  • I wish you play like this more often !

  • FUCK... you are too God DAMN good.

  • This reminds me of Guthrie's Erotic Cakes track! (at least the main riff)

  • Parabéns, vc toca muito!!!

  • Guthrie whoooooo ?

  • Just watch from 1:10 and onwards... Over, And over, And over again.

  • That was so cool how he took the black plastic piece of his whammy bar off mid song and through it on the floor!

  • 0:59 FUCK OFF!!!

  • HAHAHA LOL.... did anyone else notice at 0:58 that he sneakily took the little cover off his whammy bar lulz!?!?

  • My inspiration has been renewed!

  • bertobegood2 WTF is an 'erotic cake'?

    Lol

1:38 is the icing on the cake for me though.....

  • @maxtheaxe33 uhhh.. how can you know alex hutchings and not know guthrie govan? -.-

  • bertobegood2 WTF is an 'erotic cake'?

    Lal

  • Didn't think such harmonics were possible through a Fender amp. 0:48.

  • Didn't think such harmonics were possible on a Fender amp. 0:58.

  • 0:58 "Fuck protection!"

  • Anyone else notice him whip off the plastic bit on the end of the trem arm at 0:58?!

  • @drdamski Yeah, what a pro!

  • 0:58

    Why?

  • Definitely one of the greatest guitarist

  • that that was just sickk such control and power.. i respect this guy

  • It doesn't get any sicker then this guy!!! Absolute monster!!!

  • Every time, when i watch this improvisation i feel a vertigo!

  • and who said jack black can't shred on the guitar??

  • Alex is up there with Guthrie in terms of beautiful solos and technique. I'd like to see what Guthrie would do with Alex's backing tracks.

  • Ridiculous ahah! =D

  • I hate his face.

  • so...EFFORTLESS!

  • Alex Hutchings....you are amazing.

  • His sound is a bit like john petrucci!

  • @peten01v and a bit like marty friedman for the arpeggios

  • great!!!

  • Wow, what fantastic tone!

  • lol at 0:59, alex thinks "the fuck you say black whammy grip?"

  • @MrPintGlass Great comment ahahaha

  • would you like to take a closer inspection of your guitar?

  • Comment removed

  • i mean, a boss me 25 or a line 6 floor pod plus??

  • @bonz0416 Don't know if you've already made your purchase, but personally, I think the Line 6 amp models and stuff are far superior to the Boss ones, but the Boss pedals generally have the slight edge on the effects side of things! Hope this helps

  • hello! i am about to buy a guitar processor, and im thinking to get this or a line 6 floor pod plus coz they are in the same price.. but i have no idea which to choose.. to all those guitar pro's, can u please suggest me? thankss!!

  • Let's get Holdsworth to combine some of his licks over a Bach fugue or prelude!

  • FANTASTIC WORK, ALEX!!!!

  • is it me or does he not look like jack black?

  • fuck me!!! THATS SAVAGE!!

  • 0:56, show off :P

    Legendary player though, England ftw

  • That one's my favorite!!! Such energy and power!

  • Hey,

is all of that distortion coming from that amp?

  • ooOoO i like the tone in this video. very nice bite and clarity w the fatness that doesnt make it muddy! nice!

  • i prefer zak wylde :D

  • you have 2 dislikes in your ratings!!! I think those two deserve a puplic lynching

  • Totally admire the finger work & phrasing fluency etc, but after 5 minutes of this stuff I long for some solid composition just IMHO

This is more finger music than head music.

Hutchins is simply one of the best finger musicians in the world.

  • @pobinr then you are not using your imagination my friend all of this is an improvisation with such powerful melodic ideas that you apparently not seeing but then again we all have tastes and listen to it regularly and let my imagination flow..solid compositions may give you more melodic ideas..but if an improvisation can reach THIS level.(which surpass MANY written music out there)...of melodic content..then its simply OUTSTANDING...i suggest you listen to feeling fine..you may change your mind

  • @arcainjust As a Bach fanatic I can tell you the music here is not on a solid compositional basis. If you want to hear melodic improvisations then listen to Bach Preludes which are as if Bach improvised them, then wrote them down. They have an unsurpassed degree of continuity with every moment to leading logically from the moment before to the moment after.

