I used to watch this all the time when I was a kid. It makes me SUPER happy to see other people love it as much as I do! Me and my sisters always sing "clink clink, clank clank, get the money to the bank."
It brings tears to my eyes watching this film.My childhood faves too. Thanks for uploading this I will enjoy this very much.I will never forget this movie lol.
Wow I remember Losing this VHS when I was little and I could never find t. I randomly tonight thought about it. All I could remember was a boy and a donkey... So glad I tracked his down! Thanks for uploading
@Demeterkitty I know that John Pomeroy did a lot of scenes of Amos Slade, in particular 'And this time i won't miss', but I'm still searching for what in that film, Gary Goldman did. I THINK they gave him the Badger, but i'm not particularly sure. (the badger looks like a bluth design, but moves like some of Gary's animation for Banjo.)
" Small One, One don't look so blue. Somewhere a friend is waiting for you. Someone still needs you to brighten his day. There's a place for each some one. God planned it that way." :'( I always shed a tear for that song.
Anyone here remember "White Camel"? Animated film. Came out in the early 90s. It's about The Three Maji. Been trying to find a copy for years but no luck. It's really good.
Awww last time i saw that was in an old VHS, i was like 9 or 10, i didn't understand english by that time hehe, but i liked this cartoon, aww, now i understand that small one was old, and the dad cannot afford it, aww, btw im 25 now hehehe.
oh my god!!!!!i can't beleive that!!!!!!!!!i was 8-9 years old and now i'm 23!!!!thank u thank u thank u!!!!! small oneeeeeee small oneeeeeee!!!!!nice :D
Who knew that Don Bluth also is a great songwriter!? I LOVE the "Small One"-song, ever since I was probaply...3 or something! Now, I'm 24 and proud to have grown up with Bluths films!
Btw, does children watch Bluths movies now these days?
@MovieMusicBoy I'm not sure. You don't often see them for sale in the stores and everything, and I don't watch TV, so I don't know if they get "re-run". I wish they would, though; Don Bluth made some great movies.
I cry just describing this cartoon to people. I cried just watching the credits right now! I have no idea why, but this cartoon reduces me to tears INSTANTLY. I used to watch it every holiday season when I was a kid, and sob the whole way through it of course. Twenty years later and I'm no different.
Oh my goosness, I just almost cried when I foudn this and started watching it. It was my absolute favorite when i was a little girl. Thank you so much for putting this up!!!
OMG! I just cried as soon as I found this!!! it's been 20 years since I last saw it!!! Thank you!!! words cannot express how happy I am right now =)!!!
Is it true they edited the song the merchants sing because they thought it was an offensive stereotype? (The older VHS version has the full song, but I understand the DVD release has an edited version.)
m-my childhood..... this is a part of my childhood...O_O I was 4 sinse I last saw this (and I am 14 now) I am crying *sniff* I had this on vhs...but I truly lost it, thank you so much for uploading!
This is a forgotten little gem. I used to watch it every year at Christmas but unfortunately, Disney doesn't show it anymore. There was actually time in my life I thought this was just part of my imagination because I couldn't find any trace of it on Google.
@BethGoth15 i did because he also smashed banjo the woodpile cat and this other video about a cat tht wears a suit and does like performances with all these other animals...what is tht called.....i forget but ye i hit him over the head with my guitar , whih he deserved
@abbielovesoasis You mean your brother smashed a copy of Cats Don't Dance? Sheesh! That's not easy to come by these days. I was lucky to find my copy in a DVD store right before it went out of business. And he smashed Banjo, too? Why did he do this?
@abbielovesoasis Well, that sucks. Hopefully a place like eBay can yield a replacement if you want it back. If not, I know that at one point, Cats Don't Dance was uploaded on YouTube (that's how I found it in the first place).
@abbielovesoasis I hear you. I only recently rediscovered classic animation through Balto and The Secret of NIMH, and since then, I've happily snapped up several works of art that I had known from the latter years. Cats Don't Dance was an odd find; I had never given it a second glance because I thought it would be a cheap thing like The Country Bears or something. But when I randomly saw it here, I decided to give it a chance, and thank goodness; now it's one of my favorites.
@abbielovesoasis There is a mouse called Abigail in the film "Once Upon A Forest", which I own. Is that the one? If so, I thought it was a very good movie (the only one I bought without having seen it first).
@abbielovesoasis I had never heard of it until not long ago, when some people were commenting on it in a video. One thing that struck me about Once Upon A Forest and The Secret of NIMH was their profound sadness. As a kid, I never understood the darkness and emotions of those films, so rewatching them had a profound effect on me. The Fox and the Hound had a similar effect when I first returned to it.
@CaptainConnorsaurus Don Bluth left Disney just before the '80's, if I remember correctly. A featurette in the Banjo the Woodpile Cat DVD said the last project Disney was working on before he left was The Fox and The Hound.
I loved this movie when I was little. I"m 23 now and I still watch it every year. Its such a beautiful story. Its shows that with friendship, loyalty, and love even the smallest donkey can do anything.
I had always considered this disney. I did not relize it was by the same people that did the American Tail with Fival! I love older disney. Its sad what they have become for the most part. And that videos deamed for children are overly simplified and shallow. We dont need that. I wish childrens movies where like they where when I was young. Thumbs up if you like older Disney Vs recent Disney!
@DaisyDutches hey man, u should check up on Don Bluth who was the director for this movie, land before time, all dogs go to heaven and NIMH, American tail and stuff isnt Disney though its like the old disney movies. My younger siblings never watch the Disney channel since it doesnt have any classical disney, only low quality sitcoms. Nice post, I completely agree
@killerbee2k Yup. I grew up on all of that. My 4 year old niece likes the Troll in Central Park. She loves to help me in my garden because of it and says she has a green thumb like Stanley. Quality knows no time or age. The kids from today enjoy the same things that kids from my day did.
@killerbee2k Thats why the 80s toys saw a remake. I feel blessed to have grown up where Disney put up Christian Christmas shows, not just Christmas-themed specials. All I can say, is cling to it and show your kids what you love. They might just like it too.
When fishes flew and forests walked And figs grew upon thorn, Some moment when the moon was blood Then surely I was born; With monstrous head and sickening cry And ears like errant wings, The devil's walking parody On all four-footed things. The tattered outlaw of the earth, Of ancient crooked will; Starve, scourge, deride me: I am dumb, I keep my secret still. Fools! For I also had my hour; One far fierce hour and sweet: There was a shout about my ears, And palms before my feet.
in fact as a child I never had a chance to watch this movie. I had a cassete of another Disney-movie including a trailer of this one. and I always wanted to watch it, but I couldn't find it. I'm glad to see, that people like you share this with others on youtube. Thank you so much! You fullfilled one of my childhood-wishes :)

