Honestly, this is the best QOTSA album, this and EV, they're fucking nailing it all to something solid, and EV i think is the best one after, it's a bugged out , freaked up, QOTSA, ssomething different, a grower, the more listens the more zombified you get by it's efffects, dude QOTSA rules rock n roll.
@loosegoose999 I totally agree. Their first and last are their best albums, not only for the songs but the flow of the albums. I still love all of the albums though.
This was recorded in Seattle Washington at Iron Wood Studio. Vic the stick on Drums. Van Conner on Bass and Chris Goss producing. Johnny was there hanging out and got drunk.
i think your lyrics are wrong. instead of "you blow my mind cause your so pretty girl;those long long days of no escaping" I think it's "you know my mind can get so crazy; those long long days just make it hazy" your lyrics might be right by qotsa studio standards. but this is the split ep of qotsa/kyuss and there are two versions of this song. i could be wrong but i'm just playing it by ear
@freelancefiend66 It's all queens....a guy that posted before me was the one that was trying to make a distinction between 'real' and not real queens...whatever that means.
does anyone know where the split ep version of Born to Hula is? its from this same EP that they shared with Kyuss? ive seen it on youtube but i dont see it anymore
@lebowskithebig there's this version, the version on the QotSA album, and theres another version on the QotSA rarities album. you might of heard the rarities version.
If you like QOTSA and Eagles Of Death Metal and Dave Grohl...... then check out them crooked vulchers album comes out his month nov17th. It's awesome!
@themisseslink I think it's awesome they got John Paul Jones from fucking Led Zeppelin to join them. They're the closest thing to a true superband we've had in a long time.
@sdhjtge I meant it's not DIRECTLY related to Kyuss. QOTSA in itself is related to Kyuss because of Josh... We could even go deeper into the subject and suppose that such abstract and philosophical topics as the Genesis of the Universe, the unnecessary presence of olives on pizzas or Jersey Shore are related to Kyuss.
@Johnathangriffin22 you're right, there are two versions, both of them by QOTSA, though. This version is on the Kyuss/QOTSA split EP. It's also on their first album "Queens of the stone age", under the shortened title "If only" which is also on youtube, but this won't let me post the link)
if you ask me the biggest difference between them is the name :)
i like to listen to this when i'm in the mood for some "spiders and vinegaroons" or kyuss' cover of black sabbath's "into the void." thanks for the post.
overall i prefer the other version but occasionally i'll be more in the mood for this one. it's more raw and rough than the one on their self titled which is why i like it better at times, but also why i prefer the one on "queens" most of the time. the other is kind of rough but in a nice crisp and clean way, if that makes any sense to you.
Never heard this version before (or was aware it was on this rare EP). Interesting, but the debut album version is the better version for sure. Still thanks for posting!
One of QotSA's only good songs. Their music on this split with kyuss is good because it has josh homme on vocals and still retains most of the musical style of kyuss that made it so good. Later QotSA stuff is just too soft for me.
It's not pop at all...it's still very much Desert rock. ... I find it hard that pop songs would include alot of psychedelic influence with Dark Melodics.
It ain't pop, neither desert rock (you can tell Kyuss was desert rock, but QOTSA?). Imo QOTSA have made their own unique sound over the years, which will probably evolve on the next album.
I can't really define what kind of music they're doing now, but you know, Homme never messes with that...
shit! i'd never heard this version before. it's fucking awesome. love the different solo and fuzzier guitar effect. this is like a properly stoner rock version of the qotsa song. well done for the posting this vid!
No, it's out of print and probably won't be re-released. The QOTSA album is also out of print but should be released again (with rare bonus tracks it would be amazing).

@Heuh999 nothing to do with kyuss?? but its on the same record as 3 kyuss songs, bro?

@sdhjtge That, "bro", is the purpose of a split EP. Two different artists on one CD. Hence the designation "split".
