Uniforms are like a polish. Only a cap and march speed are diferent... In my opinion a drill is in half russian and in half polish. I think that many ages in union with Poland and russian occupied impressed their track in latvian army. But parade is great.
I don't want to be arrogant, but Latvian military doesn't have anything to do with defending Latvia since it turned professional. Latvian soldiers soul purpose is to fight for money in some hotspot. What more can you do with only 900 mercs armed with fancy G36 rifles. That's the problem with Baltic politicians (including ours), they don't belive in our chances against you know who and think, that bigger NATO members should do the fighting for us.

These are paramilitary organizations, their role is to suport the army not the other way around. Conscript service which is constantly producing reservists is the only way to effectively defend a small country. Latvia and Lithuania abandoned it and drastically reduced their defence spendings.

I just checked numbers about Latvia. Before II WW 10% russians lived in Latvia, 75% were Latvians. Maybe this what you talked about russians in Latvia. But after II WW when the horror started, these are the percent numbers, how many latvians were in Latvia. 1959 it was 62%, 1970 it was 56,8%, 1979 it was 53.7%, 1989 it was 52% of latvians. Thanks for NATO now Baltics states are in safe from this horror, and ofcourse russians, like you don't like it and now scream in here and swear like a pig!

Latvia does not need any army.
Reasons:
1. Crisis, money should be spent on more important things.
2. Latvia could not be able to resist great country invasion, no point of innocent people die! Example: Georgia vs. South Osetia and Georgia vs. Russia and I guess there is no such US war, that was WON so fast, I say that because Latvia is in NATO.
3. If here should be army, it counts should be minimum (Only for peace keeping inside).

Uniforms are like a polish. Only a cap and march speed are diferent... In my opinion a drill is in half russian and in half polish. I think that many ages in union with Poland and russian occupied impressed their track in latvian army. But parade is great.

I don't want to be arrogant, but Latvian military doesn't have anything to do with defending Latvia since it turned professional. Latvian soldiers soul purpose is to fight for money in some hotspot. What more can you do with only 900 mercs armed with fancy G36 rifles. That's the problem with Baltic politicians (including ours), they don't belive in our chances against you know who and think, that bigger NATO members should do the fighting for us.

@Nhosto It is called Zemessardze, it's the biggest barnch in the Latvian Armed Forces and a best hope if "somebody" tries to invade. In Estonia we have Kaitseliit (Defence League). These are paramilitary organizations, their role is to suport the army not the other way around. Conscript service which is constantly producing reservists is the only way to effectively defend a small country. Latvia and Lithuania abandoned it and drastically reduced their defence spendings.

I just don't like the march, it's a very mechanical, Germanic march, that is the antithesis of the kind of marches composed by Bronius Jonusas of Lithuania and John Phillips Sousa of the United States, among others. Other than that, it was a great video.
