Yes It was Raul de la Rosa the festival organizer.I know for a fact that the videos exist because they were broadcasted on national t.v.
Not only Mr Dixon and Hooker were there but Muddy Waters, Bill Branch, Sunny Land also.
The venue was the main concert hall at the University of Mexico which has tremendous accoustics. and it was the first blues festival which showed that even in spite of the language barrier people were hungry for the blues and those musicians.Hope to see more videosmr.laRosa
I must be listening to this for the 10000th time now! This song is really tight and I love to hear how Big Walter exploits every possibilty of first position playing.Check out his face, he's really feelin' the music!
The tune is "Cleo's Back". It's an instrumental that was originally done by Jr. Walker & The All-Stars, but it seems like most of the blues guys active in Chicago in the '60s and '70s did a version of it, often as a 'break song' at the end of their set. And yes, Big Walter is playing in first position.
Check out Walters cheeks - only ever seen brass instrument players swell out like this before!!
