you have nice playing skill, and goodjob! one thing i noticed is that your bow slides up and down a lot. this is because your bow angle to the string is not straight and at a 90 degree angle. you should work on this, and really clearifys the sound. hope this helps, have fun! :)
@laiZazn Lynn Harrell is not only a professional, but a world-known cello soloist!! He was picked as a principal cello of the Cleveland symphony orchestra by George Szell, and after that he teached cello at the Royal Academy of music. I think there is very little advice you can give him.
@laiZazn are you seriously telling lynn harrell to improve on his bow angle? wow. its like telling heifetz not to play all his spiccato at the tip cus he sounds like 'shit'. get outta here.
@laiZazn do you really know anything about contact point in relation to your string length, bow speed, weight, and color changes? wow, please, refrain from commenting.
@laiZazn Haha, are you kidding me? This is LYNN HARRELL. He can do what he wants with his bow. Speaking of which... I believe nnce one reaches a certain level, many of the common cello 'rule's and guidelines (such as a 90 degree angle bow), must be bent in order to further develop ones individual sound. Lynn Harrell is a fantastically original player.
@laiZazn ACTUALLY, the reason the bow "slides up and down a lot" is because he uses his bow placement on the string to help with different sound qualities. Playing very close to the bridge produces a much different sound than playing over the fingerboard. His bow is completely at a 90 degree angle when he is not changing his bow position on the string. this is a completely correct method, and a good way to achieve different sounds. ITS LYNN HARRELL DUDE
No.... Yo Yo Ma left a $3 million dollar cello is a cab...
I just looked it up: " ... the most expensive instrument ever to have been left in a New York City taxi. In 2001, musician Lynn Harrell left behind a 328-year-old Stradivarius cello worth $4 million."
Heard you play a BBC Prom in the Albert Hall way back, first time I had any perception of what a cello really could sound like....truly unforgettable.
Many thanks for posting these, youtube cannot do your playing true justice. Hope to get an opportunity to hear you again.
Could anyone please post anymore of Mr. Harrell's vids?? can't seem to find them anywhere. His Shostakovich Concerto, Schelemo, and Arpeggione is the BEST. And this is coming from someone who studied with Starker many years ago.
like a boss.