Wow :D I really pissed off some people. No wonder. I bashed christianity. If you cared to use your brain you would realize I'm right. The christian implications ruin this story. The christian story of blood sacrifice is a sick and twisted tale.
It still is just a short glimpse. Mary never even speaks, and she's only seen in a silhuette.
And what's up with the five thumbs down on my last comment? You really think this movie is ruined by the ending? No? Then why do you give me thumbs down?
You are a true retard, arent you. The ending defines the whole story. It can't be seperated from the rest of the animation. It doesn't matter how short or long it is or how much exposure Mary gets. Those are totally irrelevant remarks.
I never knew the boy was voiced by Sean Marshall until I looked up the information. And I have to agree that Small One does look like Elliot. I love Pete's Dragon and I love this cartoon, even though it is happy and sad at the same time.
I recently discovered this beautiful story on my DVD... I loved this story.. Sean was a great actor and he did a great job.. Too bad he gave up the biz soon after Pete's Dragon.. Both things he appeared in are really good...
this is never shown at christmas out here in england on tv. it should be cos it is such a lovely cartoon and my whole family loved it the first time we saw it. it brings me too tears

This comment has received too many negative votes show
This is a very sweet animation but the christian implications kinda ruin it for me.

What the heck? You say this beautiful tear-jerker is ruined by a short glimpse of Joseph and Mary at the end? Overreaction much?
Furienna 2 years ago
It's not a short glimpse. It's the ending. Ending is the most important part of a story.
villeppi 2 years ago
It still is just a short glimpse. Mary never even speaks, and she's only seen in a silhuette.
And what's up with the five thumbs down on my last comment? You really think this movie is ruined by the ending? No? Then why do you give me thumbs down?
Furienna 2 years ago
You are a true retard, arent you. The ending defines the whole story. It can't be seperated from the rest of the animation. It doesn't matter how short or long it is or how much exposure Mary gets. Those are totally irrelevant remarks.

The point is, I don't think the religious ending ruined the entire featurette.

Both things he appeared in are really good...

small one, small one, don't look so blue
somewhere a friend, is waiting for you
someone still needs you to brighten his day
there's a place for each small one. God planned it that way
time is passing, days are view
give while you can, to one smaller than you
all things living, great and small
each brings a gift that is needed by all
small one small one, don't look so blue

Does anyone else think this song sounds a whole lot like Belle's song "Stories" from the Enchanted Christmas movie?

This was one of my favorite cartoons at Christmas when I was growing up as a kid.

The voice of the boy sounds just like Pete in Pete's Dragon.
Was it the same boy?
