Riot Games are quite clever having the game free to play. When I first started to play LoL I had no idea that i actually was willing to pay for the Champions for like real money and that actually is the way they make their cash.

This would mean that [insert your favorite artist here] is way worse than say Justin Bieber, Black eyed peas etc. And that LoL is worse than tetris, since the total sales for that game is way over 100 millions, just for cell phones, while LoL has, from what I have heard, a measly 14 million registered users in comparison. So by that logic, you should stop playing LoL and go play Tetris or perhaps Super Mario.

@xProdigyxWolf Please, don't claim that HoN, DotA or any other competetive multiplayer game is PERFECTLY balanced. Since the heroes, champions or whatever, are different to each other, perfect balance is not achievable. It might be great balance, or worthless balance, but perfect balance is impossible. The fact that there is a metagame proves this. There are certain strategies and hero compositions, as well as heroes, that are better than others.

Some heroes have a slight edge, by being slightly harder to counter for example, and it is impossible to achieve perfect balance. The only way to do this is to have only one kind of hero and the map being identical on each side. This does not mean that it is imbalanced. Everything can be countered, but not equally effective.

The reason I hate HoN is simply because they have no real way of teaching new players what to do. Starting in LoL it is very obvious what items buff what and what is best to buy and such... Playing HoN is fun but when I ask people how to play during games they just rage at me for being new... The difference is that when I play LoL I don't need to ask because the game provides a simple means of knowing what the fuck is happening.

@bushzzz Both games are entertaining in their own way, and they both has their pros/cons. It all usually comes down to what game you started playing first, and than hate on the other.
But look at the statistics between Hon and LoL, when you claim that your game is better. LoL has a lot more active players, and millions more accounts than Hon, including bigger community and matchmaking system. HoN had to make their game Free-for-all to keep up the popularity of LoL.

@MrF1zzy You can always try the tutorial, the practice games, and the recent mentor system in order to learn how to play. People may/will get mad at you if you are new, like in any other team based game, because the chain is as strong as its weakest link... but thats a problem in a lot of games, after you learn how to play its up to you if you help new players or if you just insult them and tell them to uninstall.

@MrF1zzy What are u talking about? I tried LoL first when i saw an advertisement and didnt know wtf to do with items. Then I tried Hon and it was a lot easier to deal with and a lot more cooperative. (Its also a lot smoother, has more action, has better graphics, and a lot more interesting)

Its a good game but learning it just seems a bit too difficult for people who were just starting to get into this genre of game. It also may have helped that I had more friends to play LoL with in the learning process but still the item system confused the shit out of me.

HoN is better than LoL if you own a Macintosh... I agree that LoL is extremely fun, and the community is great. However, as a Mac owner, it makes me sad that LoL can't be played on my computer. On the other hand, HoN's community is great too, the game is quite noob friendly, and competitive. You just have to change your settings. :)

I've played both games and been watching a bit of Dota two. Both games are good and they both copy each other but that's how it works and you are all bitching and shaming each company for copying. But really I think if you all just shut up for a second and look at it these games are similar in so many ways. My friend got me into hon when he made an account to play LoL with me, got atleast 10 KDR every game from the start knowing nothing about the champs, and told me to try hon if i wanted a challenge

Assuming that would be people who play in tournaments with cash rewards, it makes up about .001% of the playerbase for both games, maybe a bit higher for hon considering hon has a lot less players. Plus comparing HoN to LoL is like comparing Starcraft 2 to Warcraft 3. Same makers? Yes. Same concept? Yes. Same genre? yes. But look at this, warcraft three is a war game based on having extreme micro management skills, whereas Starcraft 2 is a game based on heavy macro and build orders and outwitting your opponent.
Ok recap, HoN is pretty much very similar to DotA but with flashier and refined characters, and league of legends is a unique moba game that is geared towards casual gaming AND very high skilled play. Plus HoN copied MANY things from LoL, wukong was mentioned in a news post with a video, and that hyped up SO many people. 4 days later, Monkey King for HoN goes into development, with a very similar character design, but with its own skill set and playstyle.

Lol is much better. HoN just took DotA, and tweaked it. Lol took the concept, and turned it into their own. HoN players have not played Lol and when they do, they just say its terrible because it is cartoonish. HoN is a copy, LoL is not. Copying a champion ability is literally nothing. But copying a game? Guinsoo created DotA Allstars. he is the guy who added item recipes. After DotA's big success he gave it to IceFrog. In 2009 Guinsoo created LoL wanting something new and he added every feature imaginable. Then IceFrog assisted in creating HoN, but ice frog isn't an ideas guy, he is the game-balance guy (and sometimes the hero creator guy) so he just uped the graphics and ''tweaked'' some stuff. So yeah, nothing there is a ripoff of anything

League of legends is for noobs. The community skill is absolutely atrocious. The game looks like a cartoon. There are no runes, and nobody wards. You can go invis by just sitting in some grass. The game is horrible, and HoN trumps it in nearly every aspect. The only people saying that LoL is better than HoN are those people that have never played HoN and want to continue on the path of being an LoL noob.

Its obvious that HoN has evolved into more than just a Dota port.
You can look at Chipper/Rumble, Dark Lady/Nocturne and fairly say Riot ported some S2 designs and mechanics.
In all seriousness you should check Sotis Loco Cit Demigod BLC Dota Renew, before making sarcastic remarks against HoN devs. S2 manage their games superbly, haven't left either of their games in buggy states or with unbalanced versions.

