Bob Lutz is a Fucking Puttz... The Volt is an Overpriced, Over-Engineered, Corporate "FEEL-GOOD" Pile of Bull SHIT !!!! $32,400 is Affordable ! Seriously ???
Lets "GET REAL" America !!!. Cars for the Masses that are AFFORDABLE is the KEY Here !!!. Lets get the masses OFF the OPEC oil TIT !!! Lets stop allowing other countrys - Most of the them Radical Muslim - To Control our Economy !!! Its time NOW - not Tomorrow !!!
@kalargyi The differences is that a hybrid uses the gas to actually move the car, while this car does not. This is a big difference because now you can go long distances with no compromise to power with just electricity.
We purchased a Cadillac this year (good vehicle and it doesn't hurt to support the US). My concern with these electric cars is that the USA use coal to generate most of its electricity (very unclean). Also, batteries require so much energy to produce and they pollute via their acid, etc. Finally, maybe "reinventing" the Volt is not so bad; case and point: Toyota Prius (it just looks different).
@Rudeinfw they will still own GM and all of us untill we get true Electric vehicles. look at teslas Model S. it will make this Volt looks like a bolt.
The statement that you get a "tax rebate" is false. You will get a "tax credit". It means that even if you pay no taxes at all and buy one of these cars you will get the money. Where does this money come from? It comes from fellow tax payers. It is taking money from one citizen and giving it to another. A citizen who is being nudged into doing what the Gov. wants. The cars sales will be subsidized by tax payers.
@nearkolob so what? Go back to your tea farm. The govt has, within its abilities, the ability to redirect monies and tax revenue to push America forward.
only americans can be that stupid to convert fuel to electricity, then to power up electric motor. it's so unefficient. assuming the generator would power up the electric motors constantly, they would consume 2 times more than previous cars, and 4 times more than european cars.
@Nastc1 you are too naive to believe that. that probably means with full battery and full gas tank. and that's what you get on average after emptying both.
@korencek 82% of all 2-way daily commutes in America are LESS than 40 Miles. Over 90% of all ONE way daily commutes are less than 40 miles. The 40-mile volt electric range is perfect and the range-extender will eliminate ev range-anxiety and make the volt the only car a family will need instead of buying an ev for city and a gas car for long trips.
@korencek 82% of all 2-way daily commutes in America are LESS than 40 Miles. Over 90% of all ONE way daily commutes are less than 40 miles. COOL I like the idea, BUT plugging in a car at the house for 8 hours to charge is not free either. How much will it cost in the rise of electric bills to get better gas milage? Really the cars that get gas milage need to lower there prices to make the savings worth it.
This car will sell like hotcakes when introduced. Plus the Volt is just the first of a bunch of EREV's that GM has planned. And I have it on good word that most of the major manufacturers have plans for EREV's as well. GM is in the lead but there will be others right on their heels. EREV is the future.
The rumors are from 32K-40K. GM has been very ambiguous about price. They are only going to make 10K units the first year (90K second year) so there won't be any problem selling out the first run. This is intentional. This is such a radical new car that they want to release it in small amounts to test the design. There will be a 7.5K rebate. As time goes on the economics of scale will kick in and the price will come down just like big screen TVs. EREV's will be a force in the car industry.
They could have put this car or something out better long ago but they just will not because GM and our Government are being influenced by oil company lobbyists.
Yep i was drinking when i left that one, lol. Thats cool tho, i wonder why america doesn't believe in using diesels as much? I know over in Europe they're very popular.
Air Pollution Regulations here in US are much stricter than Europe. However VW and Audi do have some new clean Diesels which will meet tougher standards. They tend to be the leader in Diesels. In addition Diesels got a bad rap here with the VW Rabbit being an absolutely terrible car. The damn thing made a racket and was a real hog. The new Diesels are much better but reputations die hard.
This video has answered some of my questions, but my only concern is what kind of long term environmental (and even economical) effects is this vehicle going to pose? The battery in this car has a limited useable lifetime, and replacement will no doubt be expensive. This is also no BMW- would a replacement battery be worth the cost? If not, what ends up happening to it? Driving a car for ten years only to dispose of it hardly seems efficient on the environment or the wallet..
jasonman: Do you drive a Toyota Camry and just angry because your crap is being recalled? How is the Volt dangerous???? SUVs are prone to tipping and small cars like the Smart or Mini are death traps, so how is the Volt more dangerous than a slough of other options? MORON
@jasonman1515 how is driving or working on an electric car dangerous? if you are going to post something like this, please explain your point of view.
$40k?!! Oh ok, $32.5k if the unemployed US taxpayers foot the rebate to cover some of it. I was interested untl I heard that. One could get a used Corolla and drive it for 10 years with gasoline at$10/gallon and do much better.
The target consumer will have to finance this car with credit that dried up long ago.
Electric vehicle is a dream, which in our lifetimes will never be achieved on a massive scale . You can not build a car, including the electric one, without using oil-based polimers, not for at least 100 years, all these organic and biodegradable materials are a myth, and will never be mass-produced with the Peak-Oil in sight. Keep on dreaming consumers.
if we dont do so the asians will take over the market, there wont be no chicken on our tables no more
everything is made in asia this day
I dont buy asian I always look where was made at,must be usa, central america, south america, they buy their own stuff,do u see asians here in the states driving america?
what i can bet my friend that Japanise will make will not only make electric car like americans did, they will make it better faster and the look of a car will be like a real begining of 22 Centuary. i mean what would you pick, Dodge Charger srt8 or Lexus F? almost same price.
Also GM battery's suck 12V, 32V and there 300V systems.
Just put a cell in a Saturn vue hybrid one cell is upward of $700 + labor o and 9 more cells.
I love GM and its good to see new technology but people love push rod engines it's the American way. People don't care about gas mileage as long as gas is cheap

@beyeriii lol the electric car era was sparked in the 80's with the EV-1. yes built by GM. Now Tesla will crush GM with their Models S. The Volt is a fail and it will flop.
@beyeriii dude, that is just sad... Pontiac GTO is considered the first muscle car, do you really think a mustang could take that honor? And the Chevy Camaro doubled the mustang in sales for the first two or three years. And, I see where you are coming from. Mustang started the pony cars, but the GTO started the Muscle cars. Muscles are bigger and badder.
why not driving an smal smart in the citty and when planing an over land trip just renting an bigger petrol car ..... i have no car at all - the weekend i cycle to one of the car renting stations and get an posh car, the size i need it that day.
