@kayshubbyjim The shrimpping starts in the late winter thru spring here in central Florida. If you shrimp in the Jacksonville area it starts around July through October. We are getting ready for our season and will do a better video of the whole process from set up to dipping... Thanks for watching and good luck!
@Kaizen454 It is more that the lights are in the path of the shrimp as they pass by. The fish that are attracted to the light will push the shrimp up to the top alot of times. I will try and have a better video this year and show a bit more how we do it and show some shrimp being dipped
@befrankpls We were thinking the same thing..... This next season we are going to show the whole process from the lights and parking to actual dipping of the shrimp.....
That's a lot of shrimp, my family loves shrimp! But the jumbo shrimp we buy from the store is microscopic compared to shrimp in Florida. You are lucky!
hahaha... Well there is about 200lbs of shrimp in the freezer. And yes! they have cholesterol it is the HDH which isn't bad for you...remember there is no trans fats in Shrimp
Are those lights IN the water, or just shined from the boat? I'm trying to find a good place in Panama City Beach area to go start doing this. Any advice? If the lights are in the water, where would I get that type of light?
Yes the lights are in the water. I use normal 100 watt light bulbs and put them in a construction socket( all rubber and a. I seal the bulbs with marine caulk...put a chunk of lead and throw them over. You can use a battery or like me a generator. We shtimp in 15 foot of water and I set the bulbs about 3 foot off the bottom. It really draws in the fish as well. I don't know much about the shrimping over your way but this is how we do it here
Do the shrimp come to the top where you dip them out? I'm thinking the bay underneath the city bridge might be a good place to try... the old bridge is still down there, so there are places to kind of "hide out". It's about 15 feet too I think. It's fairly grassy out there. I'll have to see about rigging up some lights like that. I'm determined.
The shrimp willl pass over the lights...sometimes right on the top but mosyly a foot or two down..It;s a blast when they are really running! Good Luck and catch a bunch
How I wish that I took a video of that 2 nights whereas my husband and I went out to the river and you'll see shrimp everywhere around our boat. That was an unforgettable experience for me. Never been shrimping or fishing before but now I love it, its fun and very relaxing though. Anyway, thanks po sa nice comment nyo sa video na ito. Lets see if how the shrimp run again this year!!!!!
It's nice to open the freezer and see all those shrimp but of course family members will come over and "borrow" some....lol... Love to Crapie fish as well
Oh yes!!!! I was there saturday night drum fishing, I did see a lot of shrimp on top still but didn't bring my dip net or lights and was kickin myself for it. A friend went the next night and didn't see any shrimp, but that's shrimping for yea. Hey I sent you a personal message, did you get it? TTYL, Chris
Lol! ...I have a sister there in UK and I even wanted to send fresh shrimp to them but still don't know if how to do it.. But they have a plan to visit me here in Fl. so I will just wait for them..
aside from crabs, shrimps are my favorite. I cook camaron, sinigang, and with vegestables with it. here in UK, we can just find the fresh in wet market. yummmy!
Yup, I'm sure that there's always fresh seafoods anywhere, the only concern is that sometimes they are more expensive compare to some other places or sometimes it's free just like here in our place in Florida because we catch them by ourselves. How I wish that you're close and I can give you some hehe!!!
yeah lol my dad is a shrimper lol he drives the transport truck that hauls live shrimp from point a to point b. he told me there 4 bucks a dozen now. used to be like 150 a dozen 12 years ago. i have been trying to figure out how to ship them live up here in minnesota. they would be great fixh tank pets and food and bait lol. how do you bring them up out of the water?
Shrimp are getting very expensive so I am glad that we are able to catch them fresh. I wanted to take some video of us catching but just kept forgetting to bring the camera. As for how they are caught? We put lights in the water and as they swim by we "dip" them using a large dip net. Maybe next seasonI will remember to bring the camera :)
put dry ice in cooler line the dry ice all over the sides then put them in the cooler. then you can box them up in cardboard box and ship. i do not know how to get by the authorities though that is the hard part.
Thanks for the suggestion, wife really wanted to ship some to her sister in UK but according to them are not sure if its allowed to mailed off fresh and it might be confiscated by the authorities.
wow i have never seen such big shrimp in my life, amazing catch !
