  • great culture! we came from earth, we go back to earth.. im proud to be Turk

and greetings to you noble people of Erzurum!

  • is there a women's division?

  • @hellofaname ofcourse no. thyis is traditional . in history women didnt wrestle. it is masculine and a men job. and also muslim women cant show thier body in front of an audience including men.

  • Very Celtic, very tribal. I loved the start where they give honour to the Earth. We come from the Earth we go back to the Earth. Very interesting culture.

  • @RichardPears

yes, actually its a interesting notion, coming/returning to the earth.

it was actually a belief of shamanistic turks of central asia, yet islam they converted in have taught the same notion later on.

  • This is a great segment for anyone who loves this type of wrestling . The action is shown very clearly and I wish Rick had made a longer film of just the Turkish wrestlers.

  • yes, really fun!

  • the lady next to you is so sweet, i really liked her but she gives some wrong knowledges. It's just oil wrestling. In Turkish there's no meaning for 'oil grass wrestling'. we dont use grass word.

this kind of wrestling don't come from central asia. yeah, Turks used to wrestle in central asia days but this kind of wrestling is invented in Anatolia at 13 th centrury.

beside that it seems she studied well :)

  • i ill be in Turky next June. is it ok to visit and see these guys training?

  • Why shouldn't it be OK?

  • @miregrc In some villages the training is kept secret from outsiders so wrestlers from rival villages don't see it.

At least, this was the case in Macedonia, when i was doing research.

  • This is a beautiful ancient sport. The camera close ups were good- too bad that the segment could not have been longer but oil wrestling was not the only topic of this travel film.

  • Thank you for the video Im living in Istanbul but all of my family is from Erzurum.
