I live in the western catskill section of upstate New York.A friend of mine from New Jersey has a few acres of land not far from me.This past spring he and his girlfriend said they heard some strange noises from the woods. They said,"Don't tell anyone but it sounds like monkeys in the woods!" Of course it turned out to be the Pileated Woodpecker and of course I had to tell people.
I saw one of those once in our front yard and heard its call. I ran inside to tell my family I'd just seen a woodpecker the size of a turkey and it honked like a goose before it flew away. They didn't believe me until they saw & heard it later! LOL Very nice footage you have.
i see tons of this species in florida and michigan......anywhere in the eastern US where there are still old/big trees with lots of insacts in/on them, youll find them.
Im 47 years old and i finally seen my first Pilated woodpecker today. Actually there were three. This was 20 miles south of St. Louis Mo. in Illinois along the top of the old Mississippi river bluffs. My brother said what kind of crazy bird call was that? Then we saw 3 huge woodpeckers fly by. It was spectacular! Ive always liked woodpeckers but ive only seen Red Headed and the small Downey woodpecker. My brother can now proclaim he's seen Woody Woodpecker!
@stomp919 i seen this bird when i was ten yrs old freinds and family always accused me of being a liar about this bird. noone beleive such a big woodpecker exist im 40 now and theyve all had to eat alot a crow thank god for youtube.
Great footage. I've only seen this bird once in the wild here in AL...Maybe I should get out more. Anyways, I stumbled across your vids b\c I wanted to learn more about aquaponics. Your summer greenhouse is amazing. Any references, books, or experiences you know of would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

@tinman842 Thanks for your reply. My uncle is a avid bird watcher and he has yet seen one. Me and my brother saw 3 at the same time! Wild!
