A & P's.....The KEY to success is to ascertain "General Familiarizations" for different aircraft's. Once you have Gen Fam's under your belt it gives you options. I suggest getting your FCC (Element 1 & 3) ASAP. Now the truth be told is you have a "Good Ol Boy Network" to deal with and IF you're of color, you'll have to deal with racsim. *It's NOT true to pay your due's.....you already PAID them by going to school! This "pay your due's" is a COP OUT of professionalism and why the industry SUCKS.
@GlobalishlyGoonish Im not a forklift mechanic anymore. Iv been tech ops for almost 10 years now. Iv seen guys with 30 years experience scatter when they hear they need to do a wiring job.
I couldn't get a job out of A&P school. I became a forklift mechanic just to get some experience. Now im 4 years as an A&P. Believe it or not, i learned more as a forklift mechanic then as an A&P.
Where are you at? In Georgia we got Pratt & Whitney, Boeing, Lockheed Martin, Timco, Delta, Warner Robins, Gulfstream, Epps Aviation.... Some big name shit, all hiring like crazy...
TAKE A LOT OF PICTURES...are you serious.......wow this guy is a moron.its called a maintenance manual dumb shit...learn how to read it..........it even comes with pictures........ small jet mech are tards.....try fixing a dam jet liners like a 747
@awa319 some maintenance manuals dnt have illustrations MORON. they give you steps. so it is good to take pictures so you know were everything goes and u can give to the other shift for reference . if u are a mechanic you are not so good at it.
i disliked this because... firstly, this guys attitude towards pilots and operators is obviously beneath him... he detracts credit from a pilot and gives it to an engineer for the aircraft surviving a flock of geese when it's all a fair share. Also the way he knocked a $25k carpet in a private aircraft.. get in touch with reality... dude.
It's a well known fact that there's projected to be more than twice as many planes in the air, than there are now, in 10 years. I don't know where you guys work or live, but everytime I turn my head there's aviation businesses hiring. I'm a senior in high school, and is in a mechanic's program at Vincinnes. and there's always job openings posted on our bulletin board. I've talked to many people that make over $100,000 dollars a year.
@pshaggy8 I was in the USAF 4 years as an aerospace propulsion apprentice (jet mechanic). Pay isn't that great in the beginning. Paygrade is strictly by rank regardless if you are an airplane technician or a kitchen boy throwing together sandwiches for the flight crew. As you move up in rank, so does your pay. If you get married, you BAQ BAS to live off base. The real payoff is finding a job when you get out as a civilian, but be sure to get an A&P. Military does not hand out A&Ps.
so i just got my A&P mechanic license and i've been applying everywhere but no1 seems to be hiring. Everywhere i look they want a minimum of 3-5 years experience... Well how in the hell do i get exp. if no1 will hire me in the first place!!!
@MJD809 Just for A&P tech school i did 18 months of school, m-f 4:00pm-10:00pm. I had a job too so, it kicked my ass. But it was worth it, I recently got hired on @ Tinker AFB in OKC rebuilding inboard ailerons for the KC-135's. They're hurting for sheetmetal mechanics and they are going to hire about 750 more ppl.
@TEUFELHuNDEN420 I've often wondered the same thing! It makes no sense. I guess they want you to volunteer you're time or something-that's the only thing I can come up with! HA My husband was wanting to do the same thing as you, I'm glad you said that, b/c now we may think twice! Where'd you go to school? I've heard, too, no offense to them, that the "baby boomers" are having to work so long since they overspent, that its leaving no room for new comers.
Just received my A&P from MIAT and the pay isn't gonna matter cuz I've worked at every shit job on the market and if I can just not fuckin hate my job I'll be more than happy .... NO SHIT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
@shietalkr My husband and i are in the same position. We've been working low-paying jobs, and he wants to do this type of work. Anyone here know if Reedley College's aviation mechanic program is any good? Just curious, he;s interested in theirs
its not always about the money I work for bell in Amarillo, TX. I make 48,000 a year and am totally happy with that. Its all about loving what you do for a living and being excited to get up and actually going to work. Before this job I was a rough neck in the oil fields in Oklahoma. I hated that job and now I have been doing what Iove to do for 6yrs now.
@ch1ngons1mon is it AD or AM? and good luck because the navy fucking sucks now days, is not like it was before 9/11. if you are in the delayed entry porgram and have not gone to boot camp yet, do not get stationed on a ship, try to get a squadron.
After reading some of these comments i don't think i want to be a aircraft mechanic. Sounds like one of those jobs that look good but are really a piece of shit.
Actually it looks fun. But you're right i shouldn't take career advice from people on youtube. Then again if they really are aircraft mechanics they'd know what they're taking about. Right?
SledHeadNE are you an imbred hick. $35 an hour still isn't jack shit compared to what an automotive mechanic makes. My friends went to school for aviation and is now working on trains he started at $30/hour so figure that out. I have copies of all agreements for all airlines and actually $36 is the high end, unless you work for UPS or FEDex
@skyhawk76 It depends where you live. $35 is damn good money in places around the US where the cost of living isn't high. In places like California, New York, Florida... yes, $35 would be like minimum wage.
i work for usairways ya you start at 16 but you get an extra $1.50 for each certificate held plus shift differential so you start at 22 an hour you max out at 35 an hour. and thats the lowest paying airline for mechanics but shit i know plenty of kids i grew up with who went to 4 year schools who arent makin shit.
20.27 an hour and I have a Bachelors of Science in Aviation Maintenance Technology and am 1/4 done a Masters in Aeronautics and still stuck on the floor. Its not the money it the lack of education above me.
I have an A&P license and Bachelors of Science. Now working on a Masters Degree and the surrendering of my A&P license. This industry sucks, pay suck no matter where you go. I could make $25/hr cleaning toilets. Get out while your still ahead.
im graduating in may with my associates in AMT just to get into in maintenance for a short time till im able to finish my b.a degree. its a dead end job for people who only want to get a&p licenses and who are satisfied with only doing that. this type field could pay min. wage for all i care and i would still go into it. im quite sure with the right company with a aas, ba and faa license, im could get into mgmt if i realy know my shit and make some calls and run shit. its about running shit.
i know a&p mechanics who you can say came from poor families, and now with well over $100K in their savings accounts, drive nice cars, dress well, spend time with loved ones, have traveled to more than 50 locations in the world with family , two which are managers are major airlines, and they are ages 24-27.
There is really no limit in the field. Its not about the money, its about loving your field and having the desire to learn every single day because every single day is different.
I'm a graphic designer who has never made more than $35K a year. It's a good wage money a single person can live on if they're not stupid with money. I admire people who know how to fix stuff and who take pride in their work.

