I agree with your assessment of the character. He is very insecure with himself and never speaks up but this song is his one chance to shine. He really shows his true colors by the end of the song but returns to his mousey quality at the end. Poor Amos!

@GilmoreGuy23 He's right. It starts off loud, 'cause he just realized he was the kid's father. ANYONE would be excited. But then he gets timid again, builds to become outspoken and loud, but ends on an even MORE timid note. He ends the same way he begins, but the middle part is what he feels, and thus you can't really be too loud, so long as you begin and end insecure.

Yeah, I'm a BFA music theatre major at Elon. I don't usually practice in front of a mirror. I develop a certain physicality and voice for my character and then attempt to apply it to my song. I'm studying the Meisner technique here, so that is influencing how I go about rehearsing and developing a character.
