Well guarded? A couple of Marines with M14's, plus two or three unarmed sailors. That's enough in most situations. There would be a platoon of Marines on the boat plus of course the warship itself has defenses, and there are other warships and/or roving MP's ashore. Nowadays, they don't forward deploy the nukes at all, except on boomer subs and ICBMs in the silo. The rest are in CONUS bunkers that are heavily defended.
