  • I never knew what reverence was before 1:22. Andy Kaufman knew who his heroes were.

  • Comment removed

  • 1:23 Andy's like, "Holy.....shit...."

  • He lives a whole 15 minutes from my house. I actually saw him driving down the road a few days ago. :)))

  • The rapper Slim Dunkin got shot to death on FRI17DEC2011 in an Atlanta recording studio, in front of 20 eyewitnesses and the shooter was not identified.

Here is a masterpiece by the great Slim Whitman -- I Remember You. Enjoy.

  • The reason Andy Kaufman looks like he was in a trance was because he truly was a fan of Slim's music. You can tell Andy liked what he liked and had a true appreciation for the likes of Slim even though he wasn't popular at the time. I like this clip alot.

  • Movies really keep great music around. I loved this song since I first heard it...

  • andy kaufmann and slim whitman wtf?

  • House of 1000 corpses

  • my left ear is lonely T_T

  • What happened to the sound?

  • I believe andy looked at him the way he did because he was also in that state

  • I spent 3 months bedridden when I was very ill in total silence. At the end of those 3 months my inner state was holy. I saw this video while in that state on the kauffman special. It was 1 of the most incredible and amazing things I have ever seen. Now that I live in the world again and have become inwardly filthy, I don't think I would have looked twice at this. But seeing this video reminds me of that beautiful time and that beautiful state when I had gods peace.

  • @Vpopov81 yowza...

  • @Vpopov81

    take more drugs

  • Lmfao....Kaufman kills me

  • looks like a pedophile. I'm sorry.

  • @mharrin5507 So sad that people are so jaded now days as to think like that

  • tortilla lookin motha fucka!!

  • he's tan as fuck!

btw that host is doped up on something clearly

  • @dlund92 Not just a host.....Andy...Kaufman...

  • And if you didn't know....he always did stupid shit like this to people to fuck with them lol

  • @whysoserious89 Sorry. Andy Kaufman was very impressed with talent. He spent years trying to impersonate Slim.

  • Slim Whitman was born with the gift of a beautiful unique voice. Thankfully he shared it with us all. Join us on Facebook and celebrate Slim’s life and music together with his many fans. Marje Morgan. Administrator of the SWAS. Ref No: 5209942149.

  • It's weird finding out he was really famous back then. When I was a kid he went to my grandparent's church. Had no idea who he was.

  • Such haunting music. His vocal range is amazing.

  • ..\0/..

  • THIS IS WHAT GOOD MUSIC SOUNDS LIKE!!! NOT RnB and so on. I LOVE THE CLASSICS. what if this was the music now n we dressed like in the 50-60's n we got icecream parlors n burger shacks like back then. but we still had HD 3D TV's n most stuff now but like back then. ^^ id be happy

  • Love all Slim Whitman songs, loved his voice from the first time heard him in the early 50's when radio was king.

  • hahahahaha andy is funny

  • Andy did such a great job of introducing him that few can see the humor which is so Andy...A classic...

  • @1636100 Hm. I would argue that the main feature of Kaufman's humor is not its subtlety, unless "subtle" is synonymous with "invisible". Nothing against you, but I've heard so many people go on and on about him, and I don't think he was ever funny on his own. He was good as Latke, though.

  • I saw Slim Whitman live in Bloomburg Tx in 1949. He had a tent show and came there 2 or 3 times.I was too young then to appreciate what a great singer he really was but have listened to him off and on ever since.

There was a wrestling bear in his show. They had a syrup sopping contest and the winner got to wrestle the bear. he boy who won slapped at the bear and the bear slapped him hard. The handler came running and said you have to wrestle the bear not hit him LOL

  • @billphilpott It's a shame Slim Whitman allowed himself to be involved in anyway with animal abuse.

  • @tuguybear You missed the point. The bear wasn't being abused the boy was. That wasn't slim whitman's act anyway. It was another act that was traveling with him.

  • a perfect face for a horror film

  • even though he had one of the best Voices in Country Music, he never made in the U.S. he was huge in Europe in the 70s. lot of Jealosy in Nashville

  • FOR THE QUEEN AND MR KEOHANE

  • Slim Whitman is one of the nicest gentlemen ever to grace the music industry. I have loved his music for decades. Only wish I could have seen him perform in person.