Anyway no one compares to Bach. He's head & shoulders over even the great composers so not fair really to compare him to A Hutchinson.

  • @pobinr a person who compares classical with jazz/fusion fails to understand music is a form of expression i hope you get out of your Bach hut to see melody's nature and expand your melodic mind *Bach is a great artist who's musical influence will continue that is a fact*..BUT..there was no point in talking to you to begin with..because you do not wish to learn..you just wish to prove your self righteousness..im sorry for trying to open your closed mind and this conversation is over..peace

  • @arcainjust "I do not wish to learn" - I was out of my Bach hut 32 years ago when I 1st started listening to Allan Holdsworth & Brand X.

Or in fact 37 years ago listening to Hendrix, Cream, Led Zep, Yes, Genesis & King Crimson. All those bands composed not just technoflash jam over simple chord changes. U don't know anything about me or music. As regards the conversation being over. It never really started.I hope one day when you mature you will begin to 'LEARN' of the enormity of Bach's music.

  • @pobinr Bach, more astonishingly, actually improvised most of the fugues. Fugue was a time filler during idle periods in mass. He was not the only one. Most organists then and even now are required to be able to do this. However its totally incomparable to rock fusion. If you were listening closely to your Brand X, they were using exactly the same modal devices and turn-arounds as this guy. Different courses for different courses :=D

  • @arcainjust Feeling fine is a Carlton type bluesy very soulful track. Great feeling. Couldn't be played better, but that isn't melody. A melody is something that lodges in the mind & screams out to be hummed or whistled.

  • F*ck this is amazing!!!!

  • What happened @59sec?

Being a bit trem happy on this new axe, aren't we, mister hutchings ;)?

  • WOW sounds like Petrucci, licks from --metropolis??? =] very great!!!!!! hands UP!!!

  • Mad skillz !

  • Anyone know what gauge strings Alex plays with?

  • que barbaro felicidades, saludos desde acapulco, gro. mex

  • I like this one the best, cause it has more melody... you have some of the smoothest picking on the web, great job

  • A can hear lots of petruccis influence here.. does somebody agrees with me?

  • @alejandrocano1992

Yes I certainly agree with that. This particular video is VERY Petrucci styled.

  • is it me or the guitar is like "string-less" :)

now thats happens when unbeatable technique and feelings marry :)

seeing these vidz make me wanna grab my guitar and never let go!

  • 0:59 ...LOL

  • Why does he throw away that whammy bar black cap at 0:59 ??? I mean its his guitar , why did he put it on in the first place .

  • @hldemi Pulling up on the bar and letting it go creates a funny wobbly sounding effect. Steve Vai does the same thing on his Floyds Rose bars.

  • @toomanygittars Whats the connection between my question and your answer ? I didnt ask why he uses floyd rose I asked why he throw away black cap that was on top of whammy bar .

  • @hldemi

As we were recording and filming this take, the cap had come loose and was about to fall off so Alex just pulled it off and chucked it away so it wouldn't distract him. Trying to find the bloody thing afterwards is another story!

  • @bluesjamtracks Ahahahahaha , thanks . After I saw that I imagined trying to find it afterwards . Though It kinda looks better without it IMO .

  • @hldemi There is NO connection, as I obviously completely misunderstood your initial question! Sorry about that! Now I discovered what you meant! :-)

  • @toomanygittars No problem , Your intentions were good . Maybe someone even learned something from your answer .

  • look 0:47 - 0:48, wow...

  • I really think that these guitar players(bluesjamtracks) have to stick to an accessible harmony structure ,

For example he has to stick to a shred approach more than a jazzy approach but he is a very good jazz player and composer .

This is a setting to show off your chops but i don't mind at all because it fits the genre .

  • wonderful...I bow down !

  • form 1:00 to 1:04 Petrucci' style!

    Alex you are simply great...

