocainecosmonaut cool I was commenting that the vocals on true love were his last vocal recordings before passing(not that it was the last song he wrote)......he wrote many songs early and ended up finally recording them later.

  • @giodamon Is there a non-instrumental version of "abused"?

  • Yes there is, I'm sure it's on Youtube somewhere. It's obviously not been finished and is a rough vocal track, but it's quite good.

  • AWESOME!! I can't wait to get home and check it out. Being at work suddenly sucks 50% more than it did a few minutes ago.

  • @timothywyatt72

oh yeah man, just search it. it's amazing.

  • So. Fucking. Good.

  • can i get the mp3 somewheres?

  • very rare, it was on the "basement demos" from the elliott fan pages, but the got related cause of the release of "new moon"
