  • what's depth of field. you said it like a billion times but i dont know what it is

  • @Mrawesomeball if you put your two hands parallel to each other, picture your subject to be in between your two hands and everything in between them is in focus and everything else, isnt. now depth of field basically means how blurry or not in focus the background or foreground can get when shooting a scene. so when people say they have a shallow depth of field your hands would then be closer together thus decreasing the focus range. when its wide then your hands are far apart. hope this helped!

  • Hey what zeiss lens is at 3:30?

  • @gteam2 Those are the Distagon lenses. They're relatively cheap for what they are so it's excellent value. The lens case with 5 primes costs about 5500 euros.

  • USE YOUR CAPS! THE SENSORRRR! :O :O

  • @james07jamesjames its not really a problem

  • How come you never have your caps on?

  • WTF? HDSLR? HDDSLR would be right.

  • Ok, I have a question. I saw a video, where the shot was of traffic on a road, and the focus seemed to be about 75 meters out with only about a 20 meter focal tolerance, and it gave the image a minute feeling, like the road was a miniature model. Anything within 50 meters and beyond 75 meters was blurry. Do you know how that effect was made? Was that a lens or editing effect?

  • @ChristopherJManess It's called "Tilt Shift" If you google tilt shift, you'll find many examples. There are special tilt shift lenses to achieve this effect and there are some instances where this effect can be done in post production too.

  • @shonky Thank you, so much!

  • I love Zeiss lenses but I only use Canon primes:

    24mm f1.4, 35mm f1.4, 50mm f1.2, 135mm f2.0, 70-200mm f2.8.

It's tough when deciding between Canon or Zeiss I just love the Canon lenses. But if you do use a follow focus, Zeiss if prob the way to go because of the slip on the Canon.

  • very usful info, thanx very much!!!

  • Thanks for the video! There is a lot of discussion about UV filters because of the already build in UV filtering features of many high end cameras and why buy good glass and put poor glass infront of it?

  • @HiDefKing Very true but I still put a filter on my lenses because I would rather scratch a $100 filter than my $2000 lens. They should make a scratch proof lens. lol.

  • $25,000 for zeiss...

  • What is the best Carl Zeiss lens to use for shooting low light and fast moving action.

  • The 18-55 is horrible by all means*

  • if you use a filter doesn't it reduce the quality

  • Great! Just what i need. I'm getting my 5D tomorrow and probably going to get the higher end lens as well.

  • Your intros are always so corny. Its really funny :P

  • Wait....can you repeat everything you just said?

  • I looked up prices for the Zeiss CP.2 Compact Prime 7-Lens Set. My jaw actually dropped.

  • why does he always wear the same jacket? ha

  • you feed my mind and you have touched my heart i love you guys no homo!

  • 0:55

  • thanks for the info!

  • huh? canon has a 105mm macro???

  • Carl Zeiss lenses are soooo expansive... :/

  • Don't get the 24-70mm F.28L!! The ef-2 17-55mm f2.8 IS is cheaper, sharper, wider and has Imagine Stabilization!

  • How are the Nikon lens for follow focus?

  • @ngvgnDOTcom Nikon lenses focus the other way around than canon.

Anything else : go out and try it :)

  • @KeckerErt But Nikon lens have the same problem like Canon for follow focus?

  • Didn't learn anything from this. Too basic.

  • i am gonna have to admit, this i thought was the least helpful video so far as most of the info here i knew already

  • how much colour correction goes into your vids

  • very helpful guys. but what are the pros and cons of using a 'macro tube'?

  • @RoathRipper pros: you can focus closer, cons: you loose the ability to focus to infinity.

  • cheesy jokes but good info

  • amazing, as always learned a lot, thanks! :)

  • Love this series eventhough i don't even have a Dslr. But once i do get one, i'll know where exactly to come to learn everything i need to know!!!!!!!

  • @Mr3ibss I'm in same boat as yours. Tony you rock, so does DSLR 101.

  • @Mr3ibss Go get a 550D ASAP!

  • @powntus94 600d is better

  • @bouchandre I disagree. 550D with Magic Lantern is better.

  • @johnjohansson 600d is the new t3i. Almost same price, manual control, swivel Lcd. Yes it's better

  • @johnjohansson have you used it? I am quite nervous to put it on my camera for fear of bricking it...

  • @grahamulax I'm using it and I love it! Focus peaking is very useful! You won't believe how many useful functions it will add to your camera! :-) The only thing that I miss from the 600D is the swivel lcd and the crop zoom function.

  • @johnjohansson awesome! yeah that swivel is very nice to have but not worth the upgrade I think at this moment. Focus peaking hmmm I'll have to look into that more! I think I'll try it out tonight! Just got to find a good tutorial so I won't brick this thing

  • @grahamulax Just search for magic lantern t2i install ;-) I think it's pretty safe, but there is no warranty that it's 100% safe. Stay away from newer builds if you want to be sure :-)

  • @johnjohansson wow, yeah I installed it that night and I'm so glad I did. There is no way I can ever go back now! I gotta get a faster memory card though to change the bit rate higher otherwise it just overloads all the time haha. This is GREAT