  • I see what you mean, sounds very similar to the ending solo in 'Take the Time' by Dream Theater.

Obviously this was unintentional, Alex is amazing!

  • hahaha Absolutely amazing! love this guy!

0.59 see that he takes the black plastic off the end of the whammy bar :P

  • anyone else think of erotic cakes during the first few seconds of the song?

  • YES guthrie definatley made the backing track with him.

  • first thought that popped up ;)

  • @bertobgood2 dont think so

  • @bertobgood2 yes!

  • @bertobgood2 Yes!

  • @bertobgood2 Not only that, but there's a lick in there at :20 that sounds like a direct pickup from GG. I do really like Alex, though. I just found out about him today.

  • @bertobgood2 Not only that, but there's a lick in there at :20 that sounds like a direct pickup from GG. I do really like Alex, though. I just found out about him today. Tasty player.

  • @sazeracJeff Do you mean the Larry Carlton line that Greg Howe passed on to GG and AH??

  • @bertobgood2 yea i think the same

  • @bertobgood2 i tought the same thing.. btw Alex has an amazing technique and feeling

  • @bertobgood2 si

  • @bertobgood2 erotic cakes thought of march of the machines lol ;D

  • This is genius. Perfect name and playing, it completely fits the song.

Also: 1:35 and 1:53...check those bends.

  • What Fender amp is that? Anybody know...

  • Princeton Reverb I think.

Although the red light is on, I don't think it's being mic'ed.

I don't think those amps would sound like that, although I have heard some great players say those little vintage fenders are a secret weapon for heavily distorted tones.

  • It's mic'ed up in another room through an extension speaker cab. A cornford 1 X 12 with a vintage 30. A fantastic amp. 1966 original!

  • @bluesjamtracks

Is that the only amp being recorded? The Fender? Wow

  • LOL, at :59 he flicked off the tip of his tremelo bar. Great to see a musician really get into what he is playing. So much feel and emotion. His playing is definately some of the best out there right now imoa.

  • Alex is a great guitarist & excellent musician. If u really listen to his compos & improvs u'll hear complex ideas, like the chord changes & wide vocabulary of phrasing that u may not understand the first time.

All music is real music, it's just a matter preference, the more u know & the better u understand it, the more u appreciate it. And that's why ur guitar hero's guitar hero is Allan Holdsworth.

Ted Greene once mentioned at a clinic,

"If u don't understand it, that doesn't that it's bad".

  • BLA BLA BLA DIS MUZIK IS GAY! DIS GUITAR PLAYA IS 200 TIMES BETTER DAN ME IN ALL MY YEARZ N TEARZ OF PRACTIZE AND IT PAINS ME SO HORRIBLY TO SEE SUCH A DISPLAY OF FUCKING INCREDIBLE GUITAR PLAYING THAT I THINK ILL WRITE A COMMENT SAYING HOW BAD HIS MUSIC IS AND DAT HIS PLAYING IS ALL ABOUT TECHNIQUE WIF NO MUZICALITI IN IT WAT SO EVA WHILE I CRY MYSELF TO SLEEP EVERY NIGHT WISHING I WAS 1/10TH AS GOOD A PLAYER AS ALEX HUTCHINGS IS.

Say what you want but you cannot deny these simple facts. <3

  • hehe +1 ;)

  • The starting lick is awesome

  • Can someone explain why he takes of the tip of his whammy bar at 0:58? It makes no sense!

  • i think he was gonna do a whammy flutter but ended up just flicking the tip off his bar thats all

  • Comment removed

  • personally, i think guthrie is better in this sort of jam..

alex's best ability is in his jazzy tone and flamengo..(just search alex plays flamengo..he's so amazing too..)

  • Comment removed

  • I always get impressed right from the start when I see this guy but then it all fades away into boredom because...well, because it goes nowhere, I mean, after the initial jaw dropping demonstration of technique all we are left with is an endless amount of meaningless phrases that seem to be there only to show off technique rather than to make enjoyable music. I know you kids are gonna thumb me down but can anyone remember how this piece of "music" sounds only 5 seconds after it's finished?