sounds like you got dealt a shitty hand and decided to quit. Times are hard right now but it gives the profession a chance to cull out all the people who really don't want to be there. If you stick around and make yourself valuable to whatever employer you can get you can still work up to a great fulfilling career. Its all about learning your systems or perfecting your trade...do this and someone will always be willing to pay you
22 years as an AMT at United. It's been good to me as I can own my own home and support my family. It has been up & down, union contracts, midnight shifts, rotating days off, working hollidays, but I wouldn't trade the experience for the world. Where else would I have been trusted with millions of dollars as when I run and taxi these airplanes. I can't say this is a good time to get into this type of work. The major airlines would love to get rid of us and send our work overseas.
@ApolloMusician Same here. If one loves aviation and the interworkings of any man-made machine, this is the path.
Even though i had to understand the burden and responsibilities by the fact that lives are dependant on our quality of work and competence, it's still gives me an ultimate sense of accomplishment that we can made these things defy gravity and bring our world together, and safely.
@helljumpr5150 I wish there were more people like you in the business. I know too many to whom the job is just a job. To me and to some close friends, aviation is a passion. Keep doing what you love, and keep spreading the proverbial word, because the industry needs more young people involved with aviation. Whenever I see the older generation putting on a summer camp, or a class for young people to bring them into aviation it always brings a smile to my face.
Oh by the way, this industry is outsourcing. As you see the guy who mainly work in these industries now are outsource to asia. Particularly phillipines and other subcontinents. This is done to avoid heavy cost and so they can bypass the U.S. mandated regulations.
@Zenome turkey india middle east malaysia china working for 5 dollars an hour on heavy checks and driving western countries maintenance to starvation
even airbus is outsourcing for production work fucking shame !
Think about this, 20-30k for the school training, + 3-10k investment in tools, then when you are an 'entry-level' you are paid near minimum salary. Good luck earning your way up, by the time you did, you would have saved way more money going to college. Your cousn is a douche if they tell you to go.
I busted my ass through them 16-24 month program. They are almost 6-7 hours a day. Not to mention travel, then getting the license itself. In the end, the responsibilities you must uptake and the fact that you must do it fast is not worth the money. Everyone in this field is trying to get a way out. Do not waste your money into thinking you will make money in this field, it is not the right field for you.
its a great job, 3 of my cousins are aircraft mechanics, they told me its really hard to get there but when you get used to the job, you will have no problem, i just need years of experience that's all
So if I tell you, hey dude, I'll pay you 10$ +2 cents (for your worthless license) because you went through 24 months of training. Oh and if you make a mistake and forgot to safety wire the bolts and someone dies, I'm going to blame it on you. I'll even team up with the FAA so they prosecute and send you to jail. You like an idiot, would jump on this opportunity. Think about it twice now... (They pay +15-20$ hourly 20 years ago for entry levels).
15 to 20$ shit, get real man, try 10 to 15 and guys with 15 yrs exp are hoping on it just to have a job.
GET THE FUCK OUT AND DO SOMETHING ELSE !!! IVE PERSONALLY SEEN MECHANICS FUCK UP AND GET THEIR LICENSE SUSPENDED OR TAKEN AWAY! THEY GET AN LOI IN THEIR FAA FILE THAT NEVER COMES OUT! THEYRE LUCK THEYRE NOT IN JAIL!
ITS ALWAYS THE COCKY ONES THAT WIND UP FUCKING UP I SWEAR !
Courses? you have a heartbeat? YO TOO CAN BE AN AIRCRAFT MECHANIC!
Seriously, not a fucking major airline is hiring, us guys with 15+ years exp have to revert back to the regionals to get a 15$ hour job and take a 15$ hr paycut !!!
You get your license, and youlss be polishing hubcaps on cesnas for 15 years.
Again Seriously, go into the medical field for xray tech, ultrasound, surgical tech.
@FuckAnPWorkAtBurgerK so sadly true dude i know so many guys fed up with aviation after 15 years spending MONEY for training and approval ,being treated like a monkey in hangars everywhere in europe ..dealing with toxic chemicals ,.being stuck at a phone for days expecting a call for a contract i realized that i was fucking up my life then i switched to medical hardware now work is meaningful and i can drive my kid to school .daily .......
your right dude, im a aircraft mechanic too.. its very hard job bcouz its our responsibility to keep the airplanes and the people onboard goes to its destination safely
do you like what you do? i originally wanted to be a pilot but i dont have the money for the schooling and my grades have never been spectacular so ive always thought about being a mechanic.
yes , i love what i do... if you like to be a pilot go here in the philippines and study here to become a pilot then after that just convert it to your license. it is much cheaper here to study..
Oh yeah, your grades suck so you want to be an aircraft mechanic? real fucking smart genious. Sounds like your be a C check rat removing and replacing seats for your career if u get into this.
The industry itself does not treat the workers in any positive way, how do you expect to be positive if you get treated negatively? Seriously, there is no future in aviation, unless you want to clean toilets that's probably more lucrative then A&P mechs.
HI , what do you guys think of Aviation Australia to do an Aircraft maintenance course?
Thanks

