They don't do that anymore - They stopped doing that about 37 years ago,, Back in the old days not all babies were spanked after they were born because if there was health problems or if The baby was disabled or Too small to handle it.
Actually, I heard that they have to do that in order to get a reaction out of the baby to see if it's okay. Although I could be wrong, then again, that's just what I've heard...
