@MrSheissen1 Think fire ban. You are allowed to cook on a stove but not on an open fire. This is not an open fire. You will still be able to eat a hot meal.
@MountainManD I was out using it again today. Its the best part of the world famous cook kit. Thanks for the comment and let us know how your version turns out.
@zane000000000 Its a DIY. project. We have built three of them now. The prototype in the video and two identical stove setups. This stove forms the main part of the World Famous Cook Kit. Also a DIY project. We have plans for the stove available from our website. We put a link for you in the description.
@mryellow123 You know your wood burning stoves. To burn wood the pot stands need to be up as high as they can go to allow good air flow. Using the lowest setting, everthing else the same, produces lots of smoke and slows down the burn.
@EconoChallenge Mine is kinda "top-lit up draft" from an old wide thermos from rubbish tip. Inner + outer sleeves with hacksaw blades through slots which holds and lock everything in place. Then a 10" coffee can on top as combination pot-stand/flue. Have a kinda "door" in the flue for loading more fuel on top if need be. Each can fits inside the other so they pack down ok.
The small gap between the inner/outer seems ok but yours is much more open.
@mryellow123 Randyhood is working on a version similar to your description that would fold down flat. So far now luck but we work very very slowly. He is trying to find a way to beat the design in this video. Competion between us keeps the ideas flowing. Thanks for your contribution. It all gets mixed in there!
@EconoChallenge I'm not well equiped for playing with metal but an idea that might just be perfect is a folding design like the "vargo wood stove". I imagine something like the vargo but with 2 of them at different sizes one within the other, so it can get the wood gas going. (vargo smokes like hell from what i've seen)
@Letyposas Would it help if I mentioned the batteries are rechargeable? The idea helps nature by giving you a fire to cook on without the fire pit. Leave no trace so that the next person can enjoy the wild without a fireplace scar. You make a good point about the batteries. Thanks for watching.
great video , only prob i see is being fire safe . stoves on a rock surrounded by fuel ie leaves etc . if one cleared like 5 feet clearance around stove ,, forest fires etc ,,
@calarea47 You are right on the money. This stove is super lite even when full of wood. It can easlily be blown over with a stiff wind gust. Never leave your stove unattended. Thanks for watching.
I love your stove. this is a convination of hobo stove and a rocket stove because the tunnel. can a have your permission and teach this stove on mi stove building classes? I have a camping on four weeks more, and this is a economical way to have a good stove for my people.
I do remember seeing this. I guess I didn't comment because I liked another style of wood stove, something along Hiram Cooks version of the wood stove. This certainly looks less bulky, though, and would seemingly take up less room in a pack. I think you've got a great idea here. Its facinating how many versions of the same thing can be made with a little imagination. Good for you guys. Best to ya and thanks for sharing with us all those great ideas. Appreciate cha.
@slodeth5 Thank you. The bonus for us is that the core of this hobo fits perfectly in the World Famous Cup which just happens to be the pot Ggreenvideos demonstrated as part of his World famous Kook Kit. We have been refining this little tool ever since. I think we will be posting another video over the winter as we play with it some more. YouTube has been the best thing we ever did to help us get out into the wild!
@abrotechsystems Yes. The longer you wait to use the stove the less soot accumulates on your pot. Using hardwood rather than pine, spruce or cedar helps also. A hobo stove full of hot coals rather than flaming sticks is ideal. But you are still going to have soot.
@medicjimr Thank you. Still cooking with the old stove. Have not used the shinny new one yet. Maybe we should have a contest and send it out as a prize.
I was trying to make one of these but I tried to make the fire on top and let it burn down. Didn't work for shite. Think I need more holes in my can too. Instead of punching them through I am gonna shootem' out
@bigsammieking We like the Shug man. See more of his stuff in "Tree Friendly Suspension System" and or most recent meal review "Denver Omelet" You are on the right track. The key to a good hobo stove is air flow.
or you can just blow into the fire. a fan won't work well at all, it's too slow and not focused. and not knowing what cheap means doesn't make you dumb, it makes you canadian. why don't you keep that orange vest on so i can find you in your yard and make fun of you to your face!
@catascouts We have been playing around for years to get one that works this well and is inexpensive to build. Now if you find a way to get the black off your pot real easy ... please let us know! Good luck with your project. It feels good when you get one that works.
You mean like clean the soot from the pot? I use a steel wool (for dish washing) and regular detergent. Or when I'm in the wild I use sand and water from a river bed.
You can carry the steel wool with u all the time (in your kit) - it gets a bad smoky smell though. :-)
I like the pellet idea. I've tried it once but I tried starting a fire using only pellets(in my bushcraft beginning). I used the same basic design for my stove as well.good luck
I have been watching Patrick's Winter Tree ID videos to help me zero in on Shagbark Hickory. I think this wood might get the boil time under 4 minutes. I think you were sitting in front of some Hickory (perhaps Iron Wood) in your "Expert" video.
I'm going to have to bring one of those handy fans with me on the AT this spring. My nose has issues with the through-hikers who enjoy a good nocturnal fart or two in the shelters. ; )
Five stars. I love it. I just a jet boil but I've been wanting to go with something that I can make my self just for that extra satisfaction. Thanks for the tip!!!

I do find a flue helps drive stoves like this though, but hard to do while keeping it so compact.
