@xadam2dudex If they identify as one gender, it doesn't matter if that makes them gay in the end process. I have a friend who used to be a she, and he came out as gay. It's all about how one sees themselves.

@avagke Someone here claimed January as DVD release date but amazon says May, so no idea. I don 't know whether any other countries apart from Germany show it. It was on two festivals in Italy already (all in all over 50 worldwide), so maybe it will be on another. Doubt it will be muc in cinemas, even here you only see it in the evening. I guess its simply not a topic for the masses, albeit being such a good film.

@40racquel Depending on how popular it would be, maybe someone will. I saw it twice on the Berlinale Film Festival in February. The film was shown five times and as far as I know the cinema was full every time. When I saw it for the first time I got the last ticket and supposedly hundreds had to stay outside when the film had premiere on the festival.

However amazon.com says the DVD comes out in January, amazon.de says May.

@susysoutherland98 Well, I guess an actual female to male trans guy of the right age and acting skills would probably be hard to find, especially considered that this was the director's first film.

And in the movie you see videos of actual trans guys and you would have never guessed it as well, so the choice fits.

@mrsethcorbin No, the actor playing the trans man is a cis man. Disappointing, I know, as trans actors don't get a lot of work, and this could have helped start some young trans guy's career, but the movie still looks brilliant.

Maybe but it was the directors first film and finding an actual female to male trans actor of the right age and sufficient german language skills (meaning someone actually sounding like a german) would have been pretty difficult I guess.

Whether you would like the film I don't know. I can only say that I am gonna see it for the third time this evening. In cinema I might add ;)

@inotaishu1 That's true - it's hard enough finding the right actors for a role, and adding the prerequisite of being trans would have made it more difficult. I just find it disappointing that a lot of cinema about trans people have them played by cis actors, but I can completely understand the difficultly involved.

Unfortunately I don't speak German so I'll have to wait for it to be released with subtitles. I'll definitely be watching it though.