  • No Guthrie Govan either, too much legato and I'd expect higher standards of cleanliness from someone coming from this brand. As well,Ritchie Kotzen called and would like a few of his licks back.

  • I know what you mean. He doesn't seem to have any direction, it's just lick after lick with no particular emphasis on any part except the one melodic part in the beginning.

  • exactly!

Many kids who barely learned to wipe their asses clean without their mom's help and just picked up a guitar get impressed with such display of technique and they get all defensive when someone criticizes it but music isn't just technique or the display of it. Anyone can get in their room and practice for hours and be able to play really fast but it takes real music talent to actually use that technique to make real music, something I'm afraid this guy here hasn't in him...

  • come on that isn't exactly fair. i reckon this isn't his best JAM by far, doesn't seem to suit him, he's more jazz, fusion ambient, he's done some great jams, hopefully he'll bring out an album and show us all what he can do, musicially as well as technically. i totally understand your point of view though.

Keef is one of the most (technically) average guitarists I've ever heard, but also one of the richest lol

  • i disagree with you 100%. you are judging his playing based on 2 minutes of a video. Wait until he releases an album and then you can really "State your opinion".

  • sure, this is a short video to be used as a base for an opinion but that is not the only video I've seen of him, I've seen most of them (there are dozens on bluesjamtracks...) and I even said on my first comment "I always get impressed everytime I see..."

And many of his videos here are from his compositions that will(or already does) feature in his first album.

And to me it is all very impressive for about ten seconds, after that I get bored with his playing because it says very little...

  • There is no accounting for taste. I personally think that Alex, Guthrie, Gottardo, etc. are the next generation of guitarists that will take us into a new era, i find it really hard to critique their art when it is simply so much better than the trash that is on T.V. and popular these days. I wish them infinite success as id like to hear from them for a looooong time.

  • The 3 thumbs down you got for this statement only proves your statement further. I agree with you. This guy seems like he has the potential, but has yet to actually learn how to use his technique tastefully. +1 for you, good sir.

  • lol, thanks. I'm not that old thou (30yo).

I just said what I think, that is by no means some sort of fact.

To me music should say something, have a message. And that is the real hard part. How do you transmit a message without words?

I went to the G.I.T. in L.A, back in the 90s when it was still a great school and the best teachers there, even the fusion guys, always said it was harder to write a good 3-chords beautiful song then to play a hundred arpeggios in one second... Makes sense to me

  • My response is that you don't like this genre of music, and that's all.

  • Check out "Feeling Fine" by him!

  • Maybe you should be listening to ac/dc so you don't get so put off by this "boring" display of world class talent. Fusion isn't supposed to be "catchy".

It's a display of "jaw dropping" technique and superhuman memory on the part of the player.

It's "musician's music", which is why you don't see it on MTV.

  • I'm sorry you can't here it as music. And btw, don't state your opinions as facts.

  • what a moronic thing to say "don't state your opinion as a fact...", specially coming from a teenager who uses a screen name "pettrucciisgod" - isn't that also stating your opinion as a fact? Change you screen name to "in-my-opinion-pettruci-is-god" and maybe next time I express my opinion in an open forum I'll start with "in my opinion", or perhaps you can just learn that others may have an opinion that differs from your and they are free to express it without having to excuse themselves to you

  • @tommytalks77 How do you not feel the emotion in this? That's a serious question. This man has got SO much of it. Summer of Love. That is my answer to your statement.

  • i get what u mean.. i use to be like that too..

but ur ear changes after a while and if your serious musician, your ear will no doubt change. for me and a lot of other serious musicians, u start listening to different more "exotic" styles of music..guthrie is my favorite, but alex is gud gtar plyer 2

honestly tho its something u have to learn for urself i coudnl't explain it to u.. but i hear alexs phrasing perfectly.. i can hear where hes comin from, i understand it.

    ur ear changes over time

  • Superior control and technique.

  • 0:59 interesting move, whammy bar tip flew off lol

  • Absolutely delicious!

  • Sweet!

  • Great! Thank you Bluesjamtrack!