  • 13 jerks don't want to remember you.

  • Slim didn't back down to no one.

  • He's great!

  • if his a lipsyncer hes perfect at it

  • Andy--- what a faggot ! Do not look at another man that way !

  • Ahhh!! house of 1000 corpses

  • Andy appears to be kayfabing IMO...

  • Andy Kaufman is having a brogasm at 1:23. This song is wonderful. It's nice to sing too. What happened to good music with such sweet lyrics? I would definitly like to feel that way about a women.

  • Wow, great stuff!

  • like beavis and butthead said, slim whitman DOES look like a mass murderer.

  • I don't believe Kaufman was awestruck. I read in a book somewhere about him that he was shocked that Slim Whitman was lip-synching.

  • @bradleywilson22 But how could Andy be shocked when no one in the band was plugged in to anything? I'm sure there were rehearsals.

    Was Andy mad about it?

  • Andy Kaufman ROOOOOOOOOOCKS!

  • Slim, your voice is beautiful. Andy, you scare me a little bit.

  • Slim's voice could make an aliens from outer space's head explode..

  • great song ,in all honestly george michaels version is amazing ,check it out

  • awesome voice, my favorite singer of all time...I remember meeting him about 20 years ago in Virginia where I had driven to from N.C. because he was going to be giving a concert there. It was held outdoors and I got to meet him face to face & thank him. It was an incredible concert. Thanks, Slim!!!! God bless you.

  • Real American music! Amazing, haunting, 10% original. I LOVE Slim Whitman! I'm black too! :) Floridian too! :) :)

  • I have Slim on CD. He is a one of a kind with, "his singing for the reafters singing!"

  • Frank ifield has watched this 12 times.

  • That is one of the cheesiest, most awful slaughtering of a beautiful love song I've ever heard.

  • One of the prettiest voices I've ever heard. I love all his music. Thanks Slim.

  • :P kaufman is sort of creepy.

  • For most of the early original records by Slim and dozens of love songs, go to my

    Youtube -- 1horsesrcool

  • YOU HEARD THIS-CAN ANYONE SAY MORE-PERIOD

  • i first heard slim in 1977 i think i was about 10years old my dad bought the lp red river valley, I did not know what I heard , how he could sing never heard that before and since then never heard it from someone else.Slim got into the back of my mind and now I have some recordings of Slim and I enjoy every song I listen too , great

  • The first - and maybe the last - time I've ever seen a host awestruck.

  • @MrPoupard

I think I know why Andy is stupefied. Check out this YouTube video made by gg32068 called “Slim Whitman meets Andy Kaufman”. Because when you see the look in Slim´s eyes when he is saying “I remember you”, I am sure that he refers to that performance of Andy.

Nice touch Gary, to end with the beginning of Indian love call. Then everybody can understand Andy´s dress.

  • I love this song, and he sings it so effortlessly, fantastic

  • @spabrat we have a new page on facebook for slim ,its: welcome to the slim whitman fan club in the usa and uk

  • @spabrat i think he's lipsynching

  • this song was perfect for the scene in rob zombie's movie : The house of 1000 corpses

  • Am from the Philippines. Slim Whitman is a very great country singer. Im collecting his songs.

  • Slim Whitman is unique! The greatest singer of all time!

There will never be another voice as beautiful as his!

Marje Morgan Wrexham North Wales UK. And a member of the SWAS on Facebook!

  • If I could do that i"d never leave the house!!!

  • slim was out postman in the late 60,s in shreveport louisiana he was known as the singing postman everytime i hear his music i remember him delivering our mail those was the good old days

  • @rickholly1 what do you mean? he was your postman? slim whitman?

  • That host guy should go into comedy!

  • @frankysandwich Oh well....

  • Slim Whitman for Glastonbury ??? Now that would be something.

  • I would have stood like a stunned mullet if Whitman was singing that close.

  • I think Andy was actually quite surprised, but then quite pleased by Slim's beautiful voice, belying his looks. Great song sung by a great singer. Also, check out Frank Ifield's version from 1962. Thanks for posting.

  • kinda a cross between Guy Williams and Saddam Hussain..

