  • Was this in missouri???

  • what's the name of that song at the beginning?

  • I wonder where that diesel horn was coming from?

  • @amtraklover The diesel train was fallowing 1225 so it can pull the train back to the steam railroading instatute.

  • This is awesome, with the 2 whistles. Each one has a different sound.

  • if the 611 and 4501 would be restored my life would be perfect!!!!!!!!! but hearig 611's whistle will hold me over lol

  • god bless the people who run steam engines in the diesel era the steam engine are the king of kings on the rails then and now they will be always the king on the rail in the years to come

  • when they took the 611 and her sisters from the excursion not only we lost a great legend on the rails we lost a great friend that we saw every year from 1982 till 1994 i hope one day they get the 611 and 1218 and the steam fleet back up and running for one more time to hear there whistle and smokestack going down the mainline

  • they nead to pollish the bell it is sooty

  • well aaron, it shows 1225's "workhorse look" so i say DONNT TOUCH IT!!!

  • actualy it shows hey what am i doing with another loco's whistle?

  • shut up....611's whistle is better than any whistle this engine has ever posessed....you can cry if you don't think so.

  • Actualy nothing is better than her original whistle. 765's whistle beats 1225's as well. None fit these berks better than their own whistles! Just ask those who work on her and they'll agree.

  • 611's whistle beats any whistle ever made, 765's 1225's 779's you name it, it's below 611'a on the list.

  • well then u lover, keep 611 on 611!! They dnt belong on a berk anyways!

  • yeah, I guess you're right.....611's whistle is too good for the berks...they still have to earn it.

  • thats a normal thing for a steam locomotiuve who has been working a train all day.

  • note that little shrilness in the whistle though thats due o the super heated steam for 611's hankok 3 chime is mounted on the smokebox were the superheater headers is.

also note 1225's real whistle (the 2nd whistle) is a nathen 6 chime such as on the nkp berks and other berks made by lima.

note it was FREEZING cold and if you look at last months issue of trains magazine, ITS NOT EASY TO DO THIS.

btw nice roaring runby at 2:45 and 4:57

    and nice intro music aswelll

  • Even though the 611 doesn't run anymore, it sure is nice to know that it's whistle is still being heard.

  • i would like to just ssay me and my son love the vid! I never knew that there was a steam train in michigan! This is just awsome!

  • Hey thanks yeah its HQ is in Owosso MI

  • man the engineer letting people no that the 1225 is in town with 611 whistle

  • i wish the 611 was back running again i have heard lots of time of people saying they miss the 611 running on the tracks they are not the only ones miss the 611 running i only got to see her 4 times one in 1993 and 3 in 1994

  • If Norfolk Southern would allow steam excursions, 611 and 1218 COULD run again. The whole reason why both N&W steamers got put back in a museum is because Norfolk Southern wont allow steam excursions anymore. Thats what Ive heard.

  • That is correct NS ended there steam program the only reason they let 4449 use there tracks to get to Michigan for steam fest is because it was an Amtrak train. they still restricted them to 40 MPH on there tracks

  • NS let the 4449 run on their tracks? Didnt know that, thanks for telling that.

  • @traintownofcowee You are correct about 611 and 1218. 611 is more likely to run then 1218 because it has all of its parts. 1218 was in the middle of a rebuild when she was shut down, and it is mostly a hollow shell that would take up to 1 million dollars to restore. 611 would take about half of that amount.

  • First off nice cacth!! Also, may I ask where the footage at the beginning with the cannon is from? Its so awesome!

  • I cant remember where I found I think I saw it on you tube so I started to use it as the opener for my videos.. it appears on a few of them. the gun footage is from WWII

  • wow that whistle of that J Class sounds good on the 1225

  • 611's whistle was on graham county shay 1925 once before her rertirement

  • Oh yes. I got to hear the whistle while it was on the Shay!

  • Good video! It's great to hear the 611's whistle again.

  • Thanks Yeah it was I wish they would un moth ball the locomotive and put it back in action

  • can 611 and 1225 doublehead sometime in the future?

  • I dont think you will ever see 611 under her own power ever again its a museum piece now and will prob remain that way

  • 611 is retired and has a 99.99% chance of NOT coming back. and this IS 611's Whistle. I received Confirmation of that myself, and being an active volunteer on the Mechanical end of the engine crew, I'm pretty sure that the person that told me this is right

  • 611's orginal whistle i'm guessing

  • Well, at least 611 is in good mechanical shape.

  • yah I saw 611 last year its a damn shame to see such a fine engine stuffed and mounted

  • Not true, there is a rumor started by NS themselves saying that #611 is a prime candidate for inspection trains.

  • It is just that a Rumor. Many railroaders if they havn't heard a good rumor in a while start one. when something offical is out there I'll belive it.

  • Now that 611--- That's a whistle. Hear the difference!

  • N&W 615 and PM 1225 whistles on the same 2-8-4.

  • its N&W J class 611 whistle And yea they had both Whistles on it thought it was cool

  • how could it be 611 if its whistle doesn't sound like a g note steamboat

  • From what I was told from the crew is that the owner of 611 is active with the steam railroading instatute who owns and operates 1225 and he loaned the whistle to them foe a few months.

  • but how that whistle is NOT (im not trying to be rude) 611's regular steamboat whistle

  • I have no clue. Im chasing 1225 on the 17th and the 18th maybe ill be able to get some answers for ya and get to the bottom of this

  • if they put 611's whistle on strasburg's 0-6-0 31, that would be totally awesome.

  • Don't let the EPA catch 'wind' of this one

  • Wow that thing looks like a moving volcanic eruption!

  • Yea the engine really puts out the smoke

  • Awesome steam train,Great video.!!!!

  • Great Video, but the debut of the whistle, which is on loan from the 611 was in October on the timberliner.

  • Oh ok the guy I talked to when they were boarding told me that they had just put it on my bad

  • Were was that at?

  • in Owossow Michigan is east of Saint Johns

  • woops miss spell there its in owosso Michigan
