  • there's a speck of this song that fits my mother, and i should know

wonder if this song inspired whoever named thestreetthatigrewupon "Shady Lane", a tinylittle street paved ten years before i was born.

  • loving this

  • awesome song

  • released on the eve of the rock & roll movement, I love this song. Only wish I was old enough to remember it when it was new. With the uptempo songs from these guys and Perry Como was coming out with, its no wonder that rock & roll was about to give birth. These guys simply helped usher it in. (last I heard 3 of the Ames' were still alive)

  • This song was on Dancing With The Stars. Whoever the singer was, he did not do justice to it. He was very out of tune. Nothing like the Ames Brothers !

  • @Rustina61 I second that. I heard this version back in 1954. (Don't figure out my age, LOLOLOLOLOLOL, but have a Happy Thanksgiving).

  • @Juliaflo Happy Thanksgiving to you also, keep listening to the great songs !

  • This is a delightful vintage song. The real "cute" part is the punchline at the end.

  • @calmaven1

I agree.---and once you get to the punchline, all of the 'naughty' stuff takes on new meaning. Classic work of genius!

  • ...Wow. This song, along with "You, You, You" were my favorite of 1954. Puts a lump in my throat.

  • I've had this stuck in my head all day. lol

  • This hit by The Ames Brothers hit #3 on 3 of Billboards charts back in 1955: Disk Jockey, Best Seller, and Juke Box charts. It would come in at #26 for the year of 1955. 1955; the year that the music industry changed forever. On July 9, 1955, Bill Haley and His Comets hit #1 with Rock Around the Clock, signifying the start of the Rock Era.

  • WOW!!!!!i could not believe this old song would be here.my older brod who has long gone, and i used to sing this, with me doing the boom broomboomboom . i love this. thanks.

  • My mom told me this song was popular when I was born and was a huge hit with my parents and all their friends as a result!

  • Frankie Layne had a good version as well.

  • This song is my first memory of this wonderful world, my Father listened to it several times from black records, and I enjoyed it from my cradle! I never forget it! My Dad is 23 years ago dead..., but this song the same way as He is eternal...Yolanda!

  • This is the version I grew up listening to, thanks to dear ol' dad! What memories.

  • Oh my...what a wonderful memory. I use to listen to this wonderful song with my mother. This song makes me feel like she is right here again, by my side.

  • Me oh my what a girl!

  • my parents loved the oldies, I grew up listening to these songs! <333 i'm 15 and even though I love rap, R&B, and the rest, I still enjoy these classic songs.

  • I heard a version that endend "She's respectable, uite delectable; ... She's a brand new baby girl!"q

  • i have a different version on a 78 rpm with 6 different songs by 6 different people

  • I wasn't born in the 50s but I got to know this song through my father's RCA album. Very amusing and salty ( naughty like the little lady himself, hee hee...) as the humor of then used to be!! Thanks a lot for posting!!

  • My barbershop choir and I sing this song :D

  • Another one of those old 78's, Dad brought home that I found on YT.

  • The Naughty Lady Of Shady Lane - The Ames Brothers [Malden, Massachusetts] - No.03 on 11/20/1954. 15 weeks Top 40. - "Gold hit. AMG Pick. I remember hearing this song on the radio and most 'Old Farts' will say the same. Dean Martin covered the song in 1955." - The Very Best Of The Ames Brothers (Taragon)-1998.

  • Songs that everyone could sing along with.. sighs..

  • GR8 memories from the 'baby boomer' generation of the 50s & 60s. Thanks for adding this for others to enjoy in this 'digital revolution'. Radio station KAAM in D/FW plays a lot of the old standards such as this. Listen online at kaamradio/com for many more of this genre.

  • This was popular when I was six years old. I thought it was really neat since my grandparents' names were Mabel and Tom. I was never entirely sure that part of the song wasn't about them! So much fun.

  • My mother had this album and I remember playing this song over and over . . .

Thank you so much for sharing it so i could hear it once again.

  • Peter Alexander sang dieses Lied 1955 "Das süße Mädi, das Fredi liebt"

  • This song is great!! and I love another song " ISTANBUL", so please up load.

  • To think. The "Naughty Lady" would now be in her 50's!

  • I was born in the 50's and my mom used to play this song on the piano and sing the lyrics frequently, when we were kids. As a young child, I never caught on to the "she's only 9 days old", and as much as I enjoyed the melody, I was frightened of that naughty lady. What a relief!!!

I really enjoyed this video. It brought back memories.

  • love this catchy tune

  • MY LAST NAME IS AMES

  • @legorocks4256 me too!

  • A true classic if there ever was one, and a great cha cha! These guys were super.

  • i live on shady lane but im a dude

  • SPOILER SPOILER SPOILER

I have always if the Naughty Lady of Shady Lane was the love child of Mable and Tom?

  • Still sounds as good as it did in the 50's. Love it.

  • Very good harmony. Lol. its fun to listen to.

  • LOL, the minor to major in this shady tune along with the boom boom booms totally cracks me up! I love it!! ******

  • Dear Ida,

    Delicious! Thanks for the send!

Great old tune and I hadn't heard it for years!

    RJM Tom

  • I'd never heard it before...it should be the theme song to "Desperate Housewives"!

  • They would have to change the lyric at the end about being "only 9 days old."

But, yeah, I think it would work!

  • Yeah, that was a shocking ending...there is another vid with baby pics that I sent to my daughter with the baby...teehee

  • @idasynco I cannot begin to count the times I heard this when I was growing up.

(Uh-uh, don't even THINK about figuring out my age, LOLOLOLOL).

  • Outstanding song and excellent harmony.

  • I have really enjoyed reading all your great comments today, please keep them coming!

  • Grew up with Dean's. Much prefer this.

  • I haven't heard his, but I grew up with this one since an oldies station I heard as a child played it constantly!
