  • The word DIDDY is just a slang word for small.

  • Great stuff from Doddy. The Diddymen were great and a laugh as well. They dont make em like that anymore. Keep on rocking, Doddy

  • Who pay no tax

  • Every time I search for the Diddy Men all I ever find is those damn kids dressed up AS the Diddy Men, not the puppets I remember as a kid!

Is there no surviving footage of the real thing?

  • @RocksterOO1 There's got to be somewhere, tell me when you find it mate

  • @Rikkyhardo Likewise! :)

  • @Rikkyhardo It's more than possible the BBC in its wisdom erased the tapes like they did with so many other shows of the era, like Dr Who.

  • @RocksterOO1 That's what I wondered. Theyused to be on telly on Sunday afternoons butthere is no footage of them

  • Happy memories of BBC radio comedy

  • Great. Just Great. One of our seminal comedians....

  • Saw them in Blackpool in 1971-happy memories.Thank you for posting this.

  • @TAMWORTHFAN Think it must have been the same time I saw them, thin Bob Monkhouse was on the same bill or the following night. Happy memories

  • Kinda like the Are You Being Served of Bobbleheads.

  • They use to frighten the living daylights out of me, i remember it was about 35-36 years ago, i think it was the puppet thing that did my head in, used to go to bed shit scared. lol

  • i might be moving to foodiash which the name is close to knottyash

  • Mick the Marmaliser, Wee Hamish, Nigel Ponsonby-Smallpiece - I was very young but used to love the TV show - they used to freak me out but at the same time I loved them. I still have an LP somewhere....

  • I remember the show on Sunday afternoons. There was a pedestrian crossing with the button that was supposed to stop the trafiic lights, but it said "Press For Diddymen"

  • Geeze, i'm not old enough to remember them-even know who the hell they are- but i like! :) it is a lill annoying, though...

  • THis is fantastic , one of the best ... and as a member of the McKinnon clan , I am proud to say that.

  • Yep - 'Diddy Man' memorabilia must be sought after by someone on ebay... but who anywhere still has the famous1989 Private Eye cover with "Ken Dodd's Diddle-Men"? That was a hit, appearing in UK accountants' and even Inland Revenue offices!

  • Being Scottish I liked Hamish. I loved it in the episode where the Diddymen get attacked by Diddy fireflies he comes out of his house and says "Oh, my kilt's on fire".

  • Ken Dodd was the creator who made the Diddymen in his own image. Listening to this I can recognise Ken Dodd's voice sped up.
