looks like a really cool mix of assassigns creed for the platforming, the 2 3D castlevnias for the combat, and DmC 4 the way he uses the whip to go up. by the way 6:08 looks amazing
Off the subject. Just beat the game! Good overall but TOO MANY puzzles! No place for puzzles in an adventure game. Must be at least 20-30 if not more. Complaints about puzzles in game call KONAMI at 310-220-8330. Hopefully the next one has no puzzles or animals stealing our relics/magic.

Good review but I really did not enjoyed the game this time: clunky controls, especially during platform moments, sporadically bad angle prospective, a sense of "what should am I supposed to do/to go?" for half the game. I liked the story, tho.

From the gameplay in this video this kind of takes note from uncharted when it some from climbing because the animations are similar and you really dont know whats going to happen, but thats just from 7 minutes of gameplay in this video
Just got this, awesome so far, dont mind the GOW similarities, the titan battles are WAY too similar to Shadow of the Colussus though, they even look the same...still great game tho
It is totally wrong to say that Castlevania is a copy of GoW, because Castlevania is much older, surgio at the time of the SNES version was made for Nintendo 64, then PS, Game Boy Advanced, PS2 and now PS3.
However I have to agree with a comment, this version ran the original story, but I bought for being a fan.

Bought this game on Friday and havent got the time to play it yet, but i will. Hope it is as good as most people say. I just recently bought a Ps3 slim together with God of war 3 and hope that this game will satisfy as my second pick. it's also good to know that Mercury Steam has released a patch that deals with the Ps3 savefile issue. I played the demo and the environments, enemies and the general design of the game in terms of the hack and slash elements reminded me a lot of the Lord of the Rings games for the PS2/Xbox/GC so I know I'm going to love Lords of Shadow! Can't wait :-)
This game was easy, I don't know what you're all talking about. Took about 20 hours or so. Was an AWESOME game, the levels with the 3 main character bosses were epic with the scenary.
Given some of the changes that the series has undergone over the years, I really don't understand the gripes about this game doing its own thing. Thanks for giving it a fair review. I was a bit disappointed in the ending (in terms of execution, not in terms of content), but the trip toward achieving that ending was a blast.

I am 35 and grew up playing all the old Castlevania games. I was excited when this came out and I have to say I am crazy about thout this game. In the true spirit of the Belmonts this game is a real treat. I was nervous at first because the first 2 hours are very dull. But then the game picks up very quickly and you evolve your powers. I am a chapter away from the final chapter and am so excited to play again. This is my favorite Castlevania at the moment next to Super Castlevania.
Very good review. And I think this game is awesome. There are very few button mashing and more combo based. If someone enjoyed Ninja Gaiden/Sigma I and II (2 of the hardest games I ever played), he/she will enjoy this game very much as well.
There's nothing wrong with the game being called a clone. That just means that the basic premise is not wholy original, it does nothing to impugn the value of the game.
This game is so damn frustrating. I like it don't get me wrong but i kind of can't wait to beat it because it is frustrating the hell out of me and stressing me out. I like the fighting but i hate some of the control layouts. For instance I'm so used to using the left stick for dodging that I don't get why this game has you dodging with the same stick that you use to move around. Especially since you don't use the left stick for anything in this game anyways, i just think its bad config.
@TheC0unt5 Mapping the dodge mechanic to the right stick only makes sense to you because God of War has made you accustomed to it, but really, if anything, THAT is bad config. Using the right stick to dodge forces you to remove your thumb from the face buttons. This means you can't effectively chain attacks and dodges; you're constantly shifting the operative thumb. Lords of Shadow by passes this by using a trigger to dodge. It's actually more intuitive, really.
@tvandlust actually I've never played a God of war game so no i was not accustomed to it because of that game. It just would of made more sense to me and I would of found it much better, they should of at least given you the option of switching since the left stick is not really used for anything except holding it down to gain magic.
@tvandlust About the 360 version there are some points that the framerate drops like in minute 4 of your review. I mean that in fights there are never framerate issues. Only in some points that the games does alil bit show off of the visuals. By the way i never knew xbox 360 could handle such good graphics. They are really stunning. Congrats on your review, i will follow your videos, they seem... honest somehow
@TheC0unt5 I never played this game but if you look back at older titles (the originals) Castlevania has a long history of annoying controls and of being frustrating. I guess it's like their thing.
@stangboy88 rygar for the PS2 had the same type of combat with a flail like weapon, you gained skills, it was level based, etc. like he said, there were games "like" god of war before god of war that are basically the same thing as god of war and yet they came before god of war. indeed!
@foofighter244476 Yeah, apparently a handful of folks are running into corrupted save file issues with the PS3 version. I haven't run into the problem, thankfully. My understanding is Konami is releasing a patch soon.
In my opinion, the controls in the Xbox 360 demo were poor b/c they seemed very imprecise. I also found the graphics in the Xbox 360 demo to be poor b/c, in my opinion, framerate stability and 'eye candy' go hand-in-hand, and the framerate was way too 'jumpy' for my liking.
While I am guilty for doing a review just there on this and referring to words clone and God of War, I don't do them on an unfair way as I too enjoyed the hell out of this game and is one of my favourites of this year. I enjoyed it more than God of War III but maybe not the first two. I love the Castlevania series and to see a great 3D game in the series (although I don't really have much problems with the ones I've played). Favourite one is still Super Castlevania IV.
This game is better than DEVIL MAY CRY and GOD OF WAR III. Ignore the fanboys. I beat all three. And i have no alliance to any system, developer, or publisher. The word RIP OFF or CLONE is used too often and unfairly. Everyone wants to be a critic. There are little true gamers left.
It doesn't matter who "ripped off" who, as I'm sure it has to be very difficult to come up with a completely new game concept these days. All that matters is that the game is fun :)

It is totally wrong to say that Castlevania is a copy of GoW, because Castlevania is much older, surgio at the time of the SNES version was made for Nintendo 64, then PS, Game Boy Advanced, PS2 and now PS3.

The game is an audiovisual treat, but I just couldn't easily get into yet another hack and slash games. It's not Castlevania's fault though.

It doesn't matter who "ripped off" who, as I'm sure it has to be very difficult to come up with a completely new game concept these days. All that matters is that the game is fun :)
