Great...great song regardless of when it was laid down! I grew up in Georgia and can remember this song playing on the AM radio. Just as true today as it was back then...testament of a great tune!
Hits me where I lived and where I was. Many hurts and several damages. Thank you tho for our Savior Jesus Christ. He has forgiven me. My problem is forgiving myself.
@eggsem yeah. That's the bigger thing, isn't it? I once heard a pastor say "We think we're more important when we can't forgive ourselves when our Creator has already done it." Chin up.you'll get there.
I'm 60 yrs. old and married to Kara whose address I'm using. I grew up on old country and played this song for Kara 10 years ago. Kara is 36 and now loves old country. Just goes to show you the power of truly good music and not the trash of today. Thanks for posting. Vic
@kwdrm1 you are so right.........i remember listening to this when I was younger and the part about mommy and daddy fighting was where i was at. And does not seem like things has changed. Fortunately my kids do not hear us fight because we don't.
Marvelous song. "Country with conscience". I remember hearing it a lot back when it was new, most often from the spiffy clock radio I had in my room...:)
I have worked as a nursing assist before I became a nurse and even after getting my degree, I still did one on one patient care the best that I could.
Nursing facility's need volunteers to help with passing ice, reading to people, perhaps you belong to a group that can entertain, do that. Get involved the best way you can, that helps with patient care also. Just sitting and listening to someone talk so they don't feel alone makes a difference also.
I was a nurse and worked everything from home health to ICU. My parents ended up in a assisted living because they could provide care I could not do. I have a spinal cord injury that prevented me from taking care of them at home. They both have passed now, but the home they were in was a God send. They took very good care of my parents.
a powerful song back then, the song still holds true today.when i found this song on 45 in the late 1980s,it was the first time i heard it and still like it today.
I remember going head to head with my teachers over some controversial issues during the time this song was out.The nun brought in a portable record player and played a record with a narrative of a father talking about young people of the day and remarking that if his son burned his draft card he would no longer have a son.I brought in Henson Cargill's 45 "Skip A Rope".Caused a stir in my Catholic High School in New York City.Wish I knew the titled of that other 45rpm record!
i used to play my dads 45s that i still have and this was one of my favoriets and by the time i was 16 i learned what the song ment after my first child!!
I remember hearing it on the hidden AM radio under the pillow. Asked my mom and dad what it meant. Kind of a bummer for a little kid, to get a lesson in reality.
Nocaro is right. in my area it went top 5 on the rock/pop charts. I remember KIMN and KOMA playing it frequently. In the evening I could pick up 1520 KOMA effortlessly, it boomed 50,000 watts of great music.
@Moodiesfanalways Those old 50,000 AM powerhouses were awesome. It's too bad almost all of them stopped playing good music. All that's left are KWKH Shreveport (1130), KCKN Rockwell NM (1020), WSM Nashville (650) and if you like classic MOR with a touch of oldies in the Northeast, CFZM Toronto (740).
I've always heard that there are two people to listen to if you want to hear the unvarnished truth about almost anything: inebriated people and young children.
I was only three years old when this song was released, but I can remember it being on the radio all the time, while riding in the car with my parents. It's interesting to remember them singing along, and thinking they understood the lyrics. As I got older, the memory of the song stayed, but it became clear that while some people were singing along, tapping their toe, they were not getting the message. Hypocrisy, in every form, is what kills. You gotta walk it if you're gonna talk it....
Now Mommy and Daddy are living in an assisted-living facility, with oxygen hoses in their noses, and bad-tempered "caregivers" who change their diapers every hour. Our negligence and hypocrisy has cursed us. God, save us.
@1garrett2100 : I'm 56 years old; I'm used to knowing the truth, and speaking it. It's my observation that people who occupy that area of life these days are known as "jerks". I'm sure Noah was referred to that way, as well as Jesus Christ, so it doesn't disturb me--it's practically a compliment, when I consider who's saying it. By the way, there's no "a" in the word "jerk".
@buzzclick500- My brother and I Promised our parents we wouldn't put them in a nursing home!! My Dad passed away in 2007 from Lymphoma, and I live with Mom. She will always have a home with my brother and I !
@buzzclick500 I am a former nurse and if I can lend an ear I will. I can also pray with you if you want. Both of my parents ended up at a assisted living home and got fantastic care. I feel blessed they were at the one they were at at the end.
I remember the trailer park at that time--the two little blonde girls who lived in the double-wide across the street, and their dad who would stare death at any of us who looked at them.... ;])
I was born in 1987 and LOVE this song. I used to listen to the cassette "supertrucker 2" while riding in the motorhome. It would just play on repeat for hours and hours. Awesome songs.

Listen carefully to the lyrics; some of the subject matter is (unfortunately) still true today---"And Mommy and Daddy---are who's to blame."
