Wow, I've had shinsplints a few times in my life and they're painful, but I had no idea they were permanently crippling. I don't suppose any current surgical technology can do anything about them.
@superalex381 Hmmm... well speaking as a very nonprofessional medical person, the best I know how to explain it is that shin splints are the inflammation of the connective tissues beside or right behind the tibia (shin bone) as a result of repetitive stress. And though they hurt like crazy, any time I had them they healed in less than a week. And like I said, I had no idea they could be permanently crippling, but there is much I don't know. Hope this helps a little.
@superalex381 Someone in an earlier comment mentioned that Munteanu had retired because of shin splints, but that person, also, thought that was odd, because shin splints aren't chronic. They heal very quickly. The shins are the front of your leg below the knee.
awesome montage. she retired because of shin splits? why? that makes no sense, i always get shin splits but they go away. that's wierd. anyway love the montage.
Oh, and the answer is just above: she retired due to back problems.

She retired because of back problems, not shin splints.