  • this song is in Rob Zombie's House of 1000 Corpses movie

  • And we also remember you Slim from the 1950s to the come back in the 1980s.

I never forgot you and would always be hunting for your recordings, think I have just about everything you ever recorded.

    1horsesrcool

  • @rosamcgoum -- yes Slim is alive and kicking -- though up in years - he still gets around -- he lost his wife about 15 months or so ago . . .I believe last Christmas was a tough holiday for him . . as he left the Christmas tree in the front livingroom displayed longer than normal . . (1st Christmas without his wife, Gerry)

  • @TeeShirtHut Oh, thank you for the information about Slim, although very sad.

I hope he has a lot of people around him who loves him,he seems to be a charismatic and beautiful person, as well as a unique singer. I only discovered him lately, because when I was a child my parents used to play his songs and I was only around 7 but these songs remained in my mind. I even remember some phrases of Tennessen Waltz, RoseMarie Ohh how romanticTku again Rosa

  • Jeeze, I'm just as stunned as Kaufman, may he RIP.

  • There's just no questioning the beauty of a voice like his.

Where have all the Slim Whitmans,Marty Robbins, Roy Orbisons etc. gone?

  • @kodiakfred140 Hello. I agree with you. Being a professional musician, for 20 some yrs, and retired in my 30's, for many reason's, including being a woman, I learned that it's only about 45% talent and 55% performance acting. Also the 55% tile, included wearing the most sexy, yet legal costume's(or clothing, whatever). Even though I did those things when young, I am regretful now! It's just so very sad, because I prefer the pure, raw talent also!

  • You have to go to you tube, there is no other like Slim Whitman, anywhere!

  • Just realized that he's left handed.

  • @Livewithangels Actually he is right. He, for some reason, learned to play backwards.

  • @izvn Hi! Just from pure curiosity, where did you hear, or read, that he actually learned to play the guitar as a right handed player, yet backwards, for some reason?

  • @izvn Im not sure but Wiki quotes: Beatle George Harrison cites Whitman as an early influence: "The first person I ever saw playing a guitar was Slim Whitman, either a photo of him in a magazine or live on television. Guitars were definitely coming in."[5] Paul McCartney credited a poster of Whitman with giving him the idea of playing his guitar left handed, with his guitar strung the opposite way to a right-handed player.[

  • @blackcarrick my potty mouth is my own business.

  • What year did this take place? You forgot (?) to mention the year. Thanks

  • I have a bunch of 45,s and extended play as well as LP,S i brought from Belfast,N.Ireland in 1958 ,think i have most of his records if not all and Hank Williams.

  • That is so Good I just can't stand it... love it.....

  • one of the greatest singers of all time .a gentle giant

  • I saw this song at a very special time in my life after 3 months of intensive meditation. It was one of the most beautiful things id ever seen

  • samweisberg: You got it! Andy's expression is one of almost comical rapt adoration. Hard to fake that. This is what good music is all about- and why fans are fans.

  • I Love you Andy!

  • Slim is badass and I love that Kaufman was in this video.

  • Wow--such talent and he's so at ease. Slim is a classic who'll go on forever--and his backup boys are darned good, as well!

  • 11 people didn't like this enough to officially vote they didn't like this as of June / Eleven / MMX.

  • Thanks for this posting. Mr. Whitman's rendition of this beautiful piece brings tears to my eyes and makes my heart ache for my late Mom, so dear and precious. My Scottish Grandmother (maternal) was a big fan too. On a visit to Edinburgh many years ago, the guest house I stayed at had BBC piped into the rooms through an unusual radio/intercom system ... most of the musical selections were Slim Whitman tunes!! God Bless and thank you, Mr. Whitman, for the memories and the entertainment,

  • How fucking cool is THIS?

  • @Lrpesme48 No need for offensive language

  • @blackcarrick Are you FUCKING serious? Do you belong to the FUCKING church of SLIM?? I quite obviously LOVE this music so FUCK off. :)

  • With Jim Morrison on the steel guitar. lolololololololololol

  • Thank you so much for this video. One of the great talents of all time. Was able to meet him in person years ago.

  • A great singer who saved the Earth from the nasty Martians

  • Is this the original of Frank Ifield´s recording?

