This is the best version of Dawn of the Dead originally called Zombie Dawn of the Dead, it took all the US comedy out of the movie and added more drama. Better cut scenes that the European crowd could relate to but for the US Romero used his cut of the film adding in things that would mesh his characters better with the United States style of living. Dario Argento made an absolute classic here and I'm proud to own this version on DVD.

This film changed the way I look at them. Almost too much to comment on here. I was sick and in bed for about a week, had picked this up on DVD about a year earlier and finally got around to watching it and I couldn't stop. I know it can drag on but the dialogue between characters is sharp. The "What have we done to ourselves?" quote from Fran the blonde chick about says it all. Relying on the TV for answers to our problems when we need to handle them ourselves. Not Hollywood. Masterpiece.

Before you bitch about the make-up and effects please read:

1. The zombie skin color was mostly blue/gray. The colorization of the film unintentionally made it look more blue than it actually is.

2. The color of the blood was also unintentional. Savini himself said it looked like "melted crayon" buy Romero liked it however. He said it gave the film a comic-book feel.

This movie was made on a budget of less than $700K and made $55 million worldwide. That's pretty impressive.

I need help in identifying a movie when I was young. I don't remember much of the details but in the scene what I remember to be zombies (maybe they were crazy people?) have these people under siege and they break in and chase everyone up to the last floor - and one of the people either pushed a mother and child into the zombies or throws a baby down the stairs so he can get away. Last scene I remember is zombies crossing a bridge at night with city lights visible. Anyone know of this movie?

@jazzas90000 I don't think so. I saw this as a pre teen or young teen in the late 70s early 80s so I can't be sure. All I am sure of is that the crossing into the city by what I remember as zombies was at night and this movie I have been hunting for had a scene where the zombies break in and climb the stairs and I swear I recall one of the characters either push a baby down the stairs at the zombies to get away or a mom and baby or a girlfreind and then run up the stairs. Maybe I imagined it?

When I was a kid and I rented Resident Evil and then bought Resident Evil 2 (and it even came w/ a thing saying the Resident Evil movie was coming by George Romero..which sadly was given to a hack director for less $)...I had to rent this and it was on VHS...me and friends watching it at midnight, and from there on out, I realized this (and of course the 1st in the series) started it all.

This is the most nostalgic movie I can think of...I never look at malls the same.
