A testament to the expertise and know-how and how-to info you will access at the Todd Rundgren Musical Survival Camp (search this topic ASAP, a few spaces remain). Todd Rundgre, Greg Hawkes, Jesse Gress, Kasim Sulton, Prairie Prince and the designers, promoters, music biz executives who have worked alongside this living rock legend (and camp leader). June 20 - 24, 2011 in the Catskills. Search the TR Musical Survival Camp.
@OneFifthNative --- If you are a fan and musician...check out the Todd Rundgren Musical Survival Camp, being held June 20 - 24, 2011 in Big Indian, NY. A few camper/lodger slots remain!
@OneFifthNative 'Bat' was recorded in 1975/76 and at that time I believe Todd was using a Fender Mustang guitar. He'd done a similar 'motorcycle guitar' sound on his own 'Little Red Lights' in 1972, based on something Jimi Hendrix used to do. Check out the Todd 'Last Ride' clip on here and you'll see the black Mustang- it sounds just like 'Bat'.
@zappstarr Hey thanks for that info zappstar, I really appreciate your input. I'd love to stay and chat but I gotta get out, gotta break it out now, before the final crack of dawn.
@WhackaJacka Karla also sang in the live shows. I saw them in 1978, and I was front row. You could hear her over the mike. She's has a hell of a voice, still.
@jkoff76 He's my ultimate idol he's just really does not care really he's a great guy too with what he says about various things now, god if I could be half of what he is!
I used to think that the sound effect was done and the guitar solo was another take. If you listen carefully, Todd does the motorcycle thing and the guitar does a metermorphosis into the guitar solo. What a genius to do it all in ONE TAKE!! Perhaps Todd IS God!!
a) I've been listening to this song for more than 30 years now and to this minute I didn't realize that wasn't a motorcycle. AMAZING.
b) Can you even imagine a genius like Jim Steinman being so imtimidated by anyone... esp. in a recording studio????!!! Just goes to show you that we're all pretty insecure at heart.
Actually, the Classic Albums DVD was a couple years before this interview. Classic Albums features not just Jim but Meat, Todd, Ellen, Karla, Rory, and Max.
OMFG!!!! This is hilarious!!! TR at his best - and Steinman admitting it??? They are BOTH the reason Meatloaf had his success!!!