Moba wise they don't have enough draw for new players due to community issues (most of them just being whiners) and their match making system is a load of crap.
I still play it as it is a fun game and the server doesn't overload at christmas.

You know Nocturne's ultimate? It is almost exactly the same as the Dark Lady's ultimate, and she launched before Nocturne. And you know what? There is nothing wrong about copying something sucessful. WoW did it very well --> 11 mil paying subs. I play and enjoy both games. W/o flaming others.

@deathspade42 You do understand that hon was essentially dota 2 when it was made, and it was supposed to be. Some of the dota devs decided, hey, we should team up with S2 games and make our exact same game, but with much needed features(concede vote, reconnect timer, etc.) and give it way better graphics. IceFrog, the head developer i guess, had no problem with this.
Why originality is so highly esteemed is beyond me. On a side note, over half the current roster is 'S2' heroes.

I personally think it's fucking annoying to have to buy all the heroes, which is why I'm happy I bought my HoN account before they changed it. And as you might have realised now, I do play HoN (which I actually said in the first post), and I actually enjoy HoN more than LoL. This does not (due to popular belief) mean that I must hate LoL.

You could say, LoL was heavily inspired by DotA while HoN was more of a clone for those that wanted to get rid of the problems of the WC3 engine and so forth.

@bushzzz Both games are entertaining in their own way, and they both has their pros/cons. It all usually comes down to what game you started playing first, and than hate on the other.
But look at the statistics between Hon and LoL, when you claim that your game is better. LoL has a lot more active players, and millions more accounts than Hon, including bigger community and matchmaking system. HoN had to make their game Free-for-all to keep up the popularity of LoL.

@MrF1zzy You can always try the tutorial, the practice games, and the recent mentor system in order to learn how to play. People may/will get mad at you if you are new, like in any other team based game, because the chain is as strong as its weakest link... but thats a problem in a lot of games, after you learn how to play its up to you if you help new players or if you just insult them and tell them to uninstall.

HoN is better than LoL if you own a Macintosh... I agree that LoL is extremely fun, and the community is great. However, as a Mac owner, it makes me sad that LoL can't be played on my computer. On the other hand, HoN's community is great too, the game is quite noob friendly, and competitive. You just have to change your settings. :)

Plus comparing HoN to LoL is like comparing Starcraft 2 to Warcraft 3. Same makers? Yes. Same concept? Yes. Same genre? yes. But look at this, warcraft three is a war game based on having extreme micro management skills, whereas Starcraft 2 is a game based on heavy macro and build orders and outwitting your opponent.

Ok recap, HoN is pretty much very similar to DotA but with flashier and refined characters, and league of legends is a unique moba game that is geared towards casual gaming AND very high skilled play. Plus HoN copied MANY things from LoL, wukong was mentioned in a news post with a video, and that hyped up SO many people. 4 days later, Monkey King for HoN goes into development, with a very similar character design, but with its own skill set and playstyle.

Lol is much better. HoN just took DotA, and tweaked it. Lol took the concept, and turned it into their own. In all honesty my personal OPPINION, LoL is better... HoN copied Dota essentially pixel for pixel where LoL is its own... If you want to say "Oh LoL copies dotas gameplay" have you ever stopped to think that DotA actually copied a blizzard-created map? What was it called again? Halloween wars or something... Guinsoo created DotA Allstars. he is the guy who added item recipes. After DotA's big success he gave it to IceFrog. In 2009 Guinsoo created LoL wanting something new and he added every feature imaginable. Then IceFrog assisted in creating HoN, but ice frog isn't an ideas guy, he is the game-balance guy (and sometimes the hero creator guy) so he just uped the graphics and ''tweaked'' some stuff. So yeah, nothing there is a ripoff of anything

League of legends is for noobs. The community skill is absolutely atrocious. The game looks like a cartoon. There are no runes, and nobody wards. You can go invis by just sitting in some grass. The game is horrible, and HoN trumps it in nearly every aspect. The only people saying that LoL is better than HoN are those people that have never played HoN and want to continue on the path of being an LoL noob.

Its obvious that HoN has evolved into more than just a Dota port.
You can look at Chipper/Rumble, Dark Lady/Nocturne and fairly say Riot ported some S2 designs and mechanics.
In all seriousness you should check Sotis Loco Cit Demigod BLC Dota Renew, before making sarcastic remarks against HoN devs. S2 manage their games superbly, haven't left either of their games in buggy states or with unbalanced versions.
Moba wise they destroy the competition.

@bushzzz Well not to reign on your parade. S2 have some of the most serious client issues I've ever encountered in a moba. I've had to reinstall that game countless times. Not to mention S2 has done the dirty with some Riot designs as well.
Moba wise they don't have enough draw for new players due to community issues (most of them just being whiners) and their match making system is a load of crap.
I still play it as it is a fun game and the server doesn't overload at christmas.

@deathspade42 You do understand that hon was essentially dota 2 when it was made, and it was supposed to be. Some of the dota devs decided, hey, we should team up with S2 games and make our exact same game, but with much needed features(concede vote, reconnect timer, etc.) and give it way better graphics. IceFrog, the head developer i guess, had no problem with this.
Why originality is so highly esteemed is beyond me. On a side note, over half the current roster is 'S2' heroes.

I personally think it's fucking annoying to have to buy all the heroes, which is why I'm happy I bought my HoN account before they changed it. And as you might have realised now, I do play HoN (which I actually said in the first post), and I actually enjoy HoN more than LoL. This does not (due to popular belief) mean that I must hate LoL.