I busted my ass through them 16-24 month program. They are almost 6-7 hours a day. Not to mention travel, then getting the license itself. In the end, the responsibilities you must uptake and the fact that you must do it fast is not worth the money. Everyone in this field is trying to get a way out. Do not waste your money into thinking you will make money in this field, it is not the right field for you.

yeah but if your actually good. you make great money! hahahahah ass

formosamafia 2 years ago
@Zenome it cost me 50000 bucks for a B1 part 66 european license with 3type rating now i barely get 14 dollars an hour as a permanent certifying mech
only contracting can get you a decent wage but being stuck on the phone for days wainting work is it a decent life ?

2007killa 3 years ago
Don't be an aircraft mechanic, whoever told you to should slap them slaves.
Zenome 3 years ago
why?
its a great job, 3 of my cousins are aircraft mechanics, they told me its really hard to get there but when you get used to the job, you will have no problem, i just need years of experience that's all

Zenome 3 years ago
FuckAnPWorkAtBurgerK 2 years ago
Courses? you have a heartbeat? YO TOO CAN BE AN AIRCRAFT MECHANIC!
Seriously, not a fucking major airline is hiring, us guys with 15+ years exp have to revert back to the regionals to get a 15$ hour job and take a 15$ hr paycut !!!
You get your license, and youlss be polishing hubcaps on cesnas for 15 years.
Again Seriously, go into the medical field for xray tech, ultrasound, surgical tech.
THOSE JOBS ARE IN DEMAND! not this shit
100,000 mechanics layed off right now WITH EXP.
FuckAnPWorkAtBurgerK 2 years ago
@FuckAnPWorkAtBurgerK so sadly true dude i know so many guys fed up with aviation after 15 years spending MONEY for training and approval ,being treated like a monkey in hangars everywhere in europe ..dealing with toxic chemicals ,.being stuck at a phone for days expecting a call for a contract i realized that i was fucking up my life then i switched to medical hardware now work is meaningful and i can drive my kid to school .daily .......
cosmojairzinho14 1 year ago

do you like what you do? i originally wanted to be a pilot but i dont have the money for the schooling and my grades have never been spectacular so ive always thought about being a mechanic.
cntckl 3 years ago
yes , i love what i do... if you like to be a pilot go here in the philippines and study here to become a pilot then after that just convert it to your license. it is much cheaper here to study..
jenaldb 3 years ago
ooo im filipino. and yes its cheaper there to go college =D
WaZzUpp95 3 years ago
Oh yeah, your grades suck so you want to be an aircraft mechanic? real fucking smart genious. Sounds like your be a C check rat removing and replacing seats for your career if u get into this.
FuckAnPWorkAtBurgerK 2 years ago
I actually interviewed with that company. Hopefully I go to their Savannah facility.
Addio1001 3 years ago
Your job sucks lol! I went to school and wasted my 16 months for a worthless 'A&P' card.
Zenome 3 years ago
why does it suck, they make alot of money
humantestdummy 3 years ago
They don't make that much money anymore, that was back in the old days, now they don't even make anywhere near the average car mechanic.
Zenome 3 years ago
how come you are so nagative with A&P mechanic career?
formosamafia 2 years ago
The industry itself does not treat the workers in any positive way, how do you expect to be positive if you get treated negatively? Seriously, there is no future in aviation, unless you want to clean toilets that's probably more lucrative then A&P mechs.
Zenome 2 years ago
so may I ask where you work and much do you make an hour now? thank you for share your idea!
formosamafia 2 years ago
what a cock bite...
TravisNeal 3 years ago 3