  • Fantastic song...one of the great classics sung with a unique and marvelous

interpretation and arrangement (steel guitars...Wow!!). Thank you for posting

and to paulO for sharing! Wonderful!

  • bjork's version is better.

  • I remember on the show" WKRP in Cincinatti" the radio station crew teased Venus Flytrap about his collection of Slim Whitman records.I guess liking Slim Whitman is something me and ole Venus have in common.

  • Slim Whitman is the man who got me into yodeling. He has one of the most beautiful voices I've ever heard and this is one of my top favorite songs in existence. I love how enamored Andy Kaufman was with him and I don't blame him one bit.

  • Sounds like Heaven might be like.

  • Wasn't this song in the movie House Of 1000 Corpse? Good classic country song by the way.

  • yes... it is :D

  • I remember first watching that scene and hearing this song at the same time as it was done in slow motion. Boy was it sort of nerve wrecking watching and hearing this song. :)

  • I love the juxtaposition of this song with that scene, it's brilliantly ironic.

  • I think this man had a very special guift from God and I loved to hear him sing.

  • why always keep looking up??

  • wow ! this video is a powerful testament to the sheer power of the effect of astonishing talent has ,look at Andy Kaufmen! Not even trying to disguise is amazement , beautiful

  • Andy's reaction at roughly 1:25=the reason to be alive!

  • lol. yea thats a funny look. but....but (and i know how big of a fan he was) but can you even trust that face. if he was on camera or infront of people he was always putting on a show. im sure though he was enjoying it

  • found you again ipp,you REALLY need to get a life mate, slim is a legend

  • Left handed. :')

  • ACK ACK ACK ACK!!

  • andys got a hard on

  • How many octaves can this guy sing? Amazing!

  • @chunhaylee He has an amazing 3 octave range.

  • Happy birthday Mr. Whitman!

  • This is apparently the version that Frank Iefield copied in the mid sixties when he had a hit with this old beautiful song.

  • as far as I know, Ifield recorded it first in '62, Whitman never did a version til '65, but I agree, this is a really cool track.

  • This a true love song! The emotions i feel listening to this song cannot be described. Andy seems to feel the same way.

  • @warheart850 ...you can say that again. What Andy was 'feeling' at the time can't be described...and probably shouldn't be.

    : )

  • I love that for once the host is genuinely pleased the star! brilliant

  • andy looks great!

  • I never watched "The Midnight Special" much. Never knew they had such a wide variety of musical genres! I know Mr Whitman has been the butt of many jokes over the years, but he really did have an AMAZING voice. THANKS for sharing this fascinating footage with us! Hope ALL your dreams & wishes come true in the New Year! :)

  • Looks like Andy was a huge fan of Slim. Slim was the master of 'countri-fying' pop standards. This one's by Johnny Mercer. A great yodeler, too. Check out his "Lovesick Blues". Thanks, SCI

  • Mercer was only responsible for the lyrics. Victor Scherzinger wrote the song....and died the year it was published (1941) !

  • yes is the song of the 1000 corps and i love it

  • @kyler187

Exactly. People who promote that notion haven't heard THIS stuff. Simply beautiful.

  • I was just kidding. I saw beavis and butthead say that when they were watching this music video. It sounded funny.

  • Such great interaction between Andy and Slim at the start -- can you say awkward?

  • Something About This Song ! ! !

  • this was on house of 1000 corpses

  • when i was little my grandma made me listen to his music as a punishment. brings back memories

  • big - your comment cracked me up - BIGTIME.....

    thanks

  • this song is kinda spooky.

  • my dad just told me about how he used to listen to this as a kid and i came and wow, just wow. This is amazing.

  • haha. andy is turned to stone

  • I don't blame Andy for being starstruck. Slim Whitman has a beautiful voice. That's how I was when I saw the Platters here on 4th of July. All the young people didn't get it, but I was up some feet away from the stage with my mouth dropped open going "OMG" in my head because those are the people I saw in the 1957 classic "The Girl Can't Help It" and one of my favorite old doo-wop groups.

    I'm 21. I love this song.

  • im 15, listen to Rob zombie and slayer. AND I LOVE THIS SONG. I try to like all kinds of genres. Thats one thing i notice a lot of kods don't do. but your right, he really does have an amazing voice.
