Funny how I was just asking this question and here's almost all the answers. A screen suitably robust for multi-touch, gesture based gaming, like RTS. But you do need a quad HD as he says at the end. What they don't have is 4:3 format. 4096*3072 would be a much better format for a flat screen for multiple users (1 per side for example).
@UtherV Hi, thanks for your comment. Yes, Damien developed this by himself. Genius!
They are producing the table in their factory at limited quantities, but for mass production they would need to partner with a larger manufacturer, the benefit of this would be that the costs would also be significantly reduced.
@UtherV Their website states that the base unit starts at 2.42 million yen (approx. US$30,000), but this pricing may be out of date. Please contact them at tacto (at) cyberdyne (dot) jp for more information. Thanks for watching!
@blab600 The shorter 'DigInfo News' version is here: /watch?v=pM79xb4hz60
We've never uploaded a video like this before, so it's just an experiment to see what sort of response we get if we play around with the format, do you like it? Should we make more like this? Please tell us!
@pkiriakou I'm almost positive that you're right. Infrared systems should detect the shape of the hand, but they're also very processor intensive, and the more unique and distorted the shape, the more processing power will be consumed.
@pkiriakou Nope; somewhere along the middle of the video, he shows some extremely impressive, amazingly quick and accurate responses to the gestures he inputs. I'm not sure how they did it, but it's pretty awesome.

2 questions:
Did Douxchamps developed this by himself?
He mentioned Cyberdyne being a small company thus no planned mass production, but any word about actual costs?
Thank you, and thank you for the full-length interview

@Diginfonews Thanks! In your experience, is this actually a nice / proper price for a "device" like this?
UtherV 7 months ago
He should talk faster and talk to the point, not circling around and put me to sleep. But the way, the old guy should stop playing the device

@Diginfonews I don't think anyone have the time to watch this whole video.
I like 'straight to the point' videos like the other version of this video.
I respect the fact that they are the masterminds of these inventions,
but they should get someone to talk for them.
Thank You for your service and time.

why is it hard to do with another system?

doesn't it also detect the shape of the hand?
